Worked for physician - 3 years
MCAT: 31
GPA: 3.38, strong upward trend (1st year: 1.5, last 60 hours: >3.8)

I'm sorry to hear that.. it seems to me that your GPA and MCAT may be a bit lower than what school expects, though I don't really know what the school wants. Don't give up now though, because you have more chances of applying again and retaking MCAT again to make your portfolio better. I took MCAT 4 times and applied to schools 3 times to finally get into some med schools. What I also have been noticing is that it seems like many schools look for applicants with one above average score and one at average score (i.e. MCAT and GPA), so if this year doesn't pan out for you, consider taking MCAT again and make sure to raise that score sky high. Also, don't dismiss the fact that the school may just want to "hold" you until your final grades from your school are in.

Question for any of the current students out there:

If we were accepted, and passed the physical with no waiver or further testing needed, how long until our acceptances change from conditional to unconditional?

I've had the results of my physical for over a month, so now I'm just waiting on the background check? Is that right?

I'm wondering the same thing. I just got my qualified letter from DoDMERB 😀

I interviewed 9/22. Hold letter dated 10/20. 🙁

My scores were lower than average so I guess I'm not surprised. I just thought I had a good chance since I had such an early interview.

What should I do now?

I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully since its still early you might hear good news still. Good luck! :xf:

Ok, so I just got another letter from Dr. Calloway, dated the 24th, which says:

"BY now you have received my letter of conditional acceptance for the 2012 First-Year Class. I am personally very pleased that we are able to offer you a place at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine of USUHS.

You will take your place as a member of the new incoming class along with many other well-qualified class members. Your experiences during the next four years will prepare you will both as a physician and a medical officer.

I believe that you will achieve your full potential....."

and then some contact information.

What is this? Did anyone else get one? Is this an unconditional acceptance?

No, that is not unconditional acceptance. I got mine about 3 weeks to a month later I got my conditional acceptance letter as they need some time to process your DoDMERB paperwork and such. That letter is just a courtesy letter from Dr. Calloway saying congrats again on your acceptance 🙂

haha yeah, I got that the same day I received my other stuff, but hers was dated an entire week after the packet (idk why the packet took so long!). A nice personal touch I think 🙂

Ugh, I have to get two remedials. One should be pretty easy, but the other is to provide medical records of my hospital stay from when I was in first grade 😱 Will they even exist anymore? haha. I need to ask my parents which hospital I was even at...

this could be interesting! here's hoping for the best :xf:

The two-week deadline for my acceptance forms is today, but the postal service delivery confirmation system doesn't have my package's status anymore! I sent the forms a week ago today so they should be there by now :xf: Hopefully they'll be a little lenient with the deadline this early in the process...

My remedial test results just got sent to DoDMERB yesterday. My fingers are crossed for both of us! Good luck finding your records! I'm sure everything will work out in the end.

My remedial took about 7 to 10 days. Then again, I live right down the road from the air force academy, which is where the dodmerbs are processed, so the mail time is like 1/2 day each way 🙂

the school sends out rejection/interview invites in the mail right?

Let's see if this LOI thing works. I sent mine in last week. Come on, take me off HOLD.

So does anybody know when the next set of calls is going out? Thought it was supposed to be today

Ah! I missed a call from Dr. Calloway around 6:30pm... she said she would try again later tonight but no such luck... maybe I'll get a wake-up call...

Got the phone call and message close to 6:30 too but it was from a restricted number so I couldn't call back. Hope that means good news. Interviewed 9/29

Same. She called again this morning (~9am) but I missed the call again!! Ugh. I am keeping the sound on my phone throughout the day because I don't want to miss her a third time.

I also interviewed 9/29.

congrats! thanks everyone for the support!!

I'm pretty sure I am going to fail... I have a pending knee surgery (in December) so I don't think that one will sneak by..

Congrats citrusguy and LadyRugger! Welcome to the Navy! See you at OIS this summer!

And don't worry about passing the physical... I had to get a remedial spirometry test, and they're working on a waiver for my eyesight, but in the end it should work out for all of us. After you get all the tests done, waiting for the military to process the results and make up their minds is the hardest part. It's important to remember that they want us to come just as much as we want to go there. Good luck with everything!

Got the call this morning too after missing the call yesterday! Yea Navy 2016!

Congrats to those making it. I've been stalking these forums for about 2 years now, also wishing to attend USU. Do you guys think you can post up your stats maybe see I can get a general idea of the acceptances going on during this cycle.

Ah congrats! Hoping for mine soon!

Is there any other paperwork you had to fill out And send back?

Nope. I had already sent in the form with the conditional acceptance. There was an additional letter saying I still hadn't gotten my transcript in, but that they would send me a green postcard when it does.

Congrats on those who got accepted! I will see you folks hopefully next year. The thing about the transcript is that you gotta check and make sure the school has gotten the transcript even though your transcript services say they have sent it (as USUHS is not listed correctly in most of the transcript services). I had to re-send mine a few times before the school got it in their mail.

conditional acceptance in the mail today dated 11/2

do we also turn in the transcript form too? and if we're in graduate school now, we wait until we're done with our program before sending our transcript right?

sorry just wanted to make sure i read it correctly!

edit: btw does anyone know where i can find a copy of the height weight requirements for USUHS? i'm looking at a bunch of sites and they're all saying sort of different things

Congrats on the acceptance!

I believe you just check the box indicating you are still in school.

Check out this link http://www.usuhs.mil/adm/suppinstr.html Then scroll down to #6 School of Medicine Excerpt. The height and weight guidelines should be in that document.

Does anybody know when second look day will be?!?! I am getting so excited already!

the military doesnt have a weight requirement....They have a body fat requirement. Depending on the service and your age. For example a 29 year old going into the air force must be 20% or below body fat to be commissioned.

What does this mean? Well all the info for finding out body fat requirements, how to measure, and how to compute is online. You will have to complete and submit a DA 5500 for male or DA 5501 for female (these are body fat worksheets). Go buy a measuring tape and compute your body fat! if you have questions pm me. I just got mine done and I work air force medical so I am familiar with body fat measuring (since I have been measured for the past 10 years).

Otherwise, good luck and I recommend really hitting up the cardio, weights, and diet because the last thing you want to worry about during medical school is passing PT or body fat measurements. Shoot for a body fat of around 10-15%

Has anyone heard if any of the services are getting close to filling up? I've heard Navy usually starts to fill up towards nov-dec

Hey guys, I received my unconditional acceptance to the Navy last weekend and I've created a group on Facebook for everyone joining me in the Class of 2016. Just search "USUHS Class of 2016," request to join the group and I'll add you.

To those of you still waiting on interviews, decisions, etc., hang in there and good luck!

Dale
