Well, the site still states:

"Currently we are accepting applicants from the "Upper Third" of our Alternate List. Since acceptances from the Alternate List are in response to withdrawals by currently accepted applicants, we cannot predict if or when the next Alternate will be accepted. "

Hopefully, they will be moving to the Middle Third within the next few days.

Could someone from each tier give their GPA/MCAT? I'm a future applicant being neurotic! Good luck to all of you guys.

Love the meme, gatorade484! haha I think that our movement day will be next week. At least, I HOPE!!!!

And ahens23, stats aren't as big of a deal as you would think...at least not after interviews. But my GPA was and is a 4.0. MCAT of 29. There were people last year that were accepted with a 24. Obviously, the better the stats, the better the chance of acceptance, but they like well-rounded individuals, like all med schools. GOOD LUCK!

ahens23 note the bold part. Before that it is nothing but stats. Wanderlust12 is a very strong candidate with GPA of 4 but if you don't have good stats these schools wont talk to you.

well at the time of the interview invite I had a 3.1 sgpa and 3.4 overall with a 34 mcat. if one is weak then your GPA/MCAT needs to compensate for the other. then again I went completely overboard with essay questions. everything was only a few characters under the limit and I rewrote all the activity descriptions differently on the secondary. so I basically made sure my gpa was the only thing that could possibly hold me back. that was good enough for an interview invite and then mid tier waitlist lol.
 
There seems to be very little correlation between gpa/mcat/future performance in med school and what tier of the waitlist you are put on. I'm about to be a second year at UAB, and I know people in my class with 36+ MCAT's who were on the middle tier last year. For what it's worth, I was on the top third and my gpa was 3.5 and MCAT 35.

True but BS section has the highest correlation to Step I scores followed by PS. verbal is so loosely correlated that it has no significance. I don't have data on GPA.

In my class, the original offers of admission consisted of over 60% females. The wait list was majority male. As the wait list moved, the class actually became slightly over 50% male. This practice ensures that the class is roughly equally female and male.
Since the admissions council bases its decisions on many different things, such as described above, you will have people on the wait list who do very well in medical school.
According to the school (and other places), MCAT scores are somewhat correlated to step 1 scores. Probably more relevant is where you rank after the first two years...this is more of an indirect effect because the people who know the material get good grades.
 
is uab still accepting upper tier people? I hadnt heard anything from anyone else since last week so I assumed they have finished the upper tier. dunno why everything just stopped

According to the website they're still on the upper tier. But yea, it definitely feels like everything just stopped. Maybe the adcom's on vacay?
 
There were alot of people accepted before May 15, but it seems strange that nobody has been accepted since the deadline. Maybe they are just waiting a bit before they start accepting middle tier folks? Who knows.
 
Hey y'all!

For those of you who have been accepted, I am moving to Birmingham in mid-July for Orientation and wanted to see if anyone here needed a roommate and is a girl in the class of 2016? I am from San Diego and don't know anyone in Birmingham. CAN'T WAIT TO MOVE! Yay! 😍:laugh:😎

p.s. I'm a really awesome roommate haha

I posted way back at the beginning of the thread, but if anyone has any questions about moving / where to live / other questions about starting at UAB, please feel free to PM me. I'm currently a third year (though not a Birmingham native), so I'm happy to answer any questions I can.

have anyone called and asked about the pause in waitlist movement?

I also received that email and it was for UAB! Hopefully this means the list will start moving again soon!
 
Were any of y'all already accepted anywhere else? Just wondering/hoping if it's possible that I didn't get one because I've already had one done by another school.

I'm pretty sure that once you've been accepted to one school, Certiphi already has your consent and the report and can just release it to the other schools at time of acceptance.
 
I got it too!!!! Maybe that means we will get an acceptance email soon!!!! Yayyyyy!
 
Did anyone who hasn't already been accepted somewhere else NOT get the email? Or did the entire alternate list get it?
 
I also have 4 friends in the middle tier, but 3 of the 4 will decline UAB for sure, if accepted.

hey...i just joined sdn so im not on the list either... i am in the middle tier as well.

if your friends arent going to UAB, then why don't they withdraw from the alternate list?

troll? lol hopefully he/she is being honest... instead of preparing my AMCAS application for next cycle I have being playing diablo III; great distraction from all this shenanigans
