I was verified Aug 8.... still waiting on my secondary. I'm not complaining since I still have to finish my other secondaries anyways and I won't have time to work on UMinn just yet.

Someone posted the OOS acceptance rate for the Duluth program. Does anyone know what the OOS acceptance numbers are for the TC program?

PS: wooooooo first page-3 post!! i tipped this thread over the edge

Got a phone call from a 218 #.

Does anyone know how TC feels about in the area emails? I'm interviewing at Mayo in November and would like to only have to make one trip if I were to get an interview here, since it's so expensive

Interview invite at TC campus via email. IS, 30, 3.75. Currently scheduling interviews for Sept 19th.

Regular applicant. I submitted my secondary on 8/1. My payment showed up as received about 2 days after that, not sure when the exact complete date is, but somewhere around there.

Congrats on your Interview! If you're curious to what the interview process is like, this is what happened at my interview last year:

Start at 8:00 in the morning. Paul White came in around 8:15 to give a talk about medical school. I only interviewed with 5 other people. Before lunch was the faculty interview. Time taken was anywhere between 45-2 hours (Minnesota's Faculty interview is low stress. A lot of people got asked what book they had just recently finished.) Go for lunch around 12 with M2s and get a tour. Come back in the afternoon for an interview with M4 (they don't know anything about you, so be prepared about what you want to talk about. General stuff like what you do for fun, volunteer opportunities, why you want to be a doctor, why the u. VERY low stress). I thought interviewing at Minnesota was the most fun out of the other ones. Oh, and there is an opportunity on your interview invite email to meet M2s the night before the interview at a coffee shop. This is awesome because you can ask them any questions and it's really casual. The info about this was kind of hidden in the email last year, but I recommend going to this if you're nervous (I really was).

Paul White is a great guy btw. He says he reads every single application that comes through the TC.

Congrats on the invite!!!!! On my Track Progress page, it states all my materials have been processed/my supplemental application is complete--just wanted to make sure you didn't receive any type of "complete" email or anything and just based your complete status off the website? Did anyone receive a complete email?

Thanks for the details on the interview day, especially the information on the M4 interview!

I did not get any email saying I was complete or any update regarding my application until the II. Hope that helps!

Interview Invite! Not sure if I'm going to attend though

@lockian, the fiance+family is a solid tie, use it don't stretch too much...

Thanks for the input. I really, really want to move to Minnesota as soon as I can, and definitely after residency. Fiance's also an alum of the U.

+1. i really really want to attend since im applying MS/MD, but lack of funds and good dates...

With absolutely no ties to MN, does anyone think Duluth is too much of a stretch?

Verified August 23 and finally got the secondary today (after an inquiring email 2 days ago). I already wrote the essays except one so I will turn it in today. I'm IS so fingers crossed.

The financial status of U of MN Med school is a bit discouraging but MN is home and I'm sure I already have a few connections there.

What do you mean by financial status?

Seems OOS unfriendly.

Umm, State run schools usually are not OOS friendly... I pay taxes here, you don't, so it stands to reason I should have a better chance... Some state schools don't take ANY OOS students, so 10% is pretty good really...

Is the secondary not automatic? lol got the received app email but nothing else. IS.

No, the U of MN does it's own review process after primaries before sending out secondaries. It took them 3 weeks to send me the secondary and this was 2 days after I sent them a polite email asking how long their verification process takes. I prolly shouldn't have but I got antsy.

Interview Invite for TC campus via email today! I am pumped to check out the U! Complete 8/12/11 31Q 3.9 cGPA IS

Congrats!!! Wow Fridays would be awesome! I JUST now got my Secondary. I guess my Aug MCAT would explain it. Thankfully I ended up with a 36S so maybe that will make up for the delay. I better hurry up with finishing it.

Submitted primary 7/20/11, 36S OOS 3.7 cGPA

Thanks! You have some great stats. I don't know how competitive it is for OOS, but you look good!

Also, for anyone who is interested, I talked to admissions and they interview on Thursday, Friday, and Mondays. They were very flexible about offering a date different from the ones originally offered.

Verified 8/22 and still have not received the secondary. IS with good stats/experiences. Is it a poor decision to email the admissions committee?

OOS Invite today to TC
3.55/36S

For some reason MSAR won't let me logon right now, so does anybody know the stats for OOS applicants? How many apply/get an interview/are accepted.

interview invite at TC! so excited!

PM me for stats
AMCAS verified: 6/2
got UMN secondary: 8/2
sent UMN secondary: 8/12
interview invite: 9/26

dates offered:
Monday, October 10,
Thursday, October 13,
Friday, October 14,
Friday, October 21, and
Monday, October 24.

I'm probably going to take the Oct 14 one since I have midterms days before (even though I wanted to take the earlier one!). Hopefully the delay and being OOS won't kill me too much. Anyone know how travel works to get in and the logistics of the day?

I don't know if it would necessarily be a poor decision. But, I can tell you that the U is notoriously slow. You have to be patient with them.

Snail mail rejection today 🙁 First one.

Very sad about this one. I am OOS but have quite strong MN ties.

Good luck to everyone else.

question: is it bad form to switch interview dates after i just submitted my request even if they haven't responded to my request? so i put the 14th as my first choice and the 21st as my second choice, but now i want to reverse because something just came up last minute. thanks!!

I called the admissions office last week, because I wanted to change my interview date as well (this is before they sent me back a date confirmation email) and they were very flexible. Go for it.

ok so i know i'm being neurotic..but will postponing my interview a week have that much of an effect on my chances? (oct 14 vs. oct 21) i just don't want to jinx the fates

also less neurotic..i know UMN is really OOS unfriendly (and i'm OOS). realistically, does residency status play a role at this point at the interview standpoint? like i look at the numbers and like there are less than 30 OOS in a class of 170, but is there anywhere that puts up numbers of accepted and matriculated (b/c we all know they accept more than they matriculate)? i just want to try to get a clearer picture of where i stand being OOS with an interview invite...

apologies for the above neuroticism

Very sad to receive a letter of rejection.

I hope you all the best of luck on your interviews. For those who are also sharing my pain, I hope you guys come through at other schools.

I don't know why it would... I pushed my interview back a week FWIW.

According to US News, of all the OOS people who interviewed 45% got accepted. That's pretty good odds if you ask me.

For IS, closer to 90% got accepted, which seems very high to me. It seems like the U is very particular about whom they invite for interview. So your odds are not nearly as good as an IS resident, but still relatively good nonetheless.

Would you mind giving us a link to that US News if it's not for subscriber only?

Also, how long does it take for them to respond to interview scheduling email? Any info would be much appreciated 😀

yeah, it is a subscription.

I actually called them before they got back to me with my original response, so I can't really comment on that.

hey for those who have gotten interviews or rejections, mind sharing when you were complete? and is/oos. God speed.

Well crossing my fingers here for a interview. I was complete waaaay back in mid-july but held off my MCAT date for later in the year ( Aug 12th). Then one week later after my MCAT score came in I got a secondary, so I guess I may have impressed someone with the score. I am an OOS and just submitted the secondary within a week after getting it. I'll let you know within the next month how it goes. I was kinda expecting the secondary email to be a rejection.. Last year I got tons of those.

it took them two days to respond to my interview scheduling email. i decided not to mess with fate and just go with the day they assigned me.

Thank you for your response! I just got my confirmation today after 3 days. 😀

anyone know if they have an overnight host program? if not..where's good to stay that's walking distance? thanks!

How does UofM-Twin Cities feel about update letters pre-interview?

Same question here. I just got the interview confirmation. So there isn't any coffee night this year? Anyone going in mid October? 😀

Interview invite to TC campus by email! First of the season, so a huge relief. Submitted my secondary 8/28
