I just received an interview invite 🙂 I'm an Illinois (rural) resident with family connections to Missouri and an interest in underserved populations. My stats are 3.9 cGPA, 3.85 sGPA, 28N. I'm pretty excited to have the opportunity to interview here.

When were you complete?

I was complete on August 10th.

Ok, I wasn't complete until the beginning of September, but I have similar stats (and am in-state). Hopefully they show me some love soon!

Interview tomorrow. Shacked up in the hotel watching monday night football. Couldn't be more relaxing.

Let us know how it went!

I had morning interviews, one at 9 and the other at 10. Both of my interviews lasted the entire hour.

Be prepared to walk and talk with your interviewer as they are walking you to the interview room. It can be kind of distracting trying to answer questions as you're passing people in the school and the hospital. The questions were the usual questions. They have your file in front of them including your LOR's.

If I had to guess I would say the first interview is more of the grilling style, and the second interview is of a friendlier, chattier nature.

Plenty of time for questions and a financial aid discussion after the interviews, and then lunch and a tour with a couple of students. I was on the road out of Columbia at 1:45.

The admissions group meets once a week, and a limited number of acceptances go out at the end of each month. And by limited I mean around 5. That number was straight from an admissions person regarding the month of October. They seem to save the majority of acceptances for the end of the cycle.

Good luck everyone

I'd just say look at the interview feedback to get a feel for the questions they might ask. My interview there is in a little over 2 weeks 😱

I had an interview at Mizzou recently and found out a few facts I thought I would share. This is straight from the admissions lady:

The class size is going to be 96 this year. It was raised to 104 last year, but the state of Missouri cut the funding for the larger class so it is down to 96 again for Fall 2012. Also, 27 seats are already reserved for the "rural track" program, so that leaves 69 for the REST of us applicants. She also said that OOS state students get in state tuition after their first year at Mizzou, and that they like to see a decent amount of OOS because it adds "diversity" to the class.

I was just kinda ticked off when I heard all this. We Missouri residents are pretty much getting screwed when it comes to medical school. We have basically 1 state medical school (I don't really count UMKC since they only accept like 10 regular applicants), SLU doesn't really prefer in state people, and WashU is WashU. Mizzou strongly considers applicants contiguous states, while our neighboring states (i.e. Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa) don't give that same luxury to us. It's also a great incentive to go to Mizzou from OOS because of the 2nd year instate tuition. One of the last things that the government needs to be cutting is the number of seats to the states only med school - because having more doctors would actually HELP the economy? Everyone is always saying how there is a major physician shortage, sooooo how about you allow the state medical school to produce MORE physicians. Stupid.

This mirrors my thoughts exactly! State governments seem to be all about job creation, there is no job that is more guaranteed than a physician. I am a Missouri resident and our state government is really frustrating. It seems like every year they cut higher education funding and I left the state for undergrad largely for this reason.

for what's its worth i have a pretty strong 'rural' medicine component with regards to ECs on my application, I'm from a contiguous state (IL), good numbers, and am AMCAS 'economically disadvantaged' and got rejected within 2 weeks of submission. So I imagine at least for the time being (ie up til march ish when they start 'constructing' the class' diversity) that they are accepting a fairly favorable amount of in staters. or they just didnt like me in particular😉

I feel like that's a really pessimistic way of looking at things. Honestly, you're probably more right than I'd like to admit. It's pretty frustrating. Mizzou strikes me as really oddly selective at times too...

Amen to that. I'm still irked that my Bright Flight scholarship was cut by 25%, even though it was supposed to be guaranteed 😡 I understand that cuts in spending have to happen, but things like education and healthcare should not be where the cuts are.

Any one hear anything today? I believe today was suppose to be the day they hand out the first of the acceptances for those who interviewed in October.

I interviewed Oct 3rd and have not heard anything. Where did you hear they were sending out acceptances today?

I asked Allison Martin two weeks ago and she said early November.

I interviewed mid october and she said that the committee's final meeting this month was yesterday and people could hear back as soon as the last friday in October (today). Not really sure what to believe. This constant email checking is killing me though... ha

I interviewed here on Tuesday and they told our group that the first acceptances could be sent out today at the earliest.

I spoke with Allison between interviews this week and she said that emails should be sent either today or Monday. Whether those emails come out as expected may be a different matter. But that's the info I got directly from her just a couple of days ago.

It's easy to be anxious and dejected if you're put into the hold status but there are so few slots early on and most acceptances will be in early March. That said, my heart skips a beat when emails pop up on my phone.

@DVolle - I gave you the campus tour. Just wanted to say hi.

Also, just got an email from MU . . . status unchanged.

Ah, I see you're feverishly checking your email as well. Thanks again for the tour, I really like the campus and program.

Status unchanged e-mail here as well, any idea what this means regarding the probability of being accepted?

Remember MOST people who get in have to go through the holding pattern (as per Allison Martin). The bulk of acceptances come in March. My understanding is that they really only let a small handful in each month and let their ranking list build up towards the end of the cycle. Once interviews are over, that's when they really start making decisions and letting people in.

So what does this mean with regards to being accepted? Your chances are still quite good. I would estimate that about half of in-state interviewees end up getting accepted (last year about 40% of in-state interviewees ended up MATRICULATING so a 50% IS acceptance rate is not unrealistic).

EDIT:

To indulge in a little back-of-the-napkin math:

MU accepts 96 and waitlists 96 (and accepts maybe half from the waitlist). If they accept five per month before March, you're looking at only 25 acceptances during the five month long interview season. Even if you thought they accepted 10 per month, you'd still only be seeing 50 people get in to a class that is close to 100.

Like I said, the majority of accepted students likely went through the "status unchanged" email cycle. MU is trying to select the best applicants from the entire pool rather than the best applicants who present themselves early in the cycle. I can't fault them for this at all, but it is anxiety inducing.

So remain cautiously optimistic, if you can . . .

I just got my status unchanged email as well. I'm happy to even have the chance to interview here but March is so far away.

I didn't get the "Status Unchanged" email.... Here's to hoping that's good news. Fingers Crossed!!

Accepted yesterday 😀! One of my top choices by far.
Looking forward to meeting some of you in the spring at the second look!

Congrats!!! I interview in a couple weeks, and Mizzou is definitely one of my top choices.

I have an interview in 2 days and hope that it goes as good as SLU went. I should be hearing from SLU in a few weeks at the most and had a great interview there while the interviewer told me how awesome my application was etc. But I want to go to Mizzou due to the much lower price... I just hope the interview doesn't go horribly wrong! lol

Yep, me too! I was thinking that this was like a waitlist, but it sounds like it's pretty normal.

Did my tour and interview yesterday. Very impressed with the school and the city. Very well organized tour and all the staff were very friendly. The city is very eclectic and inviting. Perfect for a family. Props to Mizzou.

How long typically does it take to hear back on an interview from heer? Im in state btw. I have already gotten interview invites from others i submitted at the same time. Kinda surprised my state school is the slow one.

I interviewed recently, too. Everyone was super friendly, and Columbia really is an awesome city.

I'm pretty sure I'm withdrawing here, so if I was getting an eventual acceptance I hope it goes to one of y'all! Good luck 😀:luck:

Question - Does Mizzou have student interviewers?

No, you have two interviews with faculty members each of which is about an hour

Correct me if Im wrong but I believe decisions for November interviews go out today correct? I know it's normally the last friday of the month but with next week being Thanksgiving I think they are wrapping everything up today

Does anyone know typically when interview invites go out? I was complete here and at 2 other schools at the same time and have heard from the other schools already. Im also in state.
