So the app asked if a parent graduated from Pitt med/residency, which was a no for me - but my older brother is a resident here. That didn't come up anywhere on the app but do you think it's worth emailing about? Think it would make a difference?

I doubt it's worth worrying about. I honestly don't know why schools even ask this question unless they're concerned about a conflict of interest in case the person you're related to happens to be on the admissions committee

Anybody who's had an interview care to comment on their experience?

The interview experience was outstanding.
I'm very impressed with the school, the student body, the city, and UPMC.
I think the most impressive feature of the school and hospitals are the variety of options available here. If you can think it up, you can do it at Pitt.

lol i saw u guys when i was walking down to student lounge

So what seems to be the usual turn around time for an interview for those with a 35+?

I will be worried that I have some kind of red flag that I never noticed with my application if I get no interview...edit I'm really paranoid. I just realized I was complete yesterday for Pitt.

I talked to some of you guys in the anatomy lab today. First day of dissection!

Sounds awesome! I have to say the Pitt admissions office is the nicest I've interacted with. They really seem to care about and support every applicant. Can't wait to visit in two weeks!!

EDIT: Did anyone hear The Dark Knight Rises is filming in Pittsburgh? Is that still happening? I NEED to meet Christian Bale.

Ya, I saw the batmobile. It was covered up by a tarp, but it was still awesome.

Haven't applied to UPitt, but I just got an email today trying to 'peak my interest' from the admissions office. Whats up with them sending these out at the end of August? I assume its just a mass email based on MCAT score? Primary complete at the end of June.

I got that email too, and I'm wondering the same thing. Does this email mean it will be worth more application fees and filling out another secondary?

I got the same thing this morning. What is the secondary fee? Also, what is the lowest MCAT you have heard getting an interview invite at this school? Sadly, I do not have a 40.

Just got that email as well...what does it mean? Does this mean the school has a genuine interest in me?

Can't afford to fill out another secondary for the heck of it right now...especially if it's the end of August!

+1 and I certainly don't have anywhere near a 40 or even a 35.

A lot of people get 2-3 day turnaround, but it's not necessarily a rejection if you don't find out super fast. My interview invite was after about 2 weeks of being complete. :luck::luck:

Complete Monday, interview invite today! 35 mcat, 3.82 gpa.

Submitted and Complete Today. Hoping for a fast turn around like I've seen on the thread :xf:

Complete since mid-July but no love from Pitt. I'm getting the feeling from this thread that they are number heavy.

I got an interview invite on 8/22 and my MCAT was 34. Hang in there sub 35ers!

I've been complete since 7/14 and still no response... pretty disappointed to say the least.

So are interviews that are handed out now basically auto-invites? I spent a good bit of time on my secondaries and I'd like to think they at least read them.

For those of you that attended interview day, what time was your flight out? How long did it take to get to the airport? The email says schedule it after 6pm but the only reasonably priced ticket is 5:25. Is that pushing it? Thanks!

it takes an hour to get to the airport. interview day ends around 3:30ish.

This is pushing it. I really would recommend doing what the email says. You do not want any added stress of getting to the airport to catch a flight out, especially on interview day. Pitt is a really great place; and the interviews are by no means “stressful.” Still, you don’t want to feel rushed just to save a few bucks.

I caught the airport flyer shuttle after 4PM after changing out of my interview clothes. Also, who knows what traffic conditions will look like that afternoon—there could be delays. As you know, you will also need to allow time at the airport to check in and/or go through TSA and to find your gate/check flight status for any delays. My flight out was at 7:20 and was delayed to 7:40PM.

In short, find a flight after 6PM or think about catching one the following morning: interview day is important—don’t rush it! 😉

Quick question, please. Under course requirements, are we supposed to put quarter hours or semester hours?

I think they want semester hours, at least that's what I used.

Two questions

1) What's the cheapest way to get from Pittsburgh Itl to Scaife Hall? I think there is a flyer bus or something, but where do you catch it from the airport and where does it drop you off?

2) Since I will be staying with a host for only the night before, should I take my luggage with me to the interview or just leave them and come back afterwards?

Cheapest option would be to take the 28X bus from the airport to Oakland. You can get off it on 5th and have a short walk up the hill to Scaife.

I've lived in Pittsburgh since I was 6 so if anyone has questions about the city or whatever, feel free to pm me.

Personal note:

It was so tantalizing passing by Scaife Hall as an undergrad, more so when I did terrible on my first MCAT and knew I basically had no shot to get in. Still, I applied last year and, as expected, didn't get an interview (or from any school for that matter).

I've since greatly improved my MCAT and my application. It would be really special for me to get accepted here in my hometown. I'll be interviewing here in mid-October.

Goodluck with your interview! Just finished secondary, hopefully it's not tooo late.

Thanks, you too! Judging from how fast Pitt seems to go through applications I'm sure you'll be fine!

Can someone tell me what "underserved" means for the interests?

1. Remember to bring $3.25 exact change for fare each way.

2. Take your luggage to the interview. Depending on your host's schedule, she may be in class/activities when you need to leave after your interview. There is a spot in the admissions office to keep this stuff.

About the airport flyer, I know that I need $3.25 in exact change. Will it drop me off at my hotel? and will it pick me up from Pitt? Do I have to call it or something? I am interviewing next week, so help is much appreciated!

no, its a normal bus that has scheduled routes its not like a cab that takes you where you want to go specifically. If your flying in the night before, I would suggest taking it into the city close to where your hotel is (you should be able to find a map of the routes online) then either walk or take a cab from there... but if your hotel is in the city it should just be a short walk from one of the bus stops. In the morning you can take the bus to Pitt and then just walk to Scaffie Hall. If your nervous about taking the bus in the morning have the hotel call you a cab. Good luck I'm sure you will do great!

Thank you! My hotel is literally two blocks away from Pitt, so I just wanted to know if it was hard to get the bus to take me there.

Thanks

I stayed at the Holiday Inn near Pitt and the 28X bus stop was literally at the end of the block!

Another question.

I want to book a flight out at 6:22pm. Is this cutting too close?
When does the interview day officially end without optional/supplemental sessions?

3:15. If you take airport flyer at 4, youll be at airport by 5. That is plenty of time imo
