It seems that, based on speculation, the only people to hear have been non-acceptances, which seems to bode well for those that haven't heard.

Looking at last year's thread, there doesn't seem to be a correlation between when you interviewed and the decision day.

um...is there any hope for people who received waitlist like really soon after the interview? like less than 20 days? it just seems like there was no hesitation to put me on the waitlist so I'm just wondering =(

If there wasn't any hope, I think they would have rejected you. I don't think the time it takes them to make a decision is an indicator of your competitiveness, because there are just too many variables. Lots and lots of people get into Pitt from the waitlist!

I heard from a source at the school that some acceptances have already gone out (along with waitlists/rejections as seen here). I guess they are scattering them over the next few days so that not everyone crashes their server on the 15th lol. I'm hoping to hear back within the next week or so, but we'll see! :xf:

So is the only status update we can get on the wait-list an acceptance?...also I looked through some MDApps and some people have indeed been rejected post-interview.

Waitlisted here as well. There goes my high hopes. Wonder if they rank the waitlist.

Last time I applied I ended up on the waitlist too... I asked about where I stood on it and their response was "we do not disclose that informationo."

So no...

Any chance you know for what interview dates?

As far as I know, the waitlist is not ranked, but if you still have a strong interest in the school in the spring, do write a note to Admissions expressing this. They do appear to have an influence on who gets pulled off the waitlist around March 15.

BTW, anyone else hear back today? and should we expect decisions at midnight tonight or anytime tommorrow?

status updated today. waitlisted as well. feels really terrible 🙁

Take heart. Consider some of the other people on this thread who were also waitlisted, but accepted to really good schools. Seems like they are waitlisting nearly everyone to begin with.

The Admissions Committee of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has decided to place you on the waitlist at this time.

This sentence is very familiar to me as well.

It has been stated before, but Pitt does waitlist a large proportion of their interviewees. There is no possible way to fill their class with the 10% they accept outright, especially considering that a good proportion of those students may matriculate elsewhere. If you've been put on the waitlist, consider it a rain check to an acceptance and hang in there. Logic says that they have to convert a large amount of those waitlist decisions into acceptances to fill their class. 🙂

you have the best name on sdn

Many thanks!

The more I think about it, the more I suspect that the waitlists handed out today are not real decisions, but a mere "holding pattern" for applicants that were not among the first interview groups. My group was told to expect decisions in early December, yet I too was handed the dreaded "waitlist" limbo today. I suspect that they simply waitlist everyone who has interviewed right now, then accept people as the admissions committee reviews their interview group's files.

The downside to this system is you don't really know if you're "waitlisted" or "waitlisted/still under review."

Is it possible that they place people on the waitlist now but then reveal acceptances on november 15th? Kind of like a punishment for those who are impatient lol??

Unlikely...lol but I hope your right!

I guess I try to keep positive (waitlisted as well). But as reiterated above, waitlist in this school is good.

Has anyone heard back that interviewed at the end of October/ beginning of November?

You should have been told at your interview that it will take about 5 week or so. I interviewed November 7 and I'm not expecting a response until winter break. So if you interviewed around then, you're probably looking at December.

I don't think they would waste their time with that.

Yeah I know, but I was hoping maybe they had gotten to it quicker than that. Oh well, I guess I'll just hurry up and wait ( by the looks of it, for a waitlist spot...) until December.

I interviewed in august, but was put on the waitlist last Friday.

After all is said and done Pitt accepts 37% of interviewed applicants - from the fact book.

My wait-list decision came in a bit under 4 weeks, so don't be surprised if it comes sooner.

Still under review, the wait is terrible! Interviewed mid-Sep, seems there should be a decision one way or the other . . .
