I was waitlisted a few days ago and got an email just now saying my status was changed. I almost had a heart attack to find out that I'm still....wait-listed.

Has anyone heard back that interviewed at the end of October/ beginning of November?

yes me - waitlist of course. and they told us don't even bother checking until mid Dec, maybe not til after the holidays, so I was quite surprised. I was hoping the quick turnaround meant automatic acceptance lol

Same here. It seems like that email just added insult to injury... (bitterness aside though, I can annoyingly understand why the email came out... grrr)

Hello guys,

I'm on the wait list as well. Do keep in mind what the admissions office said - they accept the top 15%, reject the bottom 15% and put the rest of the folks on the wait list. A majority of the students who are in the first year were accepted off the wait list. If I recall correctly, it is something like half the class came off the wait list to be accepted.

I misplaced the paper on which I wrote this little tidbit and I can't remember the exact numbers but this is pretty much the idea.

Good luck everyone! :luck:

I'm interviewing tomorrow! I guess that means I'll be waiting a while, at least until after New Year's Day, for a decision.

Just fyi, the admissions office said about 2/3 of the class will come from the wait list.

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Official correspondence should arrive at your preferred mailing address listed on your AMCAS application within two weeks.

!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck to everybody!

Congrats! Do you mind sharing when you interviewed?

Yeah as much as I really liked Pitt and would seriously consider going here if I got in, I can't sit around on a waitlist until May. I'm a little older than most and would need time to sell our house and let my wife find a job. I'll probably be withdrawing soon as well.

Yea this stinks. I'm older and have to same problems. This policy is kind of tough on the non traditionals, which is funny because Pitt seems to like nontrads. Also, you have a macho list of schools I'm sure you can find one good one to attend. 🙂

Well thats good to hear. As much as I really loved Pitt and would love to get in off the waitlist, that 50K tuition is a tough pill to swallow.

Accepted!!! Status was just updated. Interviewed 9/19.

Ditto.

I'm joining the wait list party! :hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy:

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like a waitlister machine lately? lol

Can you guys share your interview experiences? Did you expect to be waitlisted based on your interview experience? How did you guys do interview??

my student interview was lackluster. he didn't seem interested and it ended in 20 minutes.
my faculty interview was super good, lasted 45 min. we connected over our research in a certain sub-field and her knowing of my previous mentor, having lived in a certain part of a certain state, her being married to a doc who is in a specialty and type of practice I want to do, being of the same race and knowing about a certain health disparity I do some community work in, etc.

I don't really understand why Pitt would accept outright fewer people than would fill the class. This process is nonsense. What do they have to gain by pumping up the yield?

I don't even know if I should apply for the PSTP program anymore. Especially now that it's only a minor financial incentive. On the other hand, I'm really interested in one researcher. blah.

i thought both of mine went well...I thought they were the best interviews I had, but I guess not since i got waitlisted =(

This is just my opinion but I feel Pitt puts itself at risk of losing out on many students who would be good fits at their program. Looking through this thread there are a lot of people who appear very strong and already have acceptances that were waitlisted. I don't think being waitlisted makes anyone more enthusiastic about attending a school. Just my two cents.

waitlisted... heartbreaker since i also thought that this interview went the best of them all so far.

so the UPitt waitlist isn't like the typical May 15 waitlist, but we could get in at a subsequent acceptance period? somebody clarify this for me.

1.) Are we definitely not going to hear until after May 15?
2.) or are we rolled over for reconsideration in Dec 15, Jan 15, etc. when the admissions committee continues to meet?

From what I understood from the students there, they start taking people off the waitlist in March. Everyone there told me that they want students to write letters of interest if they want to attend.

My student interview went pretty well. I thought my faculty interview went really well. I also wasn't expecting too much because I knew that Pitt interviews A LOT of people and waitlists (at least at first) most of those.

when should we send a letter of interest? is it the sooner the better? or like january or february so our letters arent buried somewhere in the files and lost forever in a pile of letters.
also when do people start getting accepted on the waitlist, and how are students chosen? best gpa/mcat or whoever applied earlier? this is really stressful 🙁

completely agree. i think pitt is losing out on the top students this way

AMCAS is due here by November 1. Even if you submit secondary on Nov. 1 the last interview slot is Dec. 16. to get scheduled for an interview you'd have to have submitted by August, at latest.

anybody with sept/october submission dates with interview invites? if so, stats?

do you think that because the last interview is only a month away. we may have movement off the waitlist before march? or has the last interview always been in december?

Decided to withdraw. I want to go somewhere where I'm wanted

Good luck to everyone! :luck:

This alone makes me significantly less interested in writing them a "letter of interest." It's like I can feel my hand slowly dragging itself toward the "withdraw" menu, must resist....

Sadly I agree...

Accepted! 🙂
good luck to everyone! i hope all of you waitlisters get into pitt med! 🙂

luckily they have excellent turnaround. I submitted the secondary on 10/5 and received an interview invite on 10/6. So I suppose in theory someone who submits the secondary on 11/1 could still receive an invite. My stats are 3.8/36.

P.S. I'm writing this message in Pittsburgh since I'm interviewing in the morning!!

How come those accepted have like 1 or 2 posts? Anonymity?

Got the official wait-list letter today, pretty much saying that they're accepting fewer applicants out right and will accept a larger portion from the wait-list.

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if any current students (or Pittsburgh residents) would be willing to host a 25y/o female this Sunday night (the 20th). Student host bailed last minute, yikes! Alternatively, if anyone wants to split cost for one of the massively expensive nearby hotels, that might be cool as well (PM me). ok, thanks, and GL everyone!

Edit..booked a hotel...

still nothing. says app is still under review.

Samesies. Complete there 9/27. Any chance they just flat-out ignore the apps that arrive after a certain date? I definitely have some concerns about how this school treat their applicants.

They are mighty quick at interview invites. Submitted secondary 11/13, invite 11/17.

Stats in case anyone wonders:
GPA: 3.77 Major: Chemistry, Minor: Math
MCAT: 35

Just to echo the quick turn-around sentiments (my quickest II by far)..

Complete 10/29, invite 11/1, attended 11/16
3.9/40/non-trad

Great program, immense resources, charming city (wayyy more hilly than I expected).. Really hope I get some good news from them.. We were told that our interview cohort could expect decisions between mid-Dec and early Jan.

I've seen a lot of talk about sending a letter of interest when on the waitlist, but does anyone know how receptive they are to update/interest letters pre-interview?

Yeah, their waitlist practice seems a little weird, but they went out of their way to provide an organized, professional day for the interviewees, so I don't think they treat their applicants too badly. I do, however, think they may be losing a lot of great people due to their waitlist process.

I thought the curriculum intro talk was disorganized. The fourth year students, who didn't have the full new curric, were repeatedly correcting the admissions dean giving the talk.
