Yes! just got off the waitlist just now 😀
goodluck to everyone!

Just accepted off the waitlist!! Oh. My. God. In heaven right now :biglove:

THERES A FLOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDD thank you ivys for their decision mass email on march 15th/16th , opening a spot and allowing me a chance to go to medical school...i won't be a unemployed homeless college graduate...(wooohoooooos)

Congratulations to everyone accepted today! Hope to meet some of you in august!

Congrats to everyone!

Still feels like a kick in the gut to us continued wait listers.

Can anyone who was just accepted off the wait list chime in on if you sent update/intent letters? How many? How often.... Etc.

Thanks, all!

I sent two updates and one letter of interest and I am still waiting. Now I am thinking that the admissions committee don't really care much about those kinds of letters.

I didn't send any letters of interests or updates

has anyone been accepted that is not from pennsylvania or has some connection with pittsburgh? it seems like most, if not all SDN people either went to undergrad there, or live in pitt, or at least pennsylvania.

only 26% of the class is from PA and 13% attended Pitt for college (MSAR). i am one of those 74/87%ers

i got off the waitlist in february and have no connection to pittsburgh at all. i just was very fortunate.

Well, sometimes it seems like at least 1/3 of the class are refugees from CA.

Who should waitlisted students send update/interest letters to at this point? I've sent a few to the general admissions email but I thought it may be better to send them directly to an admissions officer now.

Also, does anyone know whether there's likely to be another wave of accepts before May 15th?

Thanks!

if there will be another wave, my guess would be that it would be on monday. other than that, probably may 15 :\

I've been hearing about all the bomb threats at Pitt, not to mention the shootings. I wonder if this is affecting the current students at all.

The shooting was tragic. Fortunately no medical students were harmed, but an employee at the psychiatric hospital was tragically killed.

The bomb threats haven't affected me that much. No hospitals have been targeted. It was originally just the Cathedral of Learning and other academic buildings. Recently it has included dorms and other buildings. Hopefully authorities get it figured out soon.

The bomb threats are really just an annoyance and are targeted at the undergraduate academic buildings and freshman dorms. It hasn't affected the medical students, but they might be subjected to the new security measures being implemented tomorrow (we're not allowed to have backpacks and only Pitt students/faculty are allowed into buildings).

As for the shooting, it was a horrible and scary event, but Pitt police were on the scene and took down the gunman within a couple minutes, which saved many lives. I stand by the fact that Pitt and Oakland are extremely safe and the level of security is excellent.

I just hope these events scare people off such that I can get off the waitlist

A friend of mine who goes there said their up to 57 bomb threats. Some are in the middle of the night and the dorms have to evacuate.

Meh, after you work at an ED of a hospital for a bit, you realize this is kinda the atmosphere you live in...

Yep, we just hit 57 today (12 today alone). We receive texts and/or phone calls with each threat, so we were all woken up this morning at 4am with the dorm threat. I'm not scared at all at this point, pretty sure the guy calling in the threats is just enjoying his power trip. I'm just going to be super upset if he messes with graduation 😡

Does anyone have a link to the Facebook group? I barely use Facebook and my search yields nothing.
As for the bomb threats, it does seem like it's a prank, but it is good to know that security is handling it. By the way, my school received a bomb threat a little while ago so maybe it's a common thing in schools across the country?

There were a few bomb threats and text messages about "mysterious packages" from time to time at my school, too. They were all pranks/false alarms. They never fazed me, nor am I going to be scared away from Pitt because of what's going on there.

um, this is not a few bomb threats here and there. This is something quite a bit different. This blog summarizes it fairly well: http://stopthepittbombthreats.blogspot.com/

Hope they catch the jerks. The FBI is working on it as well.

I know we just broke into national news (CNN, Fox) and they are completely underplaying the seriousness of what is going on (Fox's article today said we have received 25 threats since February, but we have received 57). While I'm really not alarmed, and people considering coming here for med school shouldn't be alarmed either, it is a lot more serious than what they're reporting it to be.

OK point taken, I shouldn't have compared the occasional prank to what's going on at Pitt at the moment -- 57 threats is beyond ridiculous. Prank or not, I'm sure there are people who are terrified at this point, especially parents of the students, etc. Hopefully they catch the people behind this soon. They can't outsmart the FBI, can they? Thanks for the blog link src. Very interesting analysis on there.

My point wasn't that I like the threats. I think it's ridiculous, but I also feel the Oakland area is quite safe and this issue will be resolved. I hope the punks get caught and do not advocate it in anyway. My bad for not expressing that in my original post or seeing that it's up to 57. That's freaking nuts.

please give me your opinions--is it better to send in updates through the mail or email the admissions office? has anyone that emailed them gotten a response that they received it and printed it and placed it into the file? i guess i am just neurotic that my letters will get lost in their inbox. thanks everyone 👍

You can always email and then call the next day (give them a bit of time) to make sure it made it into your file. The people in the admissions office are very nice, I've called a couple times throughout the cycle to make sure they had something I sent in or to make sure those online forms went through and they are very accommodating.

Can't believe it- just got the email invite to second look- checked status afterward and it had changed to accepted!!! Waitlisted Nov, sent three letters.

Finally unlurking to say I also got the email to second look this morning and was thoroughly confused because I thought I was waitlisted (also in November), then checked the site and my status is now accepted! Yay!

Log in to your secondary application with your AMCAS ID and the password they gave you. There is a tab for App Status.

each day, the Class of 2016 FB groups for the schools I'm waitlisted by gains one member... D:

Well, I'll be 5 minutes away from 2nd look this weekend, hell I'll probably end up bumping into the festivities. Sadly, I'm still on the "wait-list".

That kind of sucks. My currently strategy is wait and hope for May 15th some nice movement. I'm not too hopeful though.

Hi,

I have a question for my fellow wait-listers:

When did you have everything in by? (i.e. supplementary app., committee packet, etc.)

My adviser took three months to get my committee packet in btw (sent in September) D:

Has anyone rec'd his or her need-based financial aid info? should I expect to wait longer to hear?

Not yet, but we were told during second look that they would arrive this week. If you haven't received anything by Thursday afternoon, give them a call.

Thanks!! how was second look? I'm sad I missed it..

Very informative. Spent a lot of time talking with current students (especially MSIVs) and professors. Curriculum talk, scholarly projects presentations, a very nice lunch. That sort of stuff. I was only there for Friday so didn't attend the night activities. Second look definitely made me like Pitt even more 👍
