Agreed. It was definitely awesome. To be frank, I wasn't sure about Pitt before second look: it was like 40/60, now it's 60/40...basically it's gonna come down to fin aid...🙂

Just received my award letter! Very happy with it, will probably attend.

Received an email about the Prologue to Medicine program (formely the Pre-Matriculation Program). Can any current students who attended this program describe your experience with it? Was it helpful? thanks

Does everyone get invited to this program?

Just withdrew from other schools. Matriculating here:soexcited:

A bunch of my MS1 friends did it last summer and they fully recommend it. They said it was great to make a group of friends before the influx of 150 happens, and you get a little taste of what classes are going to be like so you don't get overwhelmed when anatomy starts in August. Basically their praise of the program made me wish I didn't already have a job lined up for the summer, because I would have really liked to do it!

Does everyone get invited to this program?

I would think all accepted students are invited, but I'm not sure. Check your spam folder! Should have been an email on May 2 with an attached letter from Dr. P

Two people left the fb group...hopefully they're happier elsewhere...and good for us!

Just got in off of the waitlist via email!!!! Horray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 🙂 😍

Just got in and I almost spilled LB media all over my bench lol! good luck to people on the waitlist! 👍

I'm sure you all have to make tough decisions now that you can only hold one acceptance at a time. I don't want to sway your decision in any way, but remember this small piece of advice: choose Pitt!! 😀

But no seriously, congrats guys! Great to see waitlist movement. And good luck to those still waiting :luck:

lol Am I the only one still wait-listed? Save another cycle, I've pretty much given up on Pitt. Congrats to those that were just accepted, you guys deserve it!

Haha, don't give up yet. Even if they've given out enough acceptances to fill their class, many of them are going to withdraw, which will lead to more people being pulled off the waitlist. Just gotta hang in there and stay optimistic 👍

i sent two update letters, a LOR and am writing a third...this all seems futile because i doubt people just accepted off the waitlist are not going to attent... 🙁

I have had a similar experience writing letters of intent and calling...no luck yet...I'm a champion waitlister though...

Keep your heads up. I thought that Pitt had counted me out since they started pulling from the waitlist in February, but I sent some letters and a LOR and it worked! It's just awkward that last week I told another school I'd be matriculating, and now I have to back out. ;x

Guess I shall be seeing you in the 2012-2013 Pitt thread? Or did you get in somewhere? Good luck!

Congrats to all who got in!

Hey guys, don't give up quite yet! Our deposits to hold our seat are due anytime before May 24, and they're not checking for people holding multiple acceptances until next week. I would imagine that acceptances will trickle in over the week because I bet there are people taking advantage of this extra week to make a decision. Good luck!! :luck:

Do schools where you are on the WL "know" if you have been accepted elsewhere? Anyone know? Just wondering if we are less likely to get an acceptance if we've been accepted somewhere else.

I can't remember the dates listed on AMCAS, but by now, yes, they do know.

By around mid-March, all schools that you've applied to can see where you are currently holding acceptances, but that's it. They won't see where else you've been accepted if you've already withdrawn or which waitlists you are on.

Just wondering if we are less likely to get an acceptance if we've been accepted somewhere else.
no idea if schools take this into consideration

I'm sure it's a consideration that you have been accepted elsewhere, but by no means is it a deal-breaker. I would think that if you hold no acceptances, schools may wonder why no where else accepted you and if there's something wrong with you. *shrug* Who knows! If you're wondering about Pittsburgh, I was accepted to four other schools and they still pulled me off of the wait-list.

Once it gets down to the wire (July/early Aug), they will probably aim for people without acceptances because then it's almost a guarantee that they will attend.

Thanks doing my best!

Thanks, I don't have any acceptance yet so that will most likely be the case! Same with you?

Thank you! If I'd get an acceptance email from Pitt I'd be so excited that I'd lose my mind and jump of a bridge or something, and sadly my spot would go to someone else. :lame:

Accepted this morning! So excited for Pitt! The waitlist is still moving...

Got acceptance yesterday. But, I have almost made up my mind to go somewhere else which is even much lower ranked than Pitt. Is Pitt too late? I have few days to ponder.

Only thing is that I did not submit needaccess application. Only FAFSA. Would they not give any fin aid without needaccess?

If you are comparing with a much lower ranked school, Pitt is NOT too late.

Although I doubt it would be too late for Need Access, even if you have to borrow the full COA for the first year, it won't make too much of a difference in the long run. Even if you come from a really low income family (I'm talking federal poverty level), your need-based scholarship is not going to be much more than 30k. I would choose Pitt over a much lower ranked school any day if the cost difference is going to be only 30k. And the financial aid at Pitt is probably going to at least as good as any lower ranked school for years 2-4 unless you were offered a lot of merit scholarship.

Just submitted it. Hope they would accept it after the deadline.

Yuuuup. I'm working on the primary stuff (and hassling for LOR's) for 2012-2013 now... wooooo. Not really too bad though, since the groundwork is done.

And I now purposely do not check e-mail till after work because I don't want to end up cutting my hand off in post-e-mail excitement while at work.

Me too, now we can do it early and right this time around. Ha yes we should stick to finding out while alone, secluded, and no chance to harm others or ourselves.

Does anyone know Pitt's deal with Drug testing students prior to, or after metriculation?

Whoo hoo! See you guys soon! Make sure you take a trip out to the burgh sometime to look at housing, if you're not Pittsburgh residents already...

I agree that you should make every attempt to check out housing in person before signing anything (or have someone you trust do it if you can't). Also, before even making phone calls to set up viewings, just do a quick google search to see if any reviews are available. When I was researching apartments, I found out quickly that the management at a lot of places are just horrid (e.g. Lobos). Stay clear from these places. The survey from the second look website link was very helpful for me and I found a place that I know I'll be happy with. One less thing to worry about. Can't freakin' wait 'til August!

I'm so excited to meet everyone!! If anyone is going to be in Pittsburgh after June 20, shoot me a PM and we can meet up!

^Agree 100%. I've seen so many Craigslist ads for places that just include pictures of the shiny, remodeled interior, and then I see the addresses and they're in really bad areas. Never rent from Lobos!! I've never met anyone who had something good to say about them. I've also heard horror stories from Mozart - one girl I spoke to has been taking freezing cold showers for the last 3 months because their landlord refuses to fix the water heater.

Anyone know much about Forbes Mgmt?

Yea, it seems like the management organizations are no bueno. But i'm finding it kinda hard to find places that aren't too dingy...blah.

Anyone know much about Forbes Mgmt?

From the Landlord Survey Results 2012: B/B+ rating
22 of 38 students would recommend this landlord
11 of 38 students would possibly recommend this landlord
5 of 38 students would not recommend this landlord
1 of 38 students reported that they filed a complaint with an external agency on this landlord

(Source: https://surveyweb2.ucsur.pitt.edu/oclrc/) The survey is only accessible to Pitt students (I tried the login info for The Zone and it didn't work, so I used my undergrad login). If there is a landlord/management company you want me to look up, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the ratings and recommendations.
