any advice? i'm interviewing here real soon too and i'm starting to freak out a bit!

it's nothing to worry about, FOR SURE.

the staff are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nice (probably the nicest people i've met on the interview trail). the dean was this cute (older) lady who clearly really wanted us to succeed and kept cracking jokes with us. the interviewers were SO SO SO SO SO amazing but i might've lucked out because i had two interviewers who both matched my two top hobbies so well so we spent probably the whole time talking about our hobbies and less about usc, haha!

i also loved my fellow interviewees (if you couldn't tell by my message). i hope they find me here... HELLO!!!

the campus is really nice, kinda small but that's okay. the hospital is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO incredible, i can't even explain. it's huge, there are so many patients, and one thing i enjoyed throughout the day was asking everyone i could about the craziest/most outrageous patient case they've ever seen. it'll blow your mind what comes through LAC.

seriously, i didn't prep at all (LOL) because it was my last interview. i would suggest knowing (1) why usc and (2) why medicine like any other school interview but otherwise just be yourself. so relaxing!

I heard back on the 3-weekiversity of when I interviewed but I know some people are in the 4-5 week range. They tell you 4-6 weeks at the interview.

:luck:

PS... is there supposed to be a google group thingy? I saw it mentioned a bunch in last years thread but not this years. Im on the FB group though

Same here. I feel like I'm in a horror movie where the serial killer picks the group of teenagers off 1 by 1....

🤣Exactly the situation. It's come to the point where I get anxious when I get new emails.

Got rejected this morning via e-mail. Ah well. Hope one of you SDN'ers has some better luck!

For the people that unfortunately got rejected recently, when were you complete? I'm trying to see if there's a pattern in how they're reviewing applicants.

Thanks

Sometime in September...I think maybe the 18th?

I was complete in mid July so it doesn't appear that there is any sort of pattern to this unfortunately. Good luck!

Interesting. I was complete early August and I haven't heard back yet. They might just be reviewing applicants randomly.

Well thanks for your replies!

So.....I didn't get an e-mail but checked the status on the usc portal on "communication status" =( sad news...I got rejected last week and didn't even know! Thank goodness i didn't check cuz it was dated on Valentine's Day...well good luck to you all!

I've been complete since the middle of July and still nothing.

Maybe they are waiting because they are going to have to interview more people after the March 2nd date so they are holding onto ours to interview us later.
Just being hopeful

HA. I wish.

well, my hope ran out.....I was rejected pre-interview this morning. This one really hurts as I was hoping to remain a Trojan and stay in Los Angeles.
Good luck to those of you still waiting for acceptances or interviews.

So if we didn't get notification of a merit scholarship with our acceptance that means we didn't get one, right?

They told us yesterday when I interviewed that you may not hear about a merit scholarship until after your acceptance because they are two different committees. They also said that if you want you can call and they will let you know if your application is still in consideration for scholarships.

Got a survey from Keck today, my heart nearly leapt out of my chest. Why do schools so that??

Any students or applicants want to discuss what is unique about Keck SOM versus other medical schools?

Thanks

I've been accepted to Keck and currently it's my first choice. Do any of you know the start date for the class of 2016 (sometime in August probably) or anything about housing or what town most students live in? I'm from the east coast and don't know the area. Thanks!!

Based on last years schedule that I found on a google search I'm guessing classes start the second or third week in August. As for housing, there are some good insights throughout this thread if you read through it. Also join us on the c/o 2016 FB group and there is a good discussion on housing there.

See you in the fall!

Same thing happened to me. They shouldn't send those through the "medadmit" email address. Hey, there's a suggestion for their survey!

recently had my interview here. very chill and relax. interesting that they clearly stated that they did not want thank you letters. interviews went OK with the student and faculty and i just hope (as always) that it went better than it did in my head haha

now i guess i'm back to post gaming my interview and overanalyzing everything i said and freaking out neurotically....

that has A LOT of housing info. It really seems like there isn't one area where "most" students live--it kind of depends on what "vibe"/environment/cost/distance you are looking for.

Judging from previous years' calendars, I think orientation will probably be the week of Aug 6th-10th and then actual classes will start the 13th. That's totalllly speculative though.

1. Second week of August, most likely. MS2s start the first Monday of August and I think MS1s usually start one week later.
2. Most students live in the Pasadena or Los Feliz/Silverlake areas. They each have their pros and cons. Pasadena is very safe and suburban with some fun bars and a ton of good restaurants, but it's far from the westside (where most of the awesome things in LA are). Los Feliz and Silverlake are more urban and trendy, but can be a little more expensive and a little more sketch than Pasadena. If you're from NYC, think of Silverlake as the Williamsburg of LA. If you can, come out for second look and try to organize a neighborhood tour with some of your incoming classmates.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions, and definitely check out the c/o 2016 Facebook group.

So its monday, wonder what to expect this week....

Email rejection today. Good luck to all those interviewing and congrats to those accepted!

Interviewed recently. Went okay, could have been better. It's only a piece of the puzzle though... This is going to be the longest 3? 4-6? weeks of my life.

Sigh...hope it works out for the both of us. Keck is my dream school.

same here. just keep thinking positive thoughts. we've done all we can now, our fate is out of our hands. keep distracted haha, i find that helps

I still haven't been rejected yet, but given their last interview day is tomorrow, I have a hard time believing they haven't already decided to reject me.

I don't understand why they're sending out these rejections so sporadically. I mean, is there really any reason to whittle down the list of potential interviewees when you're 2 days from the last interview? Why not wait till the interview day is over, and just reject everyone all at once?

The engineer in me is writhing in pain at the blatant lack of logic here...
