I love these Texas schools that don't have secondaries!!!

Should I expect to wait until August for an interview invitation? It looks like last year their first interview wasn't until 9/03.

Yea, August sounds about right. I took a look at my old emails and that was when I was notified for my interview on 9/10. Also solid job on submitting so early this time around.
 
quick question..how can someone submit their application in May if you cant submit until June 1....or atleast i thought. can you give me some insight on this??

You can submit TMDSAS starting in May.

AMCAS starts in June.

Also, this is probably tied for my first choice right now with UT-Southwestern. I'm from Houston so I love the city.

I made a delivery for one of the MDs at NASA, yesterday, to MD Anderson. I love the Houston Med Center.

i have a question plz, i am not applying this cycle rather the next one, my question is, since most of the tmdsas schools dont have secondary apps, does that mean they dont need letters of rec? thanks and good luck to all appying this cycle:luck:

You submit LORs with your primary.
 
So, I would really love to attend UT Houston. I visited a while back and I loved it. Realistically, what do you guys think my chances are? Please be totally honest. Here are some of my stats:
- Texas resident
- Ivy League undergrad
-3.65 GPA, 3.55 sGPA
-26-27 MCAT
-roughly 75 shadowing hours
- Div. 1 varsity athlete w/ numerous awards (took up no less than 25-30 hours a week, literally)
- Double major in two subjects that are non-science related
-had to take a few science classes over the summer at a community college, or else I wouldn't have been able to complete a double major.
-2008 Coca-Cole scholar (if that even means anything...)

I would greatly appreciate some feedback

Do you have any clinical experience through volunteer work? The shadowing is good. The GPA is fine. The MCAT score may be a problem though. I strongly recommend retaking.

What sport if you don't mind me asking? I'm D1 in cross-country/track and I'm hoping adcoms look highly on that.

So all we need to do is submit TMDSAS and have UT Houston listed? No need to go to UT Houston site and fill something else out or anything?

Correct. Submit the primary are you're good.

I've always been under the impression that division 1 athletes have a little bit of an advantage because it shows that you can handle a large time commitment while also taking care of prioritizing your education and taking care of business in the classroom.

Now, that being said, I would say you have a chance of getting into UT Houston. I was not a DI athlete and had a 3.89 GPA and 3.9 something sGPA at the time of application and a 29 MCAT and got an interview relatively early on in the interview cycle and received a pre-match acceptance in the first round of pre-matches whatever that was (Nov. 15 I believe).

I wouldn't say you're a lock but at the same time wouldn't say you don't have a chance at all. Get the application in early and see how the cards play themselves out.


Also, as stated above, I'll try to check in on this thread periodically if anyone has a question they want my answer on.

Nope. The list of Faculty who interview is masssssive, so your odds of getting her are slim.
 
I love Houston and would like to study here but do you recommend me applying from OOS? 3.31 cGPA, 3.29 sGPA, 35R MCAT
 
Any current med student want to comment on the curriculum here? I've heard that UT-H organizes their classes so that you end up taking all of your final exams in the same week.

What's up with that? It seems like a pretty crazy way of doing things compared to the "one class --> one midterm/one final --> repeat" system that other Texas schools employ.
 
By and large we like our curriculum. The biggest complaints seem to come from people who don't go to our school. You adjust to it, and it's really not that bad.
 
Not too much action going on with UT Houston huh? Maybe sometime in July they'll acknowledge that applications are complete for verified applicants?
 
they dont start reviewing until this month. last year interviews started i think on 9/2?

I don't think UTH sends any correspondence unless you are invited for an interview - at least that's what happened last year with me.

Right. If you're complete with TMDSAS you're complete with UTH. They don't notify you (or haven't in the past)
 
I was looking at MSAR for Texas schools under the "selection factors" and BOTH UTMB and UT Houston say they don't accept online coursework for prerequisites. I took English online. Does anybody know if prerequisites are referring to just science prereqs or does that include English? And is this an actual rule or does MSAR have it wrong? Nobody has ever mentioned that to me. I just luckily ran into it. Thanks for any help!

Im wondering this as well. I think it only counts for sciences. A couple people i knew who matriculated there last year took their 2nd english course online. Safe to email though
 
FYI. just called the school to ask some questions and they said they haven't downloaded any applications yet.

Yea. they dont start inviting towards end of july/early august for sept dates
 
UT Houston is far and away my top choice. Love the city, grew up there, lots of friends and family, the Med is amazing, and you can't beat MD Anderson for cancer research (which is what I want to do).

Anyone else applying MD/PhD?
 
^ I am! I'm so nervous though. Reading about everyone else's research on SDN makes me feel bad, bro.

Same here. When i visited the school senior year of high school, I fell in love with it.

No MD/PhD. Didnt have my area of interest
 
Reading about everyones everything makes me feel bad haha. You mean you didn't do five years of research with a Nobel laureate/don't have a 45 MCAT/didn't have a 4.1 GPA? :laugh:
