He said non-URMs.

To Laplace:

Hmmm. I do believe that you are the only one who said I was an URM. I don't see how you can comment on ANYTHING about me when you DON'T know me (besides what I've said on here). So I politely ask you to stop commenting for and about me (espec. if neither one of us referenced you in the comments). Thanks.

To BlakeV:

No problem. I'll send it in a message in the near future. 🙂

^ Can you PM me was well.

I am applying next cycle and I trying to find motivation in studying for a retake after scoring a pathetic 30 my first time around.

First of all, this is the only time I said you were a URM. Many others earlier in this thread have pointed it out before but not me. I'm just saying he specifically said non-URM because he's trying to get an accurate prediction of his chances for us "normal" people. It would be misleading to have others believe a Caucasian or Asian applicant with a 27 and a 3.5 can prematch at UTSW, no matter how good your ECs are. No need to get defensive and mislead others, I'm sure you've worked hard and you deserve it (not being sarcastic).

wow

MedSchool1988, first of all, congrats on your pre-match to UTSW. It's a great school and should you choose to go there, you'll love the school and the surrounding area (Be warned though: Harry Hines has a reputation at night...)

I was also wondering about your EC's. Can you please send them to me via PM? And would I be right in assuming that you faced personal extenuating circumstances (I'm not trying to imply anything about URM here. Just curious)?

Medschool1988, congrats on your acceptance!!!

I too am interested in your EC. Can you PM me as well? Thank you!

Thank you for the hotel advice STxHorn, AWK87DOC, and imymemine!

Some additional questions:

1) It says "Business attire" for the the Rounds on Friday morning, and "Business Casual/Casual" for Friday Afternoon/Evening. Does this mean we need a suit for the morning rounds, or are pants and a nice shirt okay? (I'm a girl)
2) So our guest is allowed to the Friday afternoon sessions. Is Saturday for interviewees only?

Thanks a bunch!! 🙂

Yes, pants and a ice shirt is fine (that's what I wore and I'm a girl too) for Friday. And yes Saturday is for interviewees only. There is an info session, tour of the hospitals and then interviews, then lunch concluded with a tour of the gym

Would a letter of intent/update letters at this point have any affect on match/post-match? I'm wondering if I should send some in to Texas schools...

How is UTSW's financial aid? Any grants or mostly loans?

Hi, does anyone know when OOS acceptances start going out for rolling admissions? Is it Feb. 1?
Thanks

I'm fairly certain they started the same time as in-state acceptances (Nov. 15th).

How is UTSW's financial aid? Any grants or mostly loans?

There are definitely grants. I think the reason no one has answered your question is that each person really only knows their own financial aid. At our MS0 (2 years ago) we were told UTSW students graduate with the lowest debt of almost any school in the county (~100k though that number obviously rises each year). If I remember correctly, they also showed us a "typical first year aid package" that included $6,000 in grants. You get fewer grants and more loans each year so that you pay less interest on loan money, so that number is probably a little lower each year. Hope that helps (even though it's two years old). If not, and you are trying to decide between schools, call the registrar. He will be much more helpful. If you're not choosing between schools on a tight deadline then just wait til MS0 day and you will get lots of info/can ask questions then.

How do I go about sending information on a new award?

I recently received the Outstanding Senior Engineer Award that they give to only the top 5 engineers at Texas A&M and I really want them to know.

Thanks guys

Cool story, bro. Send an update letter...

I don't know much about how the match stuff works, but is it safe to say that most kids with lower stats get into utsw after the match rather than through pre-match? How many people does utsw take through prematch vs match?

They accept a total of about 350-400 students, and about 240 matriculate. I think about 250-270 receive prematch offers. UTSW doesn't technically "match" on Feb 1st, but my friend got in the next day. Usually around 100 or so students will get in between Feb 1st - the week before school starts.

Good luck!

Parkland Hospital is suing UT Southwestern?

So I'm pretty stressed about the ranking deadline for match day and have found alarming information regarding Southwestern that I would like input/explanation of.

Google: UT Southwestern vs. Parkland hospital for more information

Parkland has also been among the lowest in rankings for Texas schools' Patient Safety Indicators.

How is this going to affect UT Southwestern's reputation and relationship with Parkland?

Search for previous posts in this thread. It's an interesting topic, and I'll let you draw your own decisions.

Parkland has had some administrative problems in the past, but after talking with former students and individuals associated with various residency programs, it doesn't seem to affect the quality of the clinical training that students receive at UTSW.

Same DMN troll....new day

Think about it:

First post
Just joined SDN
Same posting style as the troll (citing multiple sources about Parkland, then using that to attack UTSW)
title in the post
etc..

Its 2+2 people

Yup exactly what i was thinking, DuDE! Quit hijacking this thread and go write real tangible articles c'mon

Wow, I'm seriously just another student stressed about match and trying to make a informed decision for tomorrow!! Your attitude toward other students on forum is a turn-off if you're going to be one of my potential classmates at Southwestern.

Whatyousay- thank you for telling me about searching the old threads. I'm new to SDN so I didn't realize this discussion has already been thoroughly covered earlier. I read the old posts and they were helpful, although again biased due to some posters' attitudes.

Please....
Why do you only post in the UTSW forum?
What was your MCAT score?
Why did you wait till the end of the cycle to join SDN?
Which other medical schools did you Interview at?
What undergrad did you go to?
What was your GPA?
Etc....

What others are not able to see is a long list of posts in this thread from multiple authors (which somehow only joined SDN to post in this forum) posting for the first time about articles from DMN slamming parkland and using that to attack UTSW.
Those posts were deleted by mods

Yes you're right here- the only reason I joined SDN was to post about my concerns with UTSW. I could scroll through the forums without having to join SDN previously, but this is one topic that warranted my attention enough to post about it.

What was your MCAT score?
32, although this isn't going to appease you because I could easily be making it up right??

Why did you wait till the end of the cycle to join SDN?
See the first question. I have been using SDN mainly for the Interview Feedback feature, which I could access without joining.

Which other medical schools did you Interview at?
I interviewed at all of the TMDSAS schools except the two Texas Techs.

What undergrad did you go to?
I do not want to give up my identity for some rando who is not even polite. Besides, you would think I was lying anyway.

What was your GPA?
Again, irrelevant but it was a 3.6 science GPA and 3.8 overall.

Now what.

Fair enough if your first post was legit. Just in the interest of trying to smooth things out here, you should take our word for it when we say this thread has been spammed/trolled with the DMN stuff several times before (posts deleted as described). The reply to your first post was simply a reply to that. If your intentions were legit, then no harm, no foul. No need for anyone to get upset.

I feel uncomfortable that these forums are being censored. As a prospective student, of course I would hope that the DMN is corrupt here, but the extreme defensive and angry of the posters here do not bring logical reasoning to back up UTSW/Parkland's situation. Removing all of the negative posts about Southwestern does not alleviate my concerns.

Didn't read your link. I've seen enough to see the original issue was all trolling.

Any good forum needs to have mods who can do their job well, and clearing spam which detract from the purpose of the thread and/or forum is clearly a legitimate function of those mods. If the info posted had any merit, it wouldn't have been deleted. I don't think the mods for SDN have a dog in that fight. They do, however, have a vested interest in running a sight that is free of trolling.

Thanks for trying to mediate here- I'm sorry for causing trouble now, but I think you can understand why I would be offended.

For what it's worth, I do understand. It's unfortunate someone else's trolling caused a misunderstanding.

I see the DMN troll is getting smarter. The sentence structure and voice of premedstudent2 is pretty much the same as the past. Nice try. Can't wait to see what your next username will be!

Rank'em how you like. Uh-huh.

Fool me once, shame on me...

Do you hear yourselves, do you really think some journalist is going to stay up until midnight arguing with lowly premeds on a forum? I would think he/she would have better things to do. I think you're being a little presumptuous here of how important the world thinks you are. I hope this attitude does not carry through with you in your medical career, because that's exactly why doctors have a bad rep these days.

Luckily for me at least, I am pretty sure I will be ranking UTMB higher so I will not have to deal with such self-absorbed classmates. If going to Southwestern it means I have to spend the next 4 years with such rude people, I will definitely be avoiding this school like the plague.

Thanks for helping to substantiate my decision.

Hello pot, this is kettle, don't let the door hit you on the way out. 🙄

Is there a FB group for UTSW for class of 2016? Sorry if if's already been posted I'm new to SDN

LOL yeah good luck with that. Hopefully you prematched to UTSW (if you are real) so someone else on here can get your spot after you give it up for UTMB 😀

It's not coming up. Oh well. Thanks anyway!!

If the person who created it uses "secure" browsing for fb (an option under Account Settings), then I don't think people who do not use secure browsing can search for it. Secure browsing makes it "https" instead of "http".

So at the Jan 7th (last) interview day, they mentioned filling out FAFSA between Jan 1st and Feb 28th and that we should do it as soon as possible. But everyone who interviewed that day cannot get accepted to UTSW before Match Day (Feb 1st) since pre-match offer period is over. Should we wait until acceptance, or is there no harm in filling out a FAFSA even if you do not get accepted this cycle? (Since they can't pay it out unless you attend a school anyway). Thoughts?

I'd be interested in finding this out too please...

When I interviewed there, they said to fill up the FAFSA regardless of an acceptance. Though they did also say that your aid package would more or less be the same regardless of whether you turned in your fafsa on the 1st of jan or on the 28th of feb.

Thanks! They also mentioned that parent's income is not considered, but FAFSA says that "health profession" students may want to include their parent's information too? Thoughts?

Include your parent's information.

Does anyone know if they're done sending out interview invites? 🙁

Sorry, they're done with interviews for this cycle. Jan 7th was the last interview date. The only Texas school still sending out interview invites would be Baylor now (since they go through AMCAS instead of TMDSAS).

Include your parent's information.

I called the financial aid office and was told that you should include your parents' information if you want to be considered for institutional grants and scholarships. Otherwise you will only be eligible for loans. I am nontrad with my own family and considered independent, but still did it.

Would it be weird if I wanted to stay with a student for MS0 day if I live in the area? UTSW was one of the few schools that I didnt stay with a student host for my interviews, and I feel that I dont know the student life there as well as I do with other schools

Yes, you would be taking away a student host from people who do not live in the area.

Anyone know how many are matching this year at UTSW? Last year it was 2 and the year before it was 0.

Just wondering if people had an inside track on this one.
