For people who havent had their status change post interview, it is because the director has been out of office. It should take place within the next few days. I talked to Cary today.

Did they elaborate on their "method" of selecting people off of the WL at all? I have always wondered how they take people out of WL!

Of course not....why would they want to finally explain what nobody really understands? Lol. To be honest I really didn't expect any elaboration....They're pretty clear that they can't tell you anything except that the list isn't ranked. I didn't ask too many questions either cuz I didn't want to seem remotely like I was asking anything I should not ask...like how many ppl are on the waitlist???? Honestly, I don't know how they do it and it is seriously driving me crazy. Oh, actually I forgot to say that I was told that you can write a LOI every few weeks or so....

For starters, I'd be surprised if they didn't look at an applicant's other acceptances or lack-there-of which is a good indicator of whether the person will go to the school or not.

Interesting thought... hopefully we will find out soon! May 15th is rapidly approaching!

I don't believe UVM knows (unless you've explicitly informed them) what other acceptances you may/may not be holding.

Untrue. All schools you've been accepted to have access to your other acceptances in February. In April ALL schools have access to all other acceptances you hare holding.

How would they get this access? I can understand them seeing where you choose on May 15th but this seems a little difficult to believe. Can you provide a reference for this?

This statement describes specific uses of personal information as it pertains to AMCAS applicants and medical students. The AAMC disseminates application information to medical schools to which you have applied. The AAMC also shares acceptance information across schools in order to assist medical schools' adherence to AAMC recommendations. This acceptance data is shared as follows:
• Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if applicable.
• Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by the medical school.

....it should be noted, however, that schools cannot see which waitlists you may or may not be on. Hope this info helps.

So if I have multiple acceptances, schools I am wailisted at are less likely to accept me?

I've wondered about that myself - whether holding an acceptance at a different school vs WL-only might affect the likelihood of being selected for a position in the class.

I saw your post in another [interesting] thread about that same topic and there didn't seem to be much of a consensus in the end, even with LizzyM's input. Have you come across anything since then that might lead you to sway toward one side?

No, unfortunately I haven't come across any more information on the topic 🙁, and you're right, even LizzyM didn't know the answer to this either. My gut tells me that if you have multiple acceptances then that can only be seen as a good thing--in effect it means you're a desirable, sought after candidate (at least in medical school terms). Then again, schools are so concerned with preserving their yield, who knows!!!!

I don't think that's necessarily true.

But when you think about it, that's still a good problem to have, no?

Ah, the old George-Costanza-Wedding-Ring-Experiment conundrum. It's maddening! 😛

haven't seen that episode but let me guess...george isnt sure whether he should wear a wedding ring to seem more desirable to potential female suitors (a wedding ring must mean someone loves him, right?) but on the the hand it might put off suitors because they believe him to be married?

While I think this is useful information, I highly doubt that any school would go to actually access this information. The admissions process is already convoluted and time consuming enough for them to look at what other schools have accepted you. In my opinion, UVM gauge´s an applicant´s interest through letters that you write to the office. They mention this in all of their communication, in addition to mentioning it at the end of the interview as well. For those who have interviewed and haven´t written any letters, write them! Good luck all 🙂

One can only hope. I began writing letters after I was placed on the OOS WL in late November (Interview date: Nov 1, WL Nov 21). Thus far I have sent three very detailed, sincere LOI's spaced out by a couple of months. I absolutely want UVM to know that they're my top choice, but at the same time I can imagine that it's also possible to cross the Annoyance County line into Seemingdesperateville by over inundating the admissions office.

Wow, I never realized that schools have access to this information...

I have sent only one LOI so far (a few weeks ago) and have been wondering if I should send a follow up. They seem to like to see that you're interested in UVM, but I definitely don't want to end up in "Seemingdesperateville"...:xf::xf:

lolololol I thought I was the only desperate one....I was also very concerned about crossing the Annoyance County line. I have sent two love letters to UVM since I interviewed in February. This must be what unrequited love feels like. UVM is my top choice too but I'm beginning to think maybe I should love who loves me and go to another school lol....

Unfortunately I'm a glutton for punishment and I'm willing to give them one last chance! Hopefully third time's the charm...

Just received a status update that reads:

"Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We will be contacting you shortly regarding the status of your application. "

Anyone else? Interviewed April

Not me....Interviewed in February and I still have the same old message...

+1 :xf:

So when I interviewed I somebody mentioned something about everyone going through the waitlist and then being accepted. Has anyone heard anything like that? Or, given that it is almost May do you think that later interviewees may still receive an outright acceptance.

I heard the same thing at my interview in October and in November I was Waitlisted for 1 hr than accepted

I'm going to "second look" this weekend, anyone else? I know they have activities planned for most of the day on Saturday. Suggestions for what/where to explore Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday evening? Looking forward to meeting some of you!

In the [statistically unlikely] event that good news arrives between now and this weekend, I'll definitely be there.

I will be there. You should check out Magic Hat brewery (if you like beer). Church street is a great place to explore too.

Nice! I am a big beer drinker and I do like Magic Hat. I will check it out. Thanks!

I talked to the office on Tuesday. She said that there could be an update as soon as Wednesday (yesterday) but "almost certainly by Friday".

I have officially lost my cool.

I've been on the OOS waitlist since the third week of February I think...Same old message....It hasn't changed from "At a recent meeting of the Committee on Admissions your complete application was carefully reviewed...."

Seriously, I want to know NOW!

I called on Monday and the person I spoke to said between now and May 15.....I don't want to raise my hopes and expect anything by Friday cuz if I do and nothing happens I swear I'm gonna shave my head bald.

Me + bald probably = scarey.....

Ahhh, I should have specified that I was interviewed in March so this was my first post-interview review by the committee. Maybe that explains why we heard different things?

Random question... I guess.

Next to my current status it says "You can view your supplemental application by clicking here."

Is there a reason I'm supposed to click on it and look at that? Other than to agonize over my idiotic spelling error that I can no longer change?

Hmmm, don't have that link when I log in to check my status. Just the "Carefully reviewed...OOA waitlist for qualified/alternate candidates..." letter.

Is the appearance of that link a recent change for you?
