Eeeeep speeding tickets? 🙁 I live in California and do a lot of driving, like commuting 2 hours to work, driving 6 hours home from college etc., and well a speeding ticket once in a while has been kinda unavoidable. Am I going to look like a terribly irresponsible person? 🙁

Anyone in the pool have multiple speeding tickets?

I think it's very minor. I don't know why they would ask for speeding ticket, maybe to judge self-control? Maybe they can't discern speeding tickets from other citations on background checks?

No speeding tickets for me 🙂!

I clicked "yes" for the adverse judgment question as a result of a traffic citation which found me liable for a traffic accident. Should I have explained that in the "speeding ticket" box? I just don't want them to think that I committed a crime or misdemeanor. I didn't have to appear before a court or anything, it was just a citation.

I have a letter packet uploaded to amcas containing my committee letter, along with other letters. UVM mentions to not have more than 4 letters...Yeaaaa I'm slightly over limit.

Oh man, I had almost completely forgotten about this but I got a 'Disturbing the Peace' infraction for having a water balloon fight with my friends outside our house which was silly because it was before our city's noise ordinance even took effect (which is midnight). Should I even bother applying? I look terrible with 3 speeding tickets and a disturbing the peace!

Sarcasm, I dearly hope.

I had assumed that it is because Vermont is very diffuse, and most people require a car. They don't want people that are liabilities on the road. It is just a guess, though.

Small pooled today. App complete 07/21. :xf:

Did anyone receive a secondary before being verified?

Pooled as well today, submitted 7/20

pooled today, same as above poster on submission date. um...has anyone not been pooled?

i don't think they are going in order because I was complete before docbrill 7/14/11. so don't assume just yet...

^ Yeah, I agree. It doesn't look like they pool in order.

yeah. no pooláge here. I believe i submitted around 7/19. lame. oh well...

UVM has put my application on hold awaiting my latest MCAT scores (due out early Sept.). This is a retake for me (I took the MCAT last year) so I was really hoping they wouldn't wait.

Pooled today, yay! I was getting worried. Marked complete 7/20.

GAH I don't remember when I was complete, pretty sure it was early July though... and I'm still not pooled. If they've already reviewed my file, would my status have changed? Or will it remain in the "preliminary review...6-8 weeks" status indefinitely. 🙁:scared:

Looks like interview invites may start going out tomorrow or Monday, if they are still on the same schedule as last year.

When picking the biology prereqs, do we have to pick the "general biology I and II" classes or can we pick any 6 bio credits +2 lab credits that are not botany or biochem?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know if Vermont has GPA cutoffs? Also, are they friendly towards SMPs? I have a 3.4 cum (3.4 sci) from an Ivy (although I am totally aware that means basically nothing), and I did an SMP and got a 3.75. 31 MCAT.

So , I know, not ideal, but Vermont is my first choice (my very, very, very top choice) and I am hoping I'm not going to get screened out based on my undergrad GPA.

Also, does anyone send letters of intent pre-interview invite? I guess I just wanted a place to express the fact that I am interested in rural medicine and that I specifically want to practice in Vermont. I'm OOS, so I'm worried because there is really no place to express that in the secondary. Should I write anything about this in the 'additional information section', or is that for other stuff?

Thanks in advance to anyone that replies! Really appreciate advice.

:highfive:

You can be sure that their minimum GPA requirements are not above 3.4. I can't find it on the website, but I am quite sure of this. Anyone know the lower 10% of accepted students from last year?

FINALLLYYYYYY POOLED. Thank you Vermont! woohoo! If you guys haven't been pooled, don't worry, it took me forever! 😀😀

According to the MSAR the 10th percentile GPA was 3.44 and 90th was 3.94.

there are students here with GPA numbers in your ballpark. There was at least one person who interviewed here last year with a uGPA around 3.0. So yes, apply! The place to talk about your specific interest in Vermont and UVM is indeed the 'additional information' section. I would suggest being as concrete as possible about your connections to the state and your reasons for wanting to attend school here.

Pooled! I think i was complete around...7/21? not sure.
Welcome!

So, everyone who is granted an interview is pooled initially? Or are people pooled for review later in the cycle? Does anyone know?

Thanks!

do we know anything about the likelihood of interviews from the pooled peeps?

I guess i could look it up from last year's thread...😛

almost all applicants that are granted interviews will be pooled first. almost all applicants who are accepted will be wait listed first.... it's a UVM thing.....
😀

I hate to burst your bubble, but I think everyone that submits a secondary eventually gets pooled. I think they just want to justify taking our money 🙂.

Finally pooled whether it means anything or not. Interview invites were already going out this time last year. Oh how they love keeping us in suspense....

Hey guys!

Got 1 speeding ticket (one of 2 AAA recognized "Traffic Traps" in the Southeast, because the city makes the majority of its revenue off of traffic citations - ugggh) and listed that under tickets.

What about other traffic violations? Do those count? And do we abide by the 5 year rule with those?

FYI: >5 years ago, I got a ticket in my parent's gated neighbourhood for not coming to a complete stop at at stop sign (d'oh!); within 5 years ago a cop tried to give me a ticket for being on my cell phone and "not paying attention," which I challenged (since there are no are no cell phone bans in my state) - the judge made me pay the fine to "teach me a lesson" about paying attention but didn't put any points of my license

Do these count as adverse judgments? I'm guessing I should call admissions.

When I spoke to the admissions office,t hey said that traffic violations should be detailed under the traffic violations heading, but do not need to be considered "adverse judgments".

Thanks for the quick response!

Man I'm hoping they don't care about the speeding tickets question. I think I may have got 4 instead of 3 🙁. Still waiting to be pooled. Submitted secondary 2 weeks ago.
