Accepted off the OOS wait list!! Reapplicant, interviewed late September.

Accepted off of the OOS waitlist after being on it for less than 2 hours...YAY YAY YAY I LOVERMONT!

Since I have not heard anything today it looks like I'm still on the OOS WL

 Thanks for the warm words. FWIW I think there are a ton of great writers on this board, yourself and many others included. Reading posts by guys like GravityWave makes me think that my scribblings are comparatively poop.

I've sent two letters of interest since being added to the WL in late November (one of which was a letter of intent sent ~1.5 weeks ago), and crossed all crossable appendages so here's to hoping for the best. :xf:

😳

congrats to all those accepted! remember to make sure your FAFSA is in by March 1. for those waitlisted, there is still plenty of time. lots of waitlist action happens in May and June, and I have a classmate who was accepted the week before orientation.

Thanks for the encouragment! This is my second year on the UVM waitlist and I needed a little pick-me-up today.

Thanks gravitywave! I didn't get in until July 29th, 2011 and I hadn't even interviewed at UVM at this time last year!!! Hang in there 🙂

If you're on the OOS waitlist it really really helps to send letters of interest, too....at least in my experience 🙂

Congrats, new acceptees!

I got my official admissions packet last week after my background check cleared, and it had a date for second look - April 28th. FYI.

Does anyone know when the next adcom meeting is? Thanks!

Whew, just submitted my FAFSA! Is there really nothing more that I need to do for now for UVM? Their website makes it seem as though selecting the University of Vermont FAFSA code was all I needed to do to apply for financial aid:
http://www.uvm.edu/~stdfinsv/?Page=financialaid.html&SM=finaidmenu.html
yet with all the other separate applications and needaccess agony I have to fill out for other schools, it seems too good to be true. I also tend to lose my mail... Could anyone reassure/enlighten me? Thanks!

I'm in the same boat, but included the info. Many schools require some form of parental information on the FAFSA for institutional aid...it's not required for federal aid. Some schools will accept alternate documentation if you do not provide it on the FAFSA, but I would check with UVM (and any other schools you're considering) to make sure. I believe you can correct your FAFSA online.

Quick FAFSA question:

Did you guys include parental information on the form? I skipped that part (my parents have no money to support my education) but read that schools do look at this information. Is there a way to add the info and resubmit the FAFSA? Is that worth doing or does it not matter in my case?

Thanks in advance.

UVM requires parent information on the FAFSA. If your parents don't h e any money to contribute to your education, then this will only help you!

Congrats Crazy-- are they into April yet?

My interview was for March 13th. They didn't give me a choice so I'm unsure if they handed out later dates.

Hey everybody,

I interviewed here in early November, was wait-listed until Jan 13, and that's when I was accepted. In terms of my applications, UVM is my top choice for several reasons (many of which are mentioned in past posts)! I'm really excited about joining the Class of 2016.

If it's any reassurance to those small pooled or unfortunately denied admission, I am a reapplicant, and I feel that UVM, like a few other select schools, likes non-trad applicants. I am also OOS, but I don't know how that plays in their application decisions. If you think you will need to reapply - then don't lose hope! I was on the same boat last year, but I tried again and was fortunate to be admitted to this excellent school. That's my 2 cents.

I do have a few questions regarding the housing situation. Hemeresearcher was kind enough to answer several of my questions about housing, but I had a few more. Can anyone help out? I'll PM you.

Thanks!

DaBoss

Got rejected after being small pooled. Was in the process of writing an update/interest letter too...

Whoa I just checked out world news and report and 606 interviewed for 187 accepted. 1 in 3 isn't bad odds.

Just so everyone know, I spoke with admissions about a week ago, and they said that nearly every person who is eventually accepted is waitlisted for a varying amount of time first (could be hours, could be months)--it's just how they do things. They said it is very rare and unlikely for someone to be outright accepted after the interview.

I remember checking my status frantically after my interview - apparently, I got accepted right off the bat. UVM is an awesome place, and their acceptance packet comes with a sweet surprise. 😀

Like another person said, you need to include parental information if you want to be considered for need-based grants/loans. Since your parents have no money, you'd probably qualify for need-based grants/loans, so you definitely should include parental information.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Hemeresearcher! If I may ask a somewhat personal question; how difficult was it for you to find housing and relocate to Burlington in the short time between your acceptance and the start of orientation? [assuming you didn't already live in the area beforehand]. Feel free to answer by PM if you would rather not post publicly.

flights are kinda expensive! haha so Im flying in a day before my interview and leaving a day later... anyone suggest any good places to stay? I was thinking la quinta?

I stayed there. Really have no complaints whatsoever.

Pre-interview rejection today, showing in the online portal only. (No email notification.)

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I actually lived in an extended-stay hotel for a few months while I bought a condo in Burlington. I was going to crash on a friend's couch, but I have two cats (one of whom has epilepsy) and I didn't want to burden any of my friends for that long! I know that sounds really expensive, but the hotel was about $600 cheaper than what I was paying per month for a 250 square foot studio apartment in Manhattan prior to moving here. I was able to buy a fixer-upper condo for practically what I would have had to put down on a condo in Manhattan and my morgtage payment with taxes is still a lot cheaper than what I was paying in Manhattan.

I really am the luckiest girl in the entire world to have gotten in to UVM and to have the family support to be able to make it happen on such short notice. I never would have been able to do this without my family. I gave one week of notice for leaving my job and worked an 80 hour work week. I ended up writing a 23 page single-spaced document for my replacement of everything I was working on. I packed my apartment in 12 hours and got to Burlington in the middle of the night. I didn't even empty out the fridge or finish packing! My parents and sister were kind enough to use several weekends to finish moving me out. Your post prompted me to call my parents and remind them of how much I appreciate them!

This story warms my heart. 🙂 You are so lucky to have such a supportive family!

Thanks Poww! I really am lucky. I know it has been six months since I started med school, but I still can't believe I got in here! I'm really pulling for you guys 🙂

Received an interview invite today for 2/23! Sent a LOI and updated fall transcript as well!

The Hilton Burlington was great. If you mention that you are a prospective student for the University of Vermont College of Medicine the room rates become very affordable. Also, they will shuttle you to and from the campus for free, as well as other places throughout Burlington. Good luck!

Did you guys receive an email about the II? I just checked my status page and found out I was offered an interview but there's no link to the interview dates. Is anyone else having this issue?
