I am leaving in just a few hours for my first vacation since 2008 (haven't worked less than 60+ hours/wk since I can remember) so I may be away from email until the middle of next week...which might not be a bad thing.

I don't think being immersed in research is going to hurt you! Up until November of 2010 I was sure I wanted to be an ecologist and thus had spent all of my time in academic research, not even remotely related to medical sciences. I've been working in academic ecology through the whole med school application process and UVM took me! I'm not trying to brag here, I just wanted to let you know that I was also immersed in academic research (with minimal clinical volunteering, even, since I just decided late in 2010 that I was interested in medicine), and was accepted, so you shouldn't lose hope on that account! I hope you get in!
 
How I feel when I get an email then see its not from UVM... :lame:

Hey guys! First time poster and SDN member 🙂 Couldn't stand the waitlist message any longer and I had to figure out what was going on so here I am =D. When I interviewed in late March I asked about roughly how many seats were open and was told that there were a good 40-something acceptances left to give. Add those with all the withdrawals, there should be well over 50. Hoping we get some OOS love today :xf::xf::xf:

I hope that's true. I did a little snooping around and there are already 96 members in the fb group. :/

It doesn't sound silly. I make an effort to answer questions and help out when I can because I wasn't accepted off of UVM's waitlist until July 29th! I remember how it feels to be in your shoes and I really truly feel for all of you. I wish I could do more to help. I am really pulling for you guys 🙂

Also, to be more exact I recognize at least 36 people as current students. There are a couple more people I think that are 3rd and 4th years who joined to post housing. I hope this helps!

Couldn't have said it any better! I'll join the dance party! I'm seriously crossing my fingers for everyone, I really hope you get in!! And soon, too, so the wait doesn't totally kill you. But don't get discouraged, in previous years, people were accepted off the waitlists throughout the whole summer, so there's plenty of time! Really hope to meet and hang with you all next year!

With the OOS acceptances they sent out on May 16th, they offered us 2 weeks to decide and send in the 100$ deposit to hold one's spot. As such, my guess is that it would be around June 1 that the next round would happen?

can anyone confirm if we need to accept the acceptance via regular mail or is email fine? I did both just in case.. does the status portal change after they acknowledge receipt of your confirmation?

I called the Admissions Office to ask about it and was told that an email confirmation is fine. I sent mine via email
 
Yes the status portal should change. You will also get another super cool packet in the mail with a Maple Syrup Lollipop! Mmmmmmmm..

Thanks very much for the words of encouragement. Hope to have the privilege of becoming classmates with you in the coming months. 🙂

The past week away from the lab has helped to clear my head and relax me a little bit. (although the TSA losing my laptop while going through security didn't help with the relaxation part, ha). Pretty sure that it was the first time I haven't had email/internet/phone access for such a long period since I was in high school in the mid-to-late nineties - anxiety invoking at first, then super liberating. Was hoping to come home to an email from UVM, but at least the data-blackout forced me from compulsively checking SDN and the OAC. Got to squeeze in a bit of surfing too. 😛

Good luck to all still hanging out with me on the OOS WL. :xf:

In order to accept the offer of admissions, did you reply back to the same e-mail that sent the acceptance or did you respond to a different e-mail address? Did they send a confirmation e-mail?

Also, does the portal change after we accept or after they receive the $100 deposit?

Hey there. Just send it to the general admissions email at UVM. They will reply with a confirmation. The portal should change after a week or so of confirming attendance at UVM.
 
Yup! That's it. If you don't get a response call the office and make sure they have received your email.
 
If anyone is interested, I'm going to be in Burlington this week. A couple of future classmates and I are going to meet up Tuesday night at 8p for coffee. PM me if you are down!

Just got accepted! OOS applicant. I absolutely cannot believe it. Currently out celebrating my best friend's birthday when I got the email. Will definitely be accepting the position and joining the class of 2012.

Best of luck to all still on the waiting list. This was an extremely long process for me as a non-traditional applicant, so I know what you're all going through.

I've been following this thread all year... I wanted to say I'm really happy for you, NMonte! You've been so eager to attend from the very beginning and it has shown in every post. Awesome work. Good luck to the rest of you waiting!

It's hilarious because I was with some folks tonight in Burlington and I was like: I really hope NMonte gets accepted and then I find this message. How awesome!! I'm happier for you than I was about my own admission. MAJOR CONGRATS DUDE!! Can't wait to meet you in person!
 
Hey guys! I was on the waitlist last year, didnt get in...decided I would rather forfeit going to another school so i could try to get into to UVM, where I really wanted to go! Just got off the waitlist today around 7! Cant wait to meet all my new classmates, and good luck to those of you who are still waiting! NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted today!!!!! Today I was driving home after work and was thinking that it was only two weeks ago that I received my letter of acceptance.. It is such a great feeling to see all your efforts come to fruition and to know that you would be going to the school of your choice!!!! To those of you who are still waiting, just hang in there and DON'T GIVE UP THE FIGHT!!!
