^^^all your questions would be answered if you actually read through this thread

You are right, i had to use the find function to get through the density of the posts.

Well hopefully my post is pretty clear and ppl won't have to search very far to read it...

I got the MAY status on aug 2 and still no response. I talked to a lady in the admissions office today and she said it can take 1 or even 2 months to get an answer....

yea join the club. i got the "may" status july 30th after submitting july 25th and haven't heard diddly squat yet.

In 17 days it will have been 2 months for me 😉.

Ok so I just received the secondary app (a little late, but I'm hoping to finish it this weekend) and after perusing VCU's website I can't say that I'm inspired. Nothing grabs me as unique or compelling really. So what's so great about VCU??

I'm really not looking for "answers" to the secondary, I'm genuinely interested in why VCU is a top choice for so many of you. Thanks in advance for your input and congrats to everyone who've gotten interviews so far! :luck:

Why are you going into medicine? Do you have any ideas about what type of medicine and/or patient population you would like to work with?

I'm thinking Family med (but not committed to it enough at this point for fmSTAT to be a real draw), Peds, Neurology, possibly Oncology...still a little all over the place haha

i talked about their mentorship programs, pauley, massey, spinal cord (i'm in a spinal cord injury lab right now), working at inova (where i was hospitalized), among other things

Thanks! After some deeper digging VCU seems pretty cool after all 🙂

Amazing faculty, great facilities, close proximity to teaching hospitals, mentorship, and of course...location (I love Richmond!) 🙂

If I am from out of state, is it worth it to apply here?

Since more interviews have been given to people with the "may" status can we finally assume this is better than the "further" status?

Does anyone have any advice on interviewing here? Like how many do they typically interview each year and do they ever reject post interview or do they just put you on hold for the next wave? I read 900 interview but I heard that changes. I am just trying to gauge how good of a shot I have with an OOS interview...I really want to attend here!

According to medicalschoolinusa:-
In-state admissions data 824 applied, 408 interviewed, 205 were accepted, 111 enrolled
Out-of-state admissions data 5330 applied, 448 interviewed, 229 were accepted, 81 enrolled

They tend to accept 50 % of who they interview. However, Everyone goes interview --> Acceptance/hold --> acceptance/rejection/waitlist. They don't outright reject you unless you totally bombed the interview. They set up scores and tend to rank candidates. This is definitely my first priority school especially since I'm from VA so I'm hoping for the best!

Does anyone know the difference, if any, between the "Your M.D. application is complete..." status and the "Your file is complete, and has been forwarded to the Admissions Committee for further decision" status?

Good luck to all!

lolwut. Yesterday my status was "Your M.D. file is now complete. The Admissions Committee will now do a comprehensive review of your application." Then it changed to "Your file is complete, and has been forwarded to the Admissions Committee for further decision" Now it's back to the first status. 😕

I've been in the same situation. Took them forever to get my lor's, but been complete since 8/19. I keep getting status update emails switching between the two complete statuses

I don't understand why my app status still says incomplete. I sent everything on 7/18. I tried emailing admissions office and even director of admissions but never received any reply. Idk what to do!!

Interview invite today 8/26. Earliest date available was 10/26. I submitted on 7/10 and received the MAY status on 7/25.

Good luck to everyone! The more I learned about VCU, the more I liked it.

is the site down right now? I can't get access to it...

Does anyone know if we can send additional letters of recommendation besides the 2 science and 1 non-science?

You figure out the problem yet? Definitely check that you have met the science/non-science LOR requirements. My status was incomplete, because they had mistakenly marked one of my science LOR as non-science. I called the admissions office, and they took care of it the next day. If they don't answer just leave them a message, they'll get back to you. Emails don't seem to work with them, at least for me.

put on hold for grades..does that happen frequently?

so are we supposed to do anything special (i.e. email them) if we're nearing our 30 days since getting the "may" status?

I spoke to them on the phone and they said it can take one even two months, so i would hold off until the end of sept or early october before i email them.

How many days did it take for VCU to say they had received your letters of recommendation after you had released them from AMCAS?

So I submitted my secondary on August 19th, but I am still marked incomplete. When I called them, they said they needed a copy of my permanent resident card. I scanned and sent it as an email, but still incomplete. WTH?

Good to know . . . I've had "May" status since July 22.

Although, I "may" be one of those people they say they just can't get to. 😀

I would also like to know. It's been over two weeks and VCU still has not marked them as received for me.

I know someone has asked this but I can't seem to find it: how long from "application under review" until they assign you a priority score and give you a new status?

It took between two and three weeks for me. I ended up contacting the admissions office because I was getting concerned too but they said they were just a bit backed up processing everything due to the craziness of orientation at the beginning of the month.

I was complete 8/3 and still haven't received a priority score either.

I would email them. I did so 3 weeks after my letters were uploaded to amcas because they still hadn't marked me complete, and within a day they udated my status and soon after gave me a priority score

I have a problem with copy and paste. I did my essay on Word and saved it as txt in Notepad, but when I copy and paste from notepad onto the essay space in the application, it does not show indentation and just shows up as one chunk of paragraph. Any idea? Thanks!

everyone's essay showed up like that. I think the consensus was that the adcom will see it in the correct indented format, so just submit it as is

I tried the 'print' page and the essay still shows up as one block instead of several paragraphs. I am not sure the adcom will have different format when they review our printed app on their table.

If you submit your letters from AMCAS to VCU before the deadline but VCU takes a long time to process your letters, such that the letters are processed after the deadline, does that mean they will still close your file?

This would seem a bit unfair as no one can really predict how long it would take them to process the letters.

If you use word's indentation feature through the ruler, the indentation will appear (ie not pressing tab to indent, but sliding over the triangular icon to indent first line of a paragraph.:luck:

Hello all!

I previously had option 3 of the status updates (E-mailed in July), and I was offered an interview this past August. So the great news is that for those of you who received options 2 or 3 as status updates, I definitely would not give up hope! 🙂

I was wondering - is anyone else scheduled to be interviewed soon? Or have any of you already finished your interview yet?

This is my first (and only so far) of the season, and I am very nervous!

Thank you.

I got this message

"Your complete application has been considered carefully by the Admissions Committee, and we regret that we are unable to offer you a position in the class beginning in August 2012. The Committee understands the disappointing nature of their decision and does NOT offer reasons for this action but does suggest that you consult with your pre-med advisor to discuss the possibility for improvement of your application.

We wish you the very best of success with your alternate plans."

Submitted the secondary August 26 and got this message August 31. Does this mean I was too late to submit or maybe I don't need their grades or mcat requirement?
