Depends. Mine was about half an hour, though someone else told me theirs was literally five. It depends on who you have.

Five? I would die.

Both my faculty and student were a half hour, very laid back.
I thought the interview day was ok. They never really tried to sell the school and why we should go there. On my day we didn't even have the dean talk to us.

Five? I would die.
"Hi, DA, I'm Doctor So and So. Tell my why you chose Drexel."
--one minute response--
"Those are definitely good reasons to choose Drexel, I must say. So, I see you have...let's say...an "iffy" relationship with your father. Tell me a little more about your time in Cali."
--3 minutes into my response: *BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP* ---
"Well DA, I'm terribly sorry, but I just got paged to the OR. I'm sure you understand. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day."

Hahaha This would actually be wonderful.

Are we talking minutes or hours though? When I first ready AiyaTuc's post, I thought the five was referring to hours, but now it makes much more sense if it was minutes.

Hehehe, yeah it so would. I would literally be that little baby.

Totally talking minutes, I didn't even consider it being hours. That'd be like Guantanamo Bay-level interrogation. *shudder*

If anyone is willing to help out, I have an interview coming up and am researching the school. I like the option of PIL, but am looking for other things that makes Drexel unique. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!!!

Well, Odinson, I found that the facilities there are very new and up-to-date. Additionally, it's in a fantastic location, where you can get a taste of the Philadelphia city life without actually having to live in the (expensive) city. The students there are also very diverse, and everyone I met was extremely down-to-earth.

These seem like minor points, but I think collectively they add up to a pretty substantial part of a decision to go/not to go.

Sorry if this has been asked, but is it 1 student and 1 MD or is it 2 MDs?

"Are you sure that's why you want to be a doctor? Let's see if you change your mind after a little water boarding..."

Thanks!! And awesome that you knew who Donald Blake was haha. I also noticed that we applied to a lot of the same schools! I feel like I see you in every thread I go to.

How long is each interview?

I interviewed there last week, my student interview was about half an hour. I was one of the interviewees that had to do my faculty interview at Hahnemann Hospital (Somewhat unorganized to find the shuttle/hospital/office yourself). Unfortunately the physician interviewing us was about 45 minutes late and had to interview four people in about an hour, so it wasn't ideal. But the bottom line is that it is kind of variable. My opinion is that having an interview on the main campus would be "less stressful" but having an interview at the hospital gives you an ideal for how the students commute back and forth and you get to see the facility.

Drexel was entirely underwhelming.. nothing stood out. 70 minute faculty interview which lead to my student interview lasting only 15min because they had class.

Plus I had to wait an hour and a half for my interview after the tour ended.. lecture halls are weak, cafeteria equally weak, gross anatomy lab seemed like it would be overly crowded when people are in there, and the campus overall just felt... blah.

I applied a month ago and just barely received a secondary....what does this mean?

Also, I have below average stats yet great extracurriculars and essays. Do I have a shot this late in the game? Is drexel rolling admissions?

I think Drexel is just slow with secondaries. It was one of, if not the last secondaries I received. Check my mdapps to see exactly how long it took after being verified.

II INVITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Completed 8/21 OOS 3.8 sGPA, MCAT: 29 hopefully my terribad stats gives other people hope 🙂

Also last year they took FOREVER as well. They seem to have a history with this sort of thing haha

Finally got the secondary and submitted. 🙂

How long does it take to be complete?

I'm curious, what does everyone's application status say?

Mine currently says "Your file is complete and will be reviewed"

I am nearly certain the status said something different a few days ago...

FWIW my application was complete 8/31

yea mine used to say "no decision is currently available" and today it says "your file is complete and will be reviewed" even though I got to complete email on 9/5

You know what...be happy you got an interview! Some of us would die just to get ONE interview.

Dude, he is not saying that he would not gladly go there. He is giving his honest impression of the school and a lot of us appreciate it. Not everything in life is sugar-coated.

Sorry bro. I'm grateful, but that doesn't mean i have to like the school.

Welcome to most schools that weren't built in the past 10-15 years.

LOL. Strong review bro. Totally felt like I was there right next to you.

Could a current student talk a bit more about IFM? i.e. how many classes at a time, class hours, how often exams are, are there a bunch of exams at one time or are they spread out, etc. Thanks!

I feel like I needed to say something to defend my school after MedPR's post:

To MedPR:
That sucks about your bad interview day. 70 minute faculty interview is VERY atypical. Most usually last only 30 minutes. I'm sorry about your student interviewer. They shouldn't have even been the one to interview you if they were going to class within 15 minutes (most of us do it over lunch or skip our 1pm class). We are told to have an opening of at least 30 minutes before interviewing.

We have two lecture halls because that is all we need. One for year 1 and one for year 2. It may have seemed slightly small to you, but not everyone goes to class every day (many people find it much better to watch the videos of lecture on their own time) and they are getting slightly renovated over Xmas break. Also, we have another room that fits the entire class during exams. I will agree on the cafeteria, but it is constantly being improved and most people bring their own lunches and eat throughout the school so it is not an issue to us at all.

In terms of the gross anatomy lab, I wholeheartedly disagree. For IFM, there are 5 to 6 of us per table. The tables may seem close together to you, but we have never had a single problem bumping into the groups around us. Plus, you want the tables close together. All the bodies we work with come in different sizes and shapes. To be able to walk around quickly and see these different bodies and how they differ from yours is very important in a gross anatomy course.

While your opinion of the campus is entirely your own (but may have been amplified by the bad interview experience) I like the campus. It has a great number of study areas, and it is easy to get between different areas of the school quickly. Good luck to you MedPR.

For the rest of you who are reading this post, my advice is to keep an open mind. Don't go into the interview thinking he said this and she said that about the school. Walk in with a blank slate and take everything in. Think to yourself, will I be able to study here? Will I be able to learn here? Will I be happy here? There are a ton of other questions of course, but if you can answer those three without any initial biases, you will be a lot better off in determining if a school is a right fit for you.

Everything really depends on the module that we are on. Generally we are there 9-3, but sometimes it can be 8-430. Classes themselves are 50 minutes, 80 minutes, two hours with a ten minute break in the middle. From what I've seen so far, there are exams generally at the end of each module or second module. For the first module we had 3 courses, were only tested on two, and had one exam after the first two weeks. The second module (3.5 weeks later) was four courses and we had two exams and one microanatomy practical.

I am in IFM 1 and we are in our third module. Since this module doesn't have any exams now, we have a couple quizzes. Mid october we will have a gross anatomy exam and practica. At the end of October, we will have 3 exams in one week (M,W,F) covering 7 courses and two modules. That seems like a lot in one week, but it is not unlike finals during undergrad. What is nice about these exam weeks is that the only thing scheduled are the exams. No class that week. It seems tough to do "exam weeks" and it is, but once my class gets through them, we go out and celebrate together which I think is really great. I hope that helps.

The older buildings dont bother me at all, the stains on lecture hall chairs are another story though. Just bc a building is old doesnt mean the things in the building need to look filthy and neglected.

Yea I definitely think this school will be a great fit for many people. I love the curriculum amd the students seemed nice and happy. I just happen to be big on the little things and the little things at Drexel don't agree with me.

Maybe my student interviewer just didn't like me but they said they had class at 1, which didn't make sense to me bc they are a PIL M1 and I thought the M1s meet MWF...

Edit: wait nevermind. I interviewed on friday, not thursday. Lol

The chairs are going to be completely redone over Xmas break. Actually, I believe even the chairs in student used areas are going to be redone.

All of us first years(both PIL and IFM) had a mandatory professionalism meeting at 1. I interviewed an applicant on Friday, but made sure I got started early. Your 70 minute faculty interview (how did you talk that long) didn't help with that situation. I think I know who you are. I saw a PIL student walking around an applicant just before our meeting. Was that you?

Yea I know my student interview ran short because the faculty one went so long. There were a few other people who interviewed before me (with a different interviewer) and they were all done in 30-35 minutes.

And yea, that probably was me. She walked me back to the admissions office just before 1. She was really nice about me being "late" and not really having much time to interview.

So back to my faculty interview. I had to give 3 examples of the following. It actually wouldn't have taken so long except my interviewer basically told me "that answer isn't good enough" everytime I gave one. For example, one of the things I said I liked about Drexel was the opportunity to see PIL/IFM first hand and pick the one I thought fit me best. She said something like "It shouldn't matter which pathway you choose. As a physician you need to be able to learn in many different ways and so you should be able to do either as a medical student. There are other schools that let you pick your pathway so that's not unique about Drexel. I want to know things you think are unique to Drexel only."

1. Why I want to be a physician.
2. Why Drexel.
3. Why Drexel should pick me.

One example of:
4. A time (during shadowing) when I observed good ethical behavior.
5. A time (during shadowing) when I observed bad ethical behavior.

Several other questions, but pretty typical for the most part.

Oh and she also grilled me about my essay answer. The answer she wanted me to give was a total gunner-status answer. She wanted me to get my classmate in trouble so that I would look better and get a higher grade in the class.

Seriously it felt like I was being trolled by someone on SDN the entire time.

Edit: If for whatever reason this faculty member is on SDN, I'm sure she could identify me from this post, but whatever.

Edit 2: Some things I do like about Drexel.
1. Curriculum
2. Variation in available rotation sites for M3
3. Neighborhood
4. Vicinity to downtown/center city/whatever it's called. Not too close, but not too far either.
5. Recorded lectures
6. One building campus
7. Apparently a lot of research opportunities.

Overall it seems like a good place to be if the things I don't like about it are not high on your list of importance.

In the first 2 years there are generally 3-6 hours of lecture per day (usually 5). Sometimes lectures are replaced by labs. Some days you'll hav the same number of lectures and then courses like physician and patient (1st yr) or physical diagnosis (2nd yr) at times later in the day.

1st year has 30 exam days (this is counting finals) - this doesn't count quizzes and practicals for which there are an additional 13 days.
2nd year has 20 exam days (this is counting finals) and no quizzes.

It's grueling in the first year, but by the second year the exams almost feel like a breeze.

There are a few small papers to be written in both years, which are pretty easy to pass with only a little effort. Also a few small presentations, which aren't much of a problem.

(3rd year is so much better than the first two.)

I was looking over the interview feedback and one of the comments said theres a free shuttle from center city to the medical college. However, the comment was from a few years back, can any of the current students let me know if this is still the case?

True. You have to be a student to use it, though. In fact, you have to use the shuttle if you have an interview at Hahnemann.

Yup, they give you a pass for it if you have an interview at hahnemann

Question for everybody. Do you guys being anything to the interviews? Like. Resume or something?

That's what I say, but I heard some people bring stuff. I just bring something to take notes in.

I've seen people bring folders/briefcases to hold stuff in. I don't bring anything and it hasn't been a problem in any of my interviews so far.
