The intent of that question was to identify applicants with a compelling "humanitarian need" to attend our medical school, not a place to simply restate your interest. We'll restate the question to make it more clear. The great majority of applicants have left the question blank.

Thanks ... This is why I left it blank.

👍 Thanks doc.

Does anybody have any idea as to when interview invites may start going out?

Sorry just saw all the other "Preliminary Review Completed" comments - keep us posted if anyone gets an interview invite!

Would family living in the area be a reason that falls under this category?

I wrote about this and that I grew up in Boca. I thought the question was a little vague, so I went with it. To me, it IS a compelling reason to want to attend.

Doubt it. Last year the earliest invites went out in October.

I was complete a while back in July. And I believe my status was preliminary review completed.

congrats! when were you guys complete?

Thank you! I completely early July.. Maybe the 13/14th. Since then my status has been review started and didn't changed for a while. I got worried and visited the office (I am a FAU undergrad) and they said its their court at that point. Good luck everyone. I have an idea of some interview questions if you want I'll post them later

What were the stats from people who got interviews?

stats are:
GPA 3.8/ sGPA 3.9
MCAT 32
In state

(I don't remember when I was complete but my prelim review was complete 9/2, FYI)

Received an interview invitation yesterday, 09/17/2012. Will anyone else here be interviewing on 10/1/2012?

According to AAMC, 729 OOS applied and only 12 OOS matriculated last year. Has anyone OOS received an interview invite yet this cycle? If so, would you mind sharing your stats?

I'm trying to decide if I should try my luck. This is the last secondary I'm sitting on and it looks like a long one.
NJ resident (OOS), 3.5 cGPA, 30 MCAT.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

I applied from OOS with a little higher GPA and a higher MCAT and I am starting to feel like I wasted my time/money. OOS seems like too much of a longshot. Boca looks awesome though.

ahh well. The secondary fee is only $30, so at that price, I can't afford not to try. 😀 Good luck to you!! maybe we can be one of the lucky 12.

Current undergrad here. AMCAS not yet verified...hoping for an interview when the waiting is over!

UF Grad but I feel your pain...this verification process takes forever. They should work weekends lol

Has anyone else who submitted very early still have "Secondary Application Complete" as their application status? That last update was on 7/8 and I haven't seen any movement to "Preliminary Review Completed". Aw fiddlesticks....

Just got a preliminary review complete this morning.. hope that means something!

Can anybody comment on how their interview went this week? I'm gonna be there next week and was hoping somebody could share their experience a bit.

Hey guys,

I'm a current student in the class of 2016. I was an OOS student that received an interview on March 27th. I contemplated not even going because the class was full at that point and I was interviewing for a wait list spot. I ended up going and getting in off of the wait list. This year it will probably be different due to increased competition. I have a feeling the wait list might not be so kind, but I'm not sure.

I had a 3.91 GPA and a 30Q MCAT. If anyone has questions about the school I would be happy to answer them. I'm also a student ambassador, so there is a good chance I might be eating lunch with you at your interviews.

Good luck.

Where else were you accepted?

Why FAU?

I did choose FAU because it was the only school I got an acceptance from. Although I really did like the faculty and the feel of the school while I was here for my interview. I probably would have accepted FAU over a couple of schools I interviewed at.

The only downside is that OOS is expensive, but it pretty much is the same way everywhere unless it is a private medical school.

I love being in Boca Raton because it is a laid back atmosphere and a lot of very reputable doctors come here to teach/retire. If you were between 2 schools, I would really take a look at yourself and how you learn. Then realize that the class size at FAU is significantly smaller than other medical schools. This provides a greater chance for leadership positions, scholarships, and fosters a closer relationship with your fellow students.

Also just recently we started being tested using Step 1 questions. All of our tests are run like the protocol for taking the step one. By the time the end of year 2 rolls around I have a feeling that everyone will be very comfortable with the question type and the testing atmosphere for the USMLE step 1.

FAU is a very new school, but while it was a satellite campus the step 1 scores were very good (in the mid 230's, which was actually higher than the U Miami students average at the time). Once the second year class takes its step 1, we will have a good gauge on how FAU compares with others schools and our reputation will start to grow.

Thanks for the input DrOwnage it was really helpful. I hope I can interview here! Sounds like a great place to spend the next 4 years studying medicine.

Would you mind explaining the events and chronology of this?

Also a current M1 so let me know if you have any questions!!! I really love this school and am so happy to be here so I can provide more information about specifics if anyone is interested!

So anyone that was wondering, I called the office today to make sure my application didn't get "lost" for some reason. It hasn't....

On a lighter note, they said they would be issuing more interview invites this week

That's good news! Did they say when this week?

No. Sorry, I didn't ask for specifics.

thanks, boomski! i've been wondering this myself.
Honestly, I wouldn't get too caught up on the preliminary review complete. Last year people had a really long time in between submission and preliminary complete (like your experiencing), while for others it was almost instantaneous. Also some others got interviews as early as 2 weeks after the preliminary complete popped up, but for others it was months. The status change that matters the most is interview invited and the following ones. Right now just try not to think about it and enjoy your last year. I know its hard (as one of the students that waited months before I got an interview invite) but it will come eventually!!! They are interviewing all the way into the end of April, and I have classmates that were even accepted off the wait list after attending one of those later interviews. Anything is possible!!

I would look at this if you are interested in what FAU was about before it became an independent medical school:

Btw people, keep in mind that CESCOM has a ranked wait list. People interviewing in March could surpass people who are already on the waiting list from an interview in October and ultimately get accepted before them. As stated above, don't lose hope and don't count yourself out if you are only interviewing for a wait list position.

I'm freaking out! :scared: I submitted my secondary already and it's under preliminary review right now. I noticed the questions that I marked yes are now no for some reason like claiming FL Residency. I checked my app so many times before submitting it, don't know what happened. I only have one submission update left and tried calling the office but no one was there. AH! can someone help?

In terms of nobody answering, this week is our site visit for LCME accreditation. All of the faculty and staff have been extremely busy with various meetings and conferences. Plus, both classes have exams this week which doesn't help. Things should be wrapping up tomorrow afternoon. I'd suggest trying again later this week.
