Hey guys - I would check out Muskegon as an airport too if you're interviewing in Grand Rapids. It's an even smaller airport than Grand Rapids, but sometimes is the cheapest option for me in the whole state (including Detroit). Connects to Chicago I believe and is about 40 minutes from downtown GR.

Does anyone know acceptance details about the ABLE program, like if its an URM oriented program or a normal one?

I'd be very interested to know this information as well. I haven't been able to find any information on this.

So far I've found 2 websites explaining how the program works (below)

http://mdadmissions.msu.edu/ABLE/able.php

https://www.msu.edu/~hcop/able.htm

And I know from reading the previous threads that you have to interview for it and they take 8-10 people but I don't know if its specifically for URM or if it's a good program and what to expect if selected.

I'm interviewing Feb 1st in GR. I'm really looking forward to it since MSU CHM is definitely my top choice after interviewing last year in EL. Let's hope I get in this cycle!

Same here.

First acceptance of the season for me... super excited 🙂 Interviewed at EL end of October! Thought I was headed to the waitlist pile since it took a while. Keep your hopes up if you're pending a response! 😀

Does anyone have any idea on the time frame for those of us on pre-interview hold? My email said no later than February but I was wondering if we should expect to hear at the beginning or end of February.

Long time lurker... first time poster... figured I'd start posting on SDN forums as a medical student/soon to be student. Accepted this past week to MSU CHM 🙂

:welcome:

Accepted this past week to MSU CHM!! Interviewed at the Grand Rapids campus back in November, and am excited to have heard back positively from them.

Congrats to those just accepted. Come join the Facebook group!!

Just interviewed here Friday!

Has anyone been able to find the 2013 decision dates??

Just offered an interview for 2/22 for EL!!!! I'm in shock right now!! I thought I was going to the reject pile since I was complete back in July! For those of you who interviewed, any tips would be helpful! Was it absolutely terrifying?

I don't think ABLE is entirely URM, but it is at least partly focused on URMs. There are 5 previous ABLE students who are currently second year students with me and some are minorities, while some are not. I don't how helpful that is for you!

Hello everyone! can anyone who has already interview share their impression of the school? Esp if youre OOS

You guys interviewing tomorrow? I'm chilling in Denver right now for a layover haha

Waiting in Boston for a layover flight to Cleveland...

Not scary at all! Everyone is super nice and they do a great job of making you feel welcome and comfortable.

My advice: take the student interview seriously--they value their students' input (which is great!).

Take a deep breath and be yourself! They wouldn't have invited you to interview if they hadn't seen something they liked!

Loved the school. The interview was very well structured and you have many opportunities to show them your personality. Good luck!

Awesome! I'm taking the plunge and moving to the south of France this summer. 'Tis the season to check off some bucket list items!
Nice, I'm sure we'll both have some stories to tell come August! Parlez-vous français? 🙂 Enjoy the artisan bread out there!

Congrats! and since you also included your mdapps profile link, you're definitely not a lurker anymore!

Question to all those who have received their PID/PAD thus far: how long did it take to get? Did you get yours already? More than 11 weeks have passed since I paid the deposit, and I haven't received it yet...

I am interviewing at MSU CHM (Grand Rapids) in February . I am actually OOS. Can anyone tell me the most economical place to stay? Also, I have been on quite a few interviews but none has been MMI. Can anyone shed some light on this. What kind of scenarios are given? Thanks in advance.....

Not sure about where to stay, as I stayed with a friend in GR. As for the scenarios, we aren't allowed to tell you: people who interviewed signed a non-disclosure agreement that says not to talk about the scenarios. I can tell you that it was really fun and chill, I liked it a lot better than the traditional interviews.

Check this link out for more info, it was really helpful: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=MMI+scenarios

1st rule of MMI club is: 😉

I stayed at the travelodge about 10 minutes south of the university. It was like 50 a night, the cheapest and highest rated. I liked it. I did have a rental car

The mmi is very interesting. It's definitely not a walk in the park as some others have been saying (in my opinion), and you will need to think fast and be able to adapt based off what they respond with. I did fine though. But in general it was pretty fun, and different. Thats all ill say, but that is pretty expected by all mmis. The student interview is really chill, my interviewer was so awesome... good luck!

I was at Best Western by the airport ($60) - it has free shuttles to/from airport, a pool, and free dinner Mon-Thur nights. I took a shuttle back to the airport on the morning of the interview to pick-up a rental car from Hertz (they had a deal that waived the underage fee) before driving into downtown GR.

I agree with you about the student interview, my interviewer gave me his email address, and we email back and forth. It's nice to know a 2nd year med student when ur in ur 1st yr.

Ditto here! My student interviewer was super nice and we still chat, too.

Thank you all for the responses. They all have been quite helpful. Best of luck this application cycle.

Yes, that helps a great deal! Any information or experiences with the program are helpful to gain some insight. Thanks bunches.

Accepted last night around 7:30 PM!!! I was so dorky on the phone! Also I had nightmares last night that it was a prank call. Yikes! This is my no.1 choice - I am going here for sure! SO excited and SO blessed! I'm always flipping through these forums to see what time people get calls, etc. so I thought I'd contribute : )

27, 3.5, i: 11/16/12

Got the acceptance call last night!! So excited!! I just interviewed on 1/18 so I was pleasantly surprised with the quick turn around! 🙂

Got a phone call last night around 7:49pm------->> ACCEPTED!

Interviewed on Jan 18th. I was surprised to hear back from MSU so soon! (in 11 days!)

I thought I bombed MMI, but it turned out fine! I guess you never know what would happen.

Is there anyone else out there whose application has yet to move past "complete" and "forwarded to committee for preliminary review"? I've been complete since late July and I'm just wondering if that's an ok thing at this point... I'm glad I haven't gotten a rejection, but I'm also a little nervous that nothing at all will happen to my application, which is almost worse :/

I looked at last years thread and I saw some people who went from that status to invited for an interview. I think others went from that status to rejection.

I went from that status to pre-interview hold. I saw some people get off pre-interview hold and others stayed in that position until they were rejected.

So basically, I do not think it is bad or good at this point. I might double check with the office just to be safe. Maybe ask if they have all the necessary documents etc.

Haha so it's pretty much anything goes. That makes me feel better, I was worried that everyone had heard SOMETHING by now and I was a forgotten soul

It would not hurt to check with them, just to make sure. 🙂

Another day of nervous-looking students traipsing around school in suits! I remember how nervous I felt interviewing, but also how excited I was to be accepted. I hope everyone who interviewed today enjoyed MSU and didn't hate the MMI.

Holler at me if you have any further questions.

Since the school is using MMI now, would you say that it is equipped to interview significantly more students than last year (for example, twice as many)?

I was complete in August with the "preliminary review" status and finally got an II at the beginning of January. Don't lose hope! :luck:
