I was complete in August with the "preliminary review" status and finally got an II at the beginning of January. Don't lose hope! :luck:

That's awesome! Congrats 🙂 and I'll keep my head up. Thanks to everyone for responding!! Good luck all

As much as I despise writing my student loan check each month....I have to admit that MSU is a rare gem of medical education.

Working with an intern today who graduated from a unnamed "Top Tier" medical school I was absolutely shocked at their level of proficiency with basic medical procedures and management.

MSU has something special that few "big name" universities have. The difference has nothing to do with the first 2 years of training, but everything to do with how they handle their 3rd and 4th year rotations. A lot of what we have our interns doing, I was doing as a 4th year medical student at msu.

In fact I frequently wish we had MSU students at my hospital as opposed to the medical students from the local university.

Would be happy to provide examples to those still trying to make a decision about which medical school to attend.

I would love to get your insight. Thanks for being willing to share.

Could you also talk about which pre-clinical campus you chose and which clinical campus you chose and why. Thanks so much!

Since the school is using MMI now, would you say that it is equipped to interview significantly more students than last year (for example, twice as many)?

I don't think the total number of students interviewing has changed much from last year. However, we have half as many interview days and twice as many students attending each interview day this year.

Do you know when interviews stop?

Hey Guys,

I got my II this week, and I was complete on July. I was at the preliminary review step since then.
I am interviewing late March.

I would also be interested in hearing more!

When you get the acceptance call, what area code was it from? 616 or 517?

How long did it take you guys to get the formal acceptance after you released your CBC? All of this hurry up and wait stuff is driving me crazy!

Has anyone else been accepted to both Michigan State's MD and DO programs? I am really struggling with which to choose. Is there a certain type of student that chooses one over the other? I am really looking at comparing MSU's schools, not an MD/DO debate (although I would love to hear any opinions)! Can anyone offer insight?

(First time poster!) 😳

I was accepted early January and did my CBC right away. I still haven't received the formal acceptance... I'll call next week when I get back from the conference.

Then where's our rejection?! Hahaha

Likely will come the day all interviews are finalized. I guess they hold on to extra apps in the event that people drop their interview dates, etc. as time goes along. Oh well Michigan!

Yep, made that choice two years ago and haven't looked back. Both are good schools, but hit me up if you want to chat.

I'm still holding onto hope, as delusional as that may be 🙁

I just got an email saying we would get a formal acceptance sometime by the end of February.

I was accepted to both. Both good schools. Happy with my choice (CHM). PM me if you have any questions.

Is anyone else who interviewed in November still waiting for a decision? I didn't get a call yesterday but I'm still hoping for some kind of status update today (none so far). I'm starting to worry that my application got lost on someone's desk - seems like a REALLY long time to be waiting. :-\

I interviewed on 01/25. Waitlisted. 🙁 extremely upset. Huge letdown. First choice here...

Don't give up hope! You can definitely get off of the waitlist! Hang in there!

Sorry dude... keep your head up! How did you feel about the interview? I was there on 1/25 too but I haven't heard back

Better than a rejection mrbobian! I got off the alternate last year and I know a few others that did too. Hang in there!

I'm going to be applying to MSCHM this upcoming summer and I am an ISS, University of Michigan senior, GPA 3.48, Science GPA 3.3, not taken MCAT yet. Anyways, MSU is my top choice because of their programs dealing with underserved medicine. I am from a rural area in northern michigan and I really want to go into rural medicine because of the experiences I have had as a rural patient. I'm not quite sure how or where I would be able to relay that desire to the admission committees. I guess what I'm asking is, that something that I put into my personal statement or will there be an opportunity in secondaries or the interview process to express this about myself??

Any advice would be very helpful thanks!!

I think that is something you can hint to in your personal statement, and then expand on in your secondary. If you look in the beginning of this thread you should be able to find the prompts for the secondary responses. You can see from there where you would be able to fit that in. I'm not exactly sure if they reuse secondary prompts though, but its a good start.

Thanks guys! I had a good "pep-talk" with Dad and cheered up a bit. I'm putting my nose to the grindstone this week drafting a letter of intent and outlining further options, as they allow alternate listed applicants to update applications.

brosephlol, I was extremely excited the day before my interview and left the interview feeling "marginal" I guess. The student interview went well, it was just painfully too short, and reflecting on it, I feel as if I didn't at all get to really shine. My interviewer seemed like an awesome guy though. As for the MMI, I had a lot of fun, but also reflecting on it, I just wasn't on my A game that day. I fumbled at the beginning of a few stations as I overthought them, and I think I might have rambled a little too much in others.

Hopefully I can put a few things together that strengthen my app and REALLY show the addcom that I want to be there. Ill be sure to keep you all posted.

Hey all!

I'm new to thread and just want to say "hello!"

Anyone else have an interview on March 22nd?

I got the II yesterday!!!!! 😍
OOS, completed in July!

When I saw the e-mail, I think my heart just stopped for a few seconds.
March 22nd interview at GR. I am so happy and excited, but making myself sick with worries. I am really worried I might turn blue by forgetting to breathe! 😱

I interviewed at MSU and loved it! I keep postponing my Wayne State interview because I'm not sure if I want to buy another plane ticket, and I'm kind of sick of interviews. Did anyone else interview at both MSU and Wayne State? Other than the fact there are more hospitals around Detroit, how is Wayne State a better option?

Is MSU receptive to letters of interest and updates pre-interview?
If so, who should it be addressed to? Dead or admissions office?

Based on the page here, it appears that MSU does not accept update letters unless you are on the waiting list post-interview or by special Committee request.

Ah, thanks. I missed that part.

I'm almost in the same boat. I'm about ready to forget about Wayne State because I love MSU-CHM so much.

Me too! Going into the season Wayne was my top choice since I already go to Wayne for undergrad and I am so accustomed to it. The interview day at MSU was definitely more interactive and gave me a better vibe of what to expect. I felt as if Wayne kinda just got the interviewees in and out. Accepted at MSU and Alternate listed at Wayne has really allowed me to take a closer look at MSU and all the great things it has to offer. Both are good schools at the end of the day, and I believe you will be happy with either choice!

It's a tough choice, I'm right there with you.
I would almost say take the interview, because they are so different. On the other hand, plane tickets are expensive!

Here are some other threads where people discussed them:

Granted, some of these threads are old, but many of the points made are still valid.

I'll be interviewing at GR too 🙂 I'm also OOS. Don't worry, be happy 🙂

Anyone know how late they extend interviews/ do i still have a chance to get one? I'm 3.75/29Q and OOS but not too far (Ohio).

Last year they handed out the last batch of interviews around the last day of February. They also sent out rejections to everyone else on February 28th. So I think we should all know by the end of this month if we will be interviewing or not.
