I was thinking the exact same thing, but two people posted about it at the exact same time yesterday. Seems strange that two "reputable" members of SDN would troll us on this.

Anyone want to volunteer to call the admissions office on Monday?

fo sho my son. I'll call bright and early.

Yeah, I did not mean to be rude or anything, I'm just curious as to what's going on because I do not want to submit a secondary with a blank essay. I'm sure that would be an auto rejection lol

I can pm anyone who wants a link to the email I got. Or post it up whatever. I'd be the gunneriest gunner in the world if I pulled that off.

I was just joking. Not actually accusing anyone of anything. It would be pretty funny though, with all the adcoms wondering why everyone just stopped answering a question.

Well I guess I'll be waiting to submit my app until Monday.

Seriously. All the 4.0/40 students, typical SDN users, don't answer it. They would be like :wtf:

OSU would have its lowest, stats wise, matriculating class in years

All in good fun. Muhahaha...

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using SDN Mobile

rofl. They did not "proof-read" the question correctly? How hard is it to write a one sentence essay question clearly? Did they seriously have no one look it over?

Ridiculous...

that was probably their go-to answer for "this question is dumb"

It would have been a great question if it was just worded as, "What is your understanding of social justice, and what are some of its real world implications? How does the advocacy for social justice fit in this picture?"

They way it was set up seemed like it was worded as social justice vs advocacy.

Are there still folks out there who haven't received the e-mail saying they're altering the secondary?

I never got an email about it

that's too bad people who haven't completed the secondary may not have received it. i DID receive the e-mail (just to add legitimacy to that fact that it is not a hoax), but i had already submitted.

Same here. I read it to mean secondaries that hadn't gone out yet wouldn't have the new question...which of course doesn't address those of you who have it but haven't submitted.

I would also call if I were in that situation. I don't think they expect anyone to answer it, but I would feel weird leaving it blank when it's on there.

I am one of the first people who posted about the email. If you guys haven't gotten it feel free to PM me and I can even fwd it to you haha. or take a picture of it on my computer or something lol

I had already submitted my app long before I got the email. I read it to mean that the social justice question this year is going to be a wash regardless of if you answered it or not. If you still have the question on your app but you're not comfortable leaving the question blank...maybe just answer it as-is. Define social justice theoretically..then a blurb about actually putting it into action..maybe with an example of the difference in your own life. With all the confusion about it this year I cant imagine them putting too much weight into it. Just answer earnestly, but don't try too hard to get the "right" answer. Chances a it's probably going to be thrown out anyway

Yeah, I'm just not comfortable leaving it blank

Yeah, I'm just not comfortable leaving it blank

Haha I wouldn't either! But don't sweat too much bout what you end up writing for this one question. I'm sure you have lots of other secondaries to tackle! 🙂

Yeah, I'm not even thinking about that question for now. I'm just going to wait to see what other people say on Monday or maybe give them a call myself for peace of mind.

I JUST called the office of admissions. They told me that they are re-evaluating the social justice question and that they aren't sure what they are going to do yet. she said that if you have NOT submitted yet then you MUST STILL answer ALL QUESTIONS

EDIT: also, the lady said they will come to a decision by approximately Wednesday and until they make a final decision all applicants must fill our the whole application.

this forum is about to blow up. one somewhat minor mistake has just been turned into a fiasco.

What? They emailed me saying it would be disregarded.

Quoted so ppl could see that I edited it.

yeah, the e-mail says, "we will be updating the application for this cycle, and this question will not appear on the newer secondary application" not, "we are trying to decide what to do with the question." again, i've already submitted so it doesn't affect me, but people who haven't received the same e-mail.

This situation is absurd. whats going on buckeyes!?

And this is why you do not submit blank essay questions. Thanks typicalindian!

I got the email too, of course, I had already submitted days prior to the email. I thought I had a pretty good answer too. Rats.

So they STILL haven't decided, yet they've sent that email out to some but not others? I really don't understand what's going on here...

These essays are DEEP! Dang! I've really enjoyed writing them but I'm getting so far behind schedule it is making it less enjoyable. The altruism essay has taken me at least 5 hours and the social justice essay is going to be another 4-5 I think. I really hope they read these thoroughly since they asking such thought provoking questions. I would be greatly saddened if they did this: "Oh hey this guy has a 28 on his MCAT and a low GPA, I'll throw him/her out before reading the essays" . I don't even have a bad MCAT or GPA and I would be upset to hear it! If they do any sort of screening before reading these essays they shouldn't be requiring such extensive essays IMHO. These better be read, they better read everyone's...

end rant

P.S. Should I write this social justice essay?! Ahhhh 😕😕😕😕😕😕

Just checked the secondary. The prompt has now been changed to:

Articulate your understanding of social justice. How have you advocated or how would you advocate for social justice. (600 words or less)

Give me an interview, OSU, and all will be forgiven! 😀

I won't settle for less than an acceptance!

You, sir, drive a hard bargain.

this is a joke, chill guys. They'll get it worked out, just relax everyone.

Interesting. So what do you think that means for the people who already submitted?

Seriously, not that I did this, but think if someone worked on the essay all day today and went to submit it this evening and it was changed. I would be like :wtf:

if you dont mind me asking, have you already submitted and if so, if you check your secondary does it have the original question or the newly updated question?

No, I figured I'd wait for all of this to get "resolved" before moving forward with this secondary as I did not want to waste my time on an essay that may have been thrown out, or changed in this case.

fair enough, fair enough!

anyone else who submitted before today, if you check your secondary does it have the original question or the newly updated question?

I also waited for all this to be sorted out first, but I feel for you. If I were you I'd probably call and let them know that you answered the original question.

And you'd think that if a school changes a question they'd at least notify people in some capacity just in case they don't notice it.
