Just curious if you remember when you submitted the secondary? I haven't heard anything about any other interviews since that first batch and was just wondering.

Got an interview invite yesterday! Submitted my secondary on 8/5. They assigned my interview date (9/19). So excited, OSU is my first choice!!!

Thanks for posting the complete date. Congrats on the IIs everyone!

Congrats! that beats my 7-day turnaround for Gtown... if some schools are this fast...I'm trying not to get worried about schools that I still haven't heard from

Just submitted though! fingers crossed 🙂

I have had some very fast turnaround times... 4 days for both University of Chicago and Case Western. But there are also schools that I have yet to receive a secondary from and schools where I submitted my secondary over a month ago, so I'm sure it's different everywhere!

I'm trying to get a head start on the essays, but it appears there was an issue with at least one of the questions and it was possibly reworded according to the thread.

Would someone mind posting all the essays, after they were reworded, to clear up the confusion?

Thanks guys

In your own words, define altruism and provide an example (or two) of when you exhibited altruistic behavior. (600 words or less)

Articulate your understanding of social justice. How have you advocated or how would you advocate for social justice. (600 words or less)

Describe one or more experiences where you collaborated or worked as part of a team with people of different racial, ethnic and/or socioeconomic backgrounds and/or belief systems than your own. What impact did this experience(s) have on you? (600 words or less)

These were the 3 I received.

+1 👍

After wrestling through the essays, submitted tonight 🙂

Has anyone had to reschedule their interview? Curious about the process... I just clicked the button saying "please reschedule my interview" but I wish I could choose from a range of dates.

I just called the admissions office to reschedule, since I have two interviews in Ohio. They were very friendly and helpful, and willing to put me in on the day I needed.

Thanks for your reply - glad to hear they were so nice and accommodating!

When I logged into the secondary app today, the social justice question was gone...

Is anyone else seeing this or am I going crazy?

😵 I'm going to be pissed off if that's true. I spent like 3 days on that essay alone.

I'm on a little family vacation and really struggling with these essays. I was hoping to finish the secondary today but might have to push it back a few days. How fast is OSU with marking an app. complete after submission? Can I submit next week (end of Aug.) and still be considered a fairly early applicant? I applied to a bunch of schools and have hit a wall with these last couple of secondaries, and being on vacation with family does not help....

II this morning for 10/01! Anybody else going that day? OOS, 3.7, 34. This is a top top choice for me. So stoked!

Anyone else applying MSTP here, so many things...so many transcripts to mail out, WOW.

Also, does anybody know what the grading system is at OSU?

Also, does anybody know what the grading system is at OSU?

Pass/fail first two years. Third and fourth are honors/pass/fail(someone correct me if I am wrong.)

The top 10 and 25 for the whole year get a letter pit in their file but its not a grade, persay.

Congrats on all the II, when were all of you complete?

Wondering this also.. and how do you know if you are complete or not? Do they send an email? I couldn't seem to find any info on the application portal aside from when I submitted =\

EDIT: nvm, found the app status page (forgot about that), but it says this:

Application Status
Your current status is: AMCAS Application Received
View your status details.
Secondary application Received

Does that mean they still don't have my LOR...?

submitted secondary around July 20th, not exactly sure the date.

from the osu website:

"Complete Application File - consists of your AMCAS application, the Ohio State secondary application, valid MCAT scores, and at least two academic reference letters. We do not notify you when your application is complete nor does your application status change to "complete"."

so if you have all of that stuff in, and your status says "secondary received", then you are complete! if you have a question as to whether something has been received or not, it wouldnt hurt to call!

Ahh that makes more sense, heh. I'll call tomorrow to make sure they got my LORs. Thanks!

are there any current students here? i was wondering how the school deals with the gigantic class size and what impacts having 250+ students have on your opportunities in research and clinical exposure

I am a med 2, our class size is huge. Like Wildcat said, it will be about 180 for the class of 2017 so it's a non-issue for you guys.

That being said, research is really easy to come across here. There are a ton of labs in pretty much every department and speciality, no matter how specific, you can think of. Most of the people I know between M1 and M2 did clinical research but there is a plethora of basic science research that can be done, too. I would say OSU does an excellent job pushing/helping medical students get into research. There are also scholarships available for almost everyone who wants to get paid to do summer research (I imagine with the smaller class size everyone can get one). I did research throughout most of M1 so I have first hand knowledge that getting into research is pretty easy and doable.

I know for my class they had to add some clinical rotation sites. We won't know for sure how well they have adjusted for our expanded class size until we get to rotations but I am not worried about it. We have AMAZING administrators looking out for us and they have assured us it will be fine. Again, it is a nonissue for your class.

For clinical exposure during M1+M2 it is extremely easy to shadow/spend time in clinics. There are tons of free clinics, tons of set-up mentorships/shadowing in many departments, and it's easy to just e-mail docs and just follow people around. Very, very easy to do.

Got an invite yesterday. Email came telling me my status had been updated. ~3.8, ~3.75, ~34. OOS.

Haha uh oh. Those were my stats and I heard nothing. Obviously still early and plenty of time but still. Sad.

Congrats!! Do you mind me asking when you submitted your secondary application? Thanks!!

not a problem! i submitted 7/27. no idea when i was actually marked as complete though since they don't send out those emails. good luck everyone!

How long does it take for them to send secondaries? I just added this school recently...

I got an II for 10/17 and I may want to reschedule due to school/work conflicts. Has anyone had to reschedule yet? Are they pretty flexible about it?

I had to reschedule and the admissions office was very very nice about it and accommodating!

Can someone please help me? I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but I got an email to complete the secondary, my account is all activated and everything, but I can't seem to find the actual secondary application (...man, if I'm having this much trouble just FINDING it, then how am I going to get through med school? haha).

So far I have gotten to the Base Navigation Page, and I clicked Self Service > OSU Supplemental Applications > Medicine. All that shows up here is the letter from the Admissions Office asking me to complete the secondary, but I can't actually find the secondary.

Thank you! I'd call them myself, but it's easier to ask you guys since I work full time during office hours.

How many emails have you gotten? You need to get 3 different emails to access the secondary, 1 with username/password, another (shortly after) with activation code, and a third (for me it was 1 day after the other 2) with info about the secondary

I'm pretty sure I got all of those. Here's the email, the the bolded supplemental application is what I clicked but can't find the actual application. Is there an email in addition to this that I was supposed to get? I received this a couple weeks ago, but since my MCAT results just came out, I'm filling it out now.

II for 10/10.

Has anyone had any luck filling out the Student Housing Form? I clicked on it and it said page not found

....so apparently I have just not been seeing the button at the bottom of the screen that says "College of Medicine Supplemental Application." Thank you for attempting to help me, and sorry for my incompetence...it's been a long couple of weeks. Good luck on your applications, kickster!!

Thanks, you too!! I think the OSU secondary was the most confusing of all of the ones I did, so it's understandable!
