So, I just recently found the Ohio State Secondary email in my trash. It was sent on July 12. This is the only secondary I haven't completed out of about 35. My question is, at this point, should I just leave it and not waste my money on the secondary fee, or should I submit it this late? I'm leaning towards just leaving it, especially with my stats: 3.56c, 3.36sci, 31Q

Thanks for any input.

have you received any interviews yet (have similar stats) and if you have the money, go ahead and submit, why not, especially since many people have yet to submit theirs probably

good luck

Does anybody know if OSU does interviews any days besides Mondays? I'm wondering if it'll be possible to change my interview day.

Specifically, does anybody have an interview either Oct. 2nd, 3rd, or 4th?

Also on Wednesdays.

Thank makes me feel a lot better, thanks for the reply! 👍

Damnit I swear I did not find these instructions anywhere. Anyways, how bad does this set me back that my apostrophes are now question marks, showing that I don't follow instructions?

You didn't review the final pdf before submitting? 🙁

I don't think you need to worry so much about it. My app had some weird formatting as well, but I still got an interview. So many of these schools have finnicky applications that I'm sure they understand, as long as your mistakes aren't egregious.

none of the schools in ohio are showing me any love ... waaaaaaa

What does it say on the status page when you're complete? It says my secondary application was received, but it doesn't say anything about my recommendations.

I submitted my secondary three weeks ago, and the recommendations should have been available then, so I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem.

Mine says the same thing, but again, I'm not sure if "received" = complete or not

II for 10/10.

Has anyone had any luck filling out the Student Housing Form? I clicked on it and it said page not found

I can't find the form either, but I emailed them about it and I'll let you know when I get a response!

Does anyone know what grading system Ohio State has (P/F or A/B/C)? Also, is the curriculum mainly lectures or group based learning? Finally, are out of state student given any opportunities for merit scholarships?

anyone have the applied/interviewed/accepted data from last year?

The numbers from us news rankings are:
4540 applied
1004 interview
509 accepted

Thank you

That data is both old and and to a certain extent misleading. Apparently what happened is that Ohio State grossly over-accepted for the class of 2015 (which is reflected in the stats above). As a result, the class of 2016 was considerably smaller (178 were accepted, plus 10 who deferred from the previous year). This resulted in a slightly stronger class (MCAT mean went from 33 to 35).

You can expect that the class of 2017 to have a class size close to 220. My best guess is that they'll wind up accepting between one fourth and one third of interviewed applicants.

i meant 509 were accepted but only 264 attended. just using the stats on the us new rankings site so sorry if i gave anyone old numbers. just the ones i saw!

if what you're saying is right then this years numbers should be similar to whatever year the us new rankings is for since they only differ by like 40 students, which granted is still kind of a lot. right?

For the class of 2016 they interviewed proportionately fewer students since they planned on accepting fewer students. Again, my best guess is that they will interview around 1,000 students and accept around 400 students to get a class of about 220.

i see, makes sense! thanks!

Sorry if this was asked already but----do we get an email when we're complete? I submitted on 8/31...I went to App. Center-->App. Status and there was a sentence about completing my secondary application. Pretty sure that doesn't mean I'm complete?

Nope, no complete email. Your status will say "received" when your app is complete

Same... I feel so dumb haha... Apparently we should have copy pasted our essay into textedit/notepad before we copied it into the application and not directly from microsoft word 🙁

Apparently copy/pasting into Notepad from Word then into the application is incorrect as well. I typed my application into Word then copy pasted it into notepad and placed it into the application and still had an error in at least one of my words. I only noticed it in the spell check program built into the secondary app. I tried retyping the word receiving the error and it still didn't resolve the problem, the word still appeared jumbled.

No matter what I tried the word sill looked like jumbled code in the spell checker, yet fine on the typing screen. I figured it was an issue with the program and not on my end, so I submitted and decided to call admissions. They told me that I should NOT have typed the essay in Word and copy/pasted it to Notepad. They said I did not follow the instructions of TYPING IT DIRECTLY INTO NOTEPAD and they could not help me now that it was submitted.

I don't recall the instructions saying to type it into Notepad, I recall them saying to type it into Word and transfer it to Notepad, then paste it in the secondary. Regardless, it shouldn't matter, I retyped the error-word in the secondary program itself and it still didn't fix it. Not sure how the ad com will view these errors, hopefully its not an auto-reject for "not following the instructions" because I thought I did.

Did I not follow the instructions correctly?

Hey blueorchid. Good news man. I just got my interview invite despite the copying from Word mixup! Don't worry man!

When you first open the secondary application, the directions (from what I recall, at least) tell you to copy and paste from Notepad. I do not recall it saying to type it directly in notepad. Once I saved some personal/demographic information on to the secondary, that warning page disappears and does not come back. I originally typed my essays in Word, pasted them onto Notepad and saved the documents as notepad files. I then copied and pasted from Notepad onto the secondary. As I was about to submit the secondary, I noticed some formatting errors in "print preview" even after I copied from Notepad. Apostrophes, semi-colons and quotation marks all turned into question marks.

Upon seeing the errors, I had to re-read all three essays and manually fix the out of place "?"s with the proper symbols, which was the only way (for me) to fix the errors despite following the original directions and advice given here on SDN. That seemed to fix the issues, however, my paragraph indents were sometimes lost, but I figured that with all these formatting issues this application is causing, the random loss of indentation isn't a big deal.

Sadly, they won't fix or let you fix any of your secondary if you have submitted and paid for it. Hopefully you didn't use a lot of quotes, semi-colons or apostrophes, otherwise I think the essay readers will just look past the few errors.

Can any current students recommend a good hotel that's close by?

Blackwell is expensive but nice. Varsity inn is terrible, don't stay there. Springhill suites are reasonably priced and very close. A little further away on olentangy is a red roof inn, it is cheap and kind of close.

Thanks so much! Would you say Springhill suites is a good choice then? Would I be able to walk there for my interview or would I need to take a cab? Would there by any chance be a shuttle bus?😳

You may be able to walk. You'll be on 5th Avenue and Meiling (the building for the med school) is between 9th and 10th, so I'd wager it's about a 4-5 block trek. At least, it doesn't seem that bad to me as a current student, but YMMV to somebody unfamiliar with the area.

Unfortunately, the only bus service that goes out there is the COTA (the municipal bus service), and from their maps I don't see a convenient route there, as you would have to switch buses at some point. And a taxi may be not be worth the trip since it's not that far.

But the Springhill Suites would be a good choice - the Red Roof Inn on Olentangy is pretty far compared to Springhill and the Blackwell.

Here is a google map with walking directions. https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...y8I44iDG9H5I1Q5S4cw&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=ltm&z=16

It says 16 minutes. Cabs are really cheap in columbus(compared to bigger cities) so I would think about getting a cab. However, walking is doable. There is not an easy way to take a bus in.

Springhill is a decent choice. Don't get me wrong, it's more about economy than extravagance, from what I have heard. I have personally never stayed there but some of the people I gave interview tours for have and thought it was O.K.

Thanks a lot, Tyedyeddog. I'm still debating with Red Roof Inn since I'd have to take a cab either way. I appreciate your help!

My family has stayed there a couple of times, they have no issues with the place. There are a couple hotels pretty close to that red roof on olentangy, too, if you need more options.

I didn't notice errors on symbols, even though I did use semi-colons and such, just the word that had no punctuation ironically. I didn't reread all of the essays in spell check, I wish I had now, I figured the program would tag the errors as misspelled words which it did for the one I noticed.

As for deleting and retyping the words having formatting issues in the secondary, retyping them DID NOT resolve the issue for me either.

Received an invite yesterday for 10/22. Submitted my secondary on 8/24 and was officially complete early last week. OOS, non-trad.

Unfortunately, I have a class that meets once per week on Mondays. For that reason I was hoping to reschedule this interview for a Wednesday date. When I called the admissions office, the earliest available Wednesday was 11/7. I would make the switch, no question, but I was wondering whether there would be any significant disadvantage in delaying my interview by two weeks. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I was accepted for the class entering 2012 and I just want to send waves of good karma to all the non-traditional applicants applying this year. Be persistent, here, and everywhere else you apply.
thank, dude. That's mighty cool of you to say..or type.

I'd avoid Mondays. People are always cranky. Personally, I'd aim for Friday. People are excited about the weekend. As for sooner or later, I wouldnt stress it.

II this morning!

OOS, non-trad, 33O, complete 8/10

Should I call the school to request a reschedule date myself or just let them reschedule it?
