Does anyone know if you can claim residency and thus pay instate tuition after a year at OHSU?

Unfortunately you can't; it'll be OOS for all four years. Their financial aid guy was telling us Oregon made it a law and there isn't much they can do it about it.

That's too bad... but thanks for letting me know!

:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Interview invite at 8:40pm on a Saturday! I guess they really are working around the clock.

Congratulations!!!

When is your interview?

dsoz

Thanks! The soonest slot is this coming Friday but I'm really sick right now so I think I'll try and schedule for Feb 1st.

Does anyone know what the cost of attendance allowance is for housing at OHSU? I've been searching high and low but all I can find is information on tuition, insurance and academic fees...

The part of financial aid that's left over after paying fees is roughly $20,000/year. This is totally sufficient for most students.

"Thank you for your interest in attending the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine. As stated in the secondary application instructions, it is the admissions policy of the School of Medicine to give preference to the following applicants:

· Residents of Oregon

· Non-resident applicants with Oregon Heritage. The School of Medicine uses the Oregon Heritage Policy for student selection, but it is not used as a basis for determining residency, and therefore the tuition a student pays. Oregon Heritage is defined as 1) A student with one or both parents residing in Oregon at the time of application, 2) A student who graduated from high school in Oregon with at least two years at a high school in Oregon, or 3) A student who graduated from an institution of higher education in Oregon with at least two years at an institution in Oregon.

· WICHE-certified residents of Montana and Wyoming

· M.D./Ph.D. and M.D./M.P.H. candidates

· Non-resident applicants with superior achievements in academics and other related experiences. (For this admissions cycle, superior academics is defined as a cumulative Total GPA, as reported by AMCAS, of 3.65 or higher and most recent eligible MCAT of 32 or higher.)

· Those identified as Diversity applicants through a holistic review of their application.

This year the number of qualified applicants in the aforementioned groups significantly exceeded the available placements. In screening your file it was determined that you did not meet any of the above categories. Therefore, we regret to inform you that placement in the entering class of 2013 cannot be offered to you.

We greatly appreciate your interest in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine and wish you every success in your future pursuits."

Sorry to hear that, mate. 🙁 Have you had any luck elsewhere?

Bt dubz, if I land an interview here, I will post some kind of silly youtube video of myself expressing the maniacal joy that would come with an interview to OHSU. 🙂

Haha, thanks. Some interviews, but no acceptances yet. :xf: Look forwarding to seeing that video! 🙂

I called the admissions office and got a call back today (I submitted my secondary almost 20 weeks ago & I was getting impatient). I was told pretty clearly that I had been selected for an interview by the MD folks, but since I applied MD/MPH they are still waiting for a response from the MPH folks about whether I will be interviewing for them as well.

Dude! I got a live PERSON! I couldn't believe it! I think I might be the only one that has ever been connected to a live person when calling rather than receiving a return call: (1) I'm still in screening, (2) A decision should be made within 2 weeks, and (3) They did indeed receive my updates. w00t. Jesus I hope I don't get rejected. :xf:

Thank goodness for SDN!

Can you guys please give the number you called?? Haven't been able to get a response🙁

Thanks Rachel, you beat to me to the punch.

If it helps, I selected #2 from the touch-tone menu options and seem to be the only applicant that has been fortunate enough to land a live person. Good luck!

Actually, last year I was able to call in and talk to a live person TWICE! I thought that it was normal to talk to a live person until I read the school specific thread last year.

Sorry to burst your bubble. You are not unique in talking to a live person.

EDIT: . . . only person to speak to a live person *this year.* 😛

Looks like I responded a little too slow and I'll be interviewing Feb 8th. Anyone else?

Me. But I chose that day 'cause of my work/family schedule.

I called the number on the top of the list on this web page:

http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/education/schools/school-of-medicine/contact/index.cfm

I got no answer & left a message, then received a call back a day later.

Thanks a lot Rachelkj and Guero. Good luck 🙂

I got this same message, but both my parents live in Oregon and I graduated from an Oregon high school. How am I not an Oregon heritage applicant? Calling the admissions office tomorrow....😡

I hope it was a genuine mistake and you're still in; but perhaps they indiscriminately sent everyone the same rejection without looking at mission group status? Here's to hoping you're s in the running. Good luck.

I'm in one of the mission groups for GPA and MCAT, and my portal still says on hold for an interview. Still crossing my fingers and grateful to still be in the running. And herropanda, sorry to hear about that. I'm sure it was just a mistake. Hopefully you can get that figured out.

I didn't even read that far into the description because I was so outraged lol. I'm in that group as well--time to get this straightened out! Thanks for the support!

I would call their admissions staff has been nothing but pleasant and helpful for me. I would assume that it is what the person above said it is just their generic denial status, which they do not personalize, but I would check for sure.

For anyone who has received their acceptance packet I had a quick question. There was a piece of paper in there that described a listserv for incoming medical students. I was wondering if we had to register for the listserv or if we are automatically put on it using the email provided in our application? Thanks!

Did you ever find out the answer to this question? The letter in the acceptance packet is kind of vague...

Very vague! Unfortunately, no I have not. Which isa bummer because I was hoping to connect with some future classmates, but I guess it is still very early.

You could make a facebook page like some of the other schools have done. I don't want to do it because I work full time and don't want to administrate accepting people to the group.

I created a facebook account (big step for me!) so I could join the first schools I was accepted at. I dropped those groups, but nothing has been made for OHSU yet.

I called and they were very nice. They basically said that was a bad mistake and that I'll go back into the review pool. Better than a rejection! woot woot!

I really wonder how many times this happens a year? I have already heard a few anecdotes like this.

I can try and make a facebook group for accepted applicants, but I'll need some co-administrators to help me with it. Anyone else want to volunteer? 🙂

Okay, I think that if you follow this link you can get to the group and ask to join it. I've never made a fb group before, so let me know if it doesn't work or if you think there's a better way to do it. I am fine with whatever. See you over there!

Sorry to hear about the rejections! Did you guys get an email saying your status had been updated?

No email for me, I was just doing my daily status-check rounds 🙂o) and saw that my OHSU status had new stuff at the bottom.

Though on the plus side, having this (potential) interview so late means I have a stack of new things to talk about when they ask what I've been up to. Is there space for that in the one-on-one interview or should I be sending them a resume update in letter form?

I would send an update. They will have read your file thoroughly and will be coming with questions from it. Might not have time to add anything beyond what they've already seen.

Good to know. Maybe I should go ahead & get that in to them. Thanks!

oh that's weird. I got rejected by status page, no email. It's ok, knew it was a long shot.

Nope. Complete 10/16. It's been over 3 months 🙁
Are there any other in-state folks who were complete in October & are still waiting?

I am in-state, and was complete in October. Still nothing. A really irritating system. I've got two other acceptances, and am really debating the pros and cons of even attending the interview should it be offered. Anyone know what OHSU's merit aid is like? Are there scholarships available?
