I've been following this thread out of interest.

How does QU expect you to distinguish yourself on the waitlist if they won't accept any updates or letters? I thought at this point, stats etc don't matter as much as your willingness to attend. Well, how do you let them know?

Your guess is as good as ours. They must have some sort of plan??

I'm pretty sure biolectrikx was on the wait list previously (I'm almost positive at some point we were back and forth about being optimistic). Not sure about interview date though.

biolectrikx, mind sharing stats/basic ECs? I don't know how much these things matter any more though for the wait list

acromonkey's right - I had been on the waitlist since early march (interviewed back in Jan).

very much a non-trad here. GPA ~3.5, mcat 32 (ea section >=10), research for several years and volunteering (clinical and non), also lots of work in LGBT disparities.

I actually sent QU a bunch of stuff (updates/papers/etc) before attending the open house and finding out they were not receptive to extra material (I was actually worried that it might have hurt me).

I can totally empathize with all of you. This past week I was a wreck. Even though I was still waiting to hear back from one more school I interviewed at, I had pretty much given up hope as I was waitlisted here and elsewhere and was going to start working on my 2014 application this weekend. Mon and Tues night I couldn't even sleep I was so stressed out. This acceptance changed everything... I sincerely hope that enough spots open up so all of you can get in, b/c honestly not knowing really sucks. (this is prolly way too much to post on here, but I'm still riding the emotional rollercoaster that I've been on since yesterday, lol)

Thank you for being so open and honest about your journey so far! I think many of us can relate to the emotional roller coaster! Truly, congratulations to you!

Congratulations to you, sincerely! Thanks for sharing your story with us. BTW there's never too much to share on here since we are all basically on here to share our craziness! lol Now I hope you're going to take the summer and enjoy!! Congrats again and I hope that I will be your classmate!

Hey is there anyone else who was accepted to QU and other established, allopathic, US medical schools and is matriculating to QU? I am seriously considering about going to QU but worry about the potential risk of an unmatched residency on account of not having an established reputation.:scared:

the only reason that would happen is if you, personally, don't do well on your boards and during your clerkships. you have to worry that the school will provide you with the best education during your first two years and that you'll learn plenty from your clerkships. residency programs will judge your scores and achievements relative to other students' (leave the super-schools out...they can get away with murder).

Also consider the financial costs of attending school x vs y over 4 years

I was accepted to SUNY upstate too and I know of at least a couple other students who were accepted other places too but are choosing QU. I had the same concern as you but in the end I love QU the most and think they will provide an amazing education. Other new schools have done well with matching and also as a member of the charter class the school's success depends on our success - they will be very invested in us doing well. Good luck in your decision, I think you should chose where you feel you fit best.

Thank you for this response. I'm choosing QU! :soexcited:

Same, decided on QU too. Does anyone know if we have to do anything else for the commitment or was it just the 100 when we got the acceptance?

+1...committing too but not sure either

Withdrew yesterday, was also holding a significant scholarship, so hopefully they redistribute!

I've been surprisingly relaxed about being on the waitlist, not checking the forums, and just going with the "it is what it is and it's out of my control" attitude...but now that May 15th has rolled around, I already want to tear my hair out and its only 4pm. I just needed to get that out of my system, that is all. Oh, and have acceptance e-mails from the WL been coming just in the AM or throughout the day?

Lol...the "out of my control" mind set can only last for so long!

Is anyone concerned about QU's limit on research? I don't mean limited just in terms of grants, but also the new research lab not being completed and the limit the school has regarding "not ever being an 'intensive' medical school?"

QU has made it clear during interviews (mine at least), open houses, etc. that they will not be a research focused institution. I assume because of their primary care focus. If you want to be involved in research, then it could be an issue

I'm kind of confused. Where is all the waitlist movement? I know sdn doesn't represent the whole pop of applicants, but it should give of us an idea of what's going on. hmm

There apparently isn't much going on (at least according to sdn). I wonder if they are going back over applicants on the wait list? Maybe it wasnt completely ranked?

It's entirely possible that their committee has yet to meet since the 15th. Hopefully, there will be some apparent movement early next week....(it seems like people have historically gotten e-mails on fridays and mondays).
Admittedly, it is getting harder to stay positive!

Are any of you guys on the waitlist accepted to other schools? I hope you all get in where you want to go! Good luck!

No other acceptances, and just started my mcat re-studying today 🙁

Do you think your MCAT is low? Or are you just doing anything to improve your app?

My score is definitely on the slightly low end for acceptances to any school. I'm a little concerned about my reapplication. Fall semester of this year I was stressing over a lack of medical school interviews, took 20 credits of 4000 level classes, and didn't get much done in the way of extracurriculars except shadowing. This semester was spent obsessively working on my groups capstone project in addition to other classes because I had members who decided to do no work and I had to pick up the slack.

Came out with an upward trend in my GPA for the past few years which I'm happy about, but I'm really doing anything that I can to improve my chances if I need to reapply. I just found out that a dean from a close medical school is going to write me a letter of recommendation for the next cycle, it's just a shame that it won't help with this cycle.

That would be awesome though! I know it stinks to have to wait another year but sometimes it's worth it. I've been trying to tell myself that things will work out the way they are supposed to. I wish you luck!!

On another note....I suppose no one has heard anything yet?

Hello and congrats to those who are coming in off the waitlist and also to those who are choosing other options for their medical education!

I just want to put another mention out about the FB group - if you are accepted and would like to join, please PM me with the email address you use for your facebook account. You'll get a response and an invite via email within a few days.

I had a meeting with my prehealth advisor earlier today. Apparently someone from my school got accepted here last week off the waitlist.

Based on the fb group does it seem that there will be movement on the waitlist??

I got in off the waitlist this morning! OOS (interviewed in late march). Best of luck to those still waiting!!

Congrats!! Did u send LOI's or anything?

I actually did. I know they aren't very receptive to them but I sent one anyways at the end of April thinking it couldn't hurt. No clue if it made a difference.

Nice! Congrats again! If you don't mind me asking, based on what u can tell from the Facebook group, do u think there will continue to be movement? Sorry to be annoying...
