From threads of the last few years, looks like there have been quite a few alternate acceptances by this point in april. Anyone heard of any so far ?

My guess is that they offered additional acceptances at the time that final decisions were made last week. (One person on SDN posted that they received an acceptance on Friday.) Last year, final decisions were in mid-March, so the alternate list had moved a bit by this point. When comparing things to past years, I would think that we have to ignore everything prior to mid-April.

Personally, I expect acceptances from the waitlist will move slowly until closer to May 15th. Hopefully, the lateness of the final decisions won't adversely affect the waitlist movement too much.

Thats what I was thinking. I was hoping that maybe those acceptances were "would be" upper alternates, and that they have technically already moved down the list

Since the alternate list came out later, I don't think you can compare that way. And, since the alternate list came out the same day as some acceptances, then those acceptances may have people who had been WL's, but were accepted before the list came out.

I've never heard that UAB gives need-based grants. I've heard that there are some merit-based awards for high MCAT students. "Free" aid for med school is usually merit based. Other aid is usually loans.

Been lurking on here for a long time, and I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring with everyone else. Is everybody thinking that UAB has fewer people on the upper tier due to late outright acceptances or that there are just an unusually low number of SDNers on that tier?

I would also imagine that some in the upper tier have another acceptance. Some may have removed themselves from the WL and have gone with their acceptance.

BTW.....does anyone here have any UAB apartment suggestions? This is what I'd like:

2 BR
2 Bath
Inside laundry (provided or hook-ups) Don't want community laundry.
be able to walk or bike to UAB SOM
Cost....up to about $1000 a month for the entire unit (split cost with a apt-mate)
South or East of the SOM
SAFE and nice, but doesn't have to be luxury-like.

wow. It seems almost crazy that you're bottom third. Did you try to do some primary med shadowing this year and send in an update?

No I didn't. I'm starting this week with family medicine shadowing though. All of my other extracurriculars were very strong so I got over confident and didnt family practice shadow.
