Yeah I don't know. My LOR's should be great but Made b's in organic. A's on all others. I'm still staying positive. The waits getting to me though.

I wonder if the B's in OChem is the issue??? If you do end up on the WL, you should still end up in the upper tier. Did you do volunteer work? shadowing?

Yes I work as an emt but also have a good many volunteer hours doing that. 2 years Of research experience

I thought today would be the day for sure. 🙁

Me too. I'm encouraged though by the fact that I'm not the only one that hasn't heard anything. Surely we're not all rejected! I have faith in us!

After seeing your MCAT and the other poster's MCAT and other info , I wonder how I got accepted. 😕

The rubric must be more different than we think.

Did you people have Committee Letters?

Ok...It seems to me that either UASOM isn't done with acceptances, they'll end up digging into the WL, or they're doing something different this year. In the past, instate acceptance rates of interviewed students has been very high. So, one would guess that an interviewed instate student with 30+ MCAT and strong GPAs would be a near-lock. Right?

I wish...I have a 4.0 bcpm, 4.0 c with 2 majors, and 32 MCAT and got rejected last year. I know it wasn't my research, volunteering or extracurriculars because I dedicated my entire undergrad years to those. You would be shocked how much weight the interview actually has!

the interview has a LOT to do with your acceptance. verbal and non-verbal cues, timeliness to the interview, etc.

There has got to be a way to make waiting more entertaining....anyone up for betting on what day the final decisions will come out? 🙂

Whenever it is, it won't be soon enough. I'm assuming you guys haven't heard of anyone being notified of the alternate list being out?

I'm not sure if they do or not but the fact that no one else has heard means that we all still have hope for the alternate list at least.

I think last year the rejection emails came a couple of days after the alternate list came out. But yes I think we r all safe for now. No news so far.

Has anyone called and asked if they're done with acceptances for now?

Anyone know what the numbers have been in the past as far as number of interviewees that are accepted, wait listed, and rejected?

https://www.uab.edu/medicine/home/about-som/facts-figures

This link has the break down of interviewees accepted and then the size of the entering class (which is much smaller comparatively). Maybe size of the waitlist is a little over the number accepted minus the size of the entering class? Who knows- hope it helps though.

I'm not sure there's any point in doing that. I just think they'll tell us they have until the 30th to make final decisions.

Because in the past, when people have called SOMs, some have gotten firm answers.

I actually called and asked if they were done with final acceptances about 2 weeks ago and the secretary just read the paragraph straight off the website "information for current applicants." Yea no info at all haha...

All interviewed applicants who are not accepted will remain under consideration for admission until the Admissions Committee makes final decisions by March 30th. At that time, all applicants currently under consideration will be notified of their final status, either accepted, assigned to the alternate list or notified they are no longer under consideration.

Just got this off their web page. 🙂

I think it's safe to assume they are waiting until the end of March (this Friday) at this point. They likely want as many people as possible to decline acceptance before issuing their final acceptances/waitlist. So Friday it is.

The great Ralph speaks again and all is understood. I'm surprised they didn't cast you as Oz the Great and Powerful

I think it will be Friday as well. I appreciate all of these comments and suggestions. They have helped me get through this awful wait. Thanks to all of you, and please keep posting.

I agree. Knowing I'm not the only one waiting to hear is quite comforting.

Hello all, I am a MS-2 at UAB and I wanted to let those of you looking for housing that the condo I am renting will be available in the middle/end of June. I attached the link for the condo below and if anyone is even slightly interested send me a PM with some contact info and I can pass it along directly to my landlord, instead of you having to go through the real estate company first. Some quick highlights of the place: water/sewer/garbage included in rent (awesome), washer/dryer included in unit (double awesome), and ~8 blocks from campus (15 min walk, 5 min bike/car).

I also posted here a few weeks back if anyone wanted any advice/what to expect at UAB, the offer is still good, although I know next to nothing about waitlist/acceptance/admission stuff. They don't let us know about any of that. Good luck to all of you guys and gals.

Anybody know of any good apartment complexes for professional students around UASOM?

I have lower stats than you, but I have a very good resume and I was accepted in early December. It definitely seems very random how they accept people. You have to remember that they use the whole person approach now, rather than merely basing everything on stats.

Are you looking for within walking distance or within short driving distance? I've been in Birmingham for almost 7 years working on my undergrad and graduate degrees, so I ow the are fairly well.

Yes, I realize that they look at the whole person, but supposedly they use a rubric that's X MCAT.....Y GPA.....and Z interview.....and the max is 10 pts. But there must be something else, or some just aren't getting good interview scores.

Don't they add some many points for the "uniqueness" of your app. What I mean by that is, the "whole person" aspect. I think South does it merely by stats, but I think UA adds points for your application too. Honestly, I am not sure about this, but I think they mentioned it at the interview. However, I interviewed in very early October, so my memory could be deceiving me.

I interviewed in early Oct as well, so maybe I'm not remembering what details were said.

I do think that UA does have some discretion to add pts for various things.

When did you interview? I was there Oct 8.
