Yep. Hoping against hope that it's something like "Hey, we'll wait until we can accept x number of individuals before we let people know". Idk... just trying not to lose hope lol.
 
I was just accepted to UAB. I was originally told I was in the lower 3rd tier but the email acceptance I received today said there was an error and I was actually on the middle 3rd.

Based on what I can gather from the email it does appear that they accept the next in line after a previous acceptance is withdrawn. It didn't appear to support the idea that they send out group accepts once a certain number of slots open up.

Anyway, pretty surprised to say the least. I was fortunate to be accepted to USA and my wife (and kids) and I were pretty far into our plan to move to Mobile. I'm not sure if our plans will change but we definitely have an unexpected decision to make.

Best of luck to those still waiting. This may help explain why the lower 3rd of the alternate list was unusually long. It may be something for the rest of you on the lower 3rd to look into to see if there were similar errors with your ranking.

Congrats man! That's awesome! I do have one question, when you were told you were lower third, did it also say that on your secondary application as well?

I am almost positive that it also said lower 3rd when I logged into my account on UAB's website. It has been a while but I am very confident it was consistent with the email I received telling me I was on the wait list (whenever that was...a few weeks ago...).

Anyone check to see if their status was correct? I feel like they might have checked everyone else's status after they realized yours was wrong, guspilgrim. But, who knows
 
has anyone received feedback already to reapply? if so, how was it? also, is it such a bad thing to do it via email? my time to be in bham is limited so i feel that would be easier, but i dont want to sell myself short.

I too asked for email feedback, but I still have not received any information. I spoke to Cathy O'Malley, and she stated I was number 18 on a list of 36. She also said the committee reviews about 6 applicants a week. I spoke to her about three weeks ago.

Does that mean that you're #18 on the WL at this point? Are there currently 17 on the WL ahead of you? Or have some of those 17 students already been accepted?

I just looked at your profile. Did you only apply to 2 SOMs? Did you ever find out why South didn't interview you? That seems strange.

South did interview me, and I am on the waitlist there. I haven't updated my profile recently. But, I was rejected by UAB when the waitlist came out.

The list I was referring to in my previous post is the list for rejected students awaiting feedback from UAB. I'll update as soon as I'm contacted by UAB.
 
For anyone who has requested feedback and not gotten it, what are you thinking right now? Since AMCAS opened two days ago, isn't the clock against us? I feel like feedback should be quicker, since I am wanting to improve my app before the next submission
 
I wouldn't worry too much about not having feedback before submitting AMCAS again. From what I hear UAB doesn't even review reapplicants until January, so you have plenty of time to send an update letter. It is pretty ridiculous how long the feedback process takes, though.
 
If SDN is a decent sample population, UAB appears to have gotten to the middle of the middle third, which is usually as far as they get. I would think this either means that they will get farther into the wait list than they typically do or that movement is pretty much finished. I fear the latter, but UAB has done a good job of confusing me this entire cycle so who knows?
 
Also, for what it's worth, I know of a guy from several years ago that got a call the day classes started asking if he could be there that day. He got in his car immediately and drove from Mobile. His Mother came later in the day with his stuff, got him a hotel room and then an apartment. So who knows?? And I agree, UAB is not good on communications with those of us who were not their top choices.

I'm middle tier wait list. I personally know a student in the 2016 class who got in 2-3 weeks before med school started. And also I know of verified story where a student was accepted after classes began, but this was many years ago. So there is a little bit of hope. However, I'm planning for the worst.

I fear the latter as well. I had hope until it stopped about two weeks ago. Time for the next application cycle 😡
 
I am....this will be my third time applying.... I'm waiting to send in my AMCAS cause I want to hear their feedback before I do.

I requested feedback pretty early on and was told that the major part of my application that was lacking was community service. To help with this I started up a mentoring engagement and will begin a weekly volunteering position at a local hospital next month. Dr. Smith also said my research was somewhat lacking, but when I told him about the projects I've gotten on over this past year he said it wasn't a priority. I think I didn't come off very well in the interview, so I'm definitely going to prep a lot more this time around.

Has anyone gotten their email feedback yet? Last time I emailed UAB I was told I'd be getting it within the week. And that over was a month ago.

I just talked to Cathy O'Malley. She stated that all the feedback requests have been completed and will be emailed next week.
 
I got my application feedback earlier today. Hopefully, everyone will receive theirs soon as well.

I emailed yesterday and was told I'd have my feedback yesterday or today... still nothing. :/
