This is where having a shift work job comes in handy... really looking forward to Cincinnati's second look! Didn't expect to really care too much about second look but I think it could sway my decision (and give me a chance to sell my SO on living in Cincinnati!). Bummed that you guys can't make it, though, and probably a bunch of other people who work normal hours.

Finally got the official rejection email.

Good luck to those waiting on a decision!

I'm not sure if I'll be going - I may be in a cabin in the woods by then. But the schedule seems very day-trip friendly soooo.. we shall see!

Rejected today pre-interview. Completely forgot that I applied here. Nice rejection letter though.

I don't have anything to say re: your comment. But I just had to tell you that it makes me happy inside every time I see your avatar. Ten will always be my doctor. 😍

Yay! I agree. I've been rewatching his episodes recently. 😍

Not to derail the thread. Hope your husband (that's who's applying, right?) has a fortunate rest of the cycle!

Got the rejection email today even though I withdrew a while back.

Thanks. We're in a hotel right now in Wyoming with our 4yo. On our way to OH for a Cinci interview Tuesday and Toledo on Thursday. My family is in Ohio, so we decided to all come along for a visit. Cinci is just for a wait list spot, but that's better than a kick in the face.

When do they rank the alternate list? Got alt listed back in October.

Best of luck! I know someone who interviewed at one of the last interview days, got waitlisted and eventually accepted. Hope you have the same luck, and enjoy your cross-country trip!

I think it should be sometime within the next month...? Sorry I can't be of more use.

Has anyone received a decision from the March 1st interview yet?

Wait-listed today. Can anyone offer advice on how to get accepted from here? UC is tied for my #1 choice!

So anyone from the March 1st interview date hear anything yet?

Did any accepted applicants recieve a follow-up email concerning second look? I read in the email from last week that we were supposed to recieve another email with more details this week...

Thanks!

I didn't get another email, but I did come across this...

Hope that helps!

Alternate listed today. Interviewed on 3/1. Anyone get lucky?

Alternate as well but a friend got accepted. Both interviewed on 3/1.

Does anybody have the most current estimate of spots left? I interviewed on 3/12, and I don't remember exactly, but I think it was mentioned that there were <20 spots left.

Hey guys, does anyone know how far along we should be as far as financial aid stuff goes? I've filled out the FAFSA and requested the maximum amount for the Stafford loan. Also, are there any other forms or materials that ya'll are getting together? Thanks!

I believe that there is a checklist in MedOneStop. Once you sign in instead of clicking on your application status click one of the tabs at the top that says "financial aid" ( or something like that) and it will tell you what they have received and what they still need from you.

Hi All,

Just withdrew my acceptance. Hopefully one of you gets it!
Oh, and I'm OOS, just in case that matters.

Yesssssss! (I'm OOS on the WL) Thanks for letting us know, and all the best at whichever school you're choosing to attend!

Has anybody heard anything about scholarships and/or financial aid?

Husband got on the WL. Do they use the same email text for everybody who gets wait listed?

Darn, got waitlisted too; interviewed 3/12 🙁
Any idea when they rank the list?
I hope there'll be some good movement before 5/15...

Can any current students talk about changing from another state's residency to Ohio residency? Do you need to hold a part-time job during the first year of medical school in order to be considered "financially independent"? How difficult is the process?

I just called in. Apparently, they're not going to start ranking the wait list until after May 15, so probably around mid to end May. Enjoy the wait.

No. You just need to work in the state of Ohio during the summer between M1 and M2.
If your parents are planning on helping with expenses, be aware they can't help the first year or can only help to a certain degree.

How difficult is the process?
The financial aid offices helps out. They tell you exactly what you need to do to become a resident.

There is also the option of living in northern kentucky where you can get instate+~$150 all four years.

I'm not sure if UC's policy is the same as OSUs, but there will probably be a limit on how many days you can spend outside of the state for your first year. I know that OSU only allows you to be gone for 30 days during the year to be considered an in state resident.

On a separate note, can any students speak to the Global Health opportunities at UC? I know other schools have talked about international health programs and their opportunities abroad, but I didn't get any of that from UC and I can't find anything about it online.

Anyone know the precise Cost of Attendance (COA) for IS at U Cincinnati and that compared to OSU's COA?

There is a partnership with a hospital in Germany for a 4th year elective abroad. There is a program to go to Tanzania b/w M1 and M2 (Village Life Outreach) as well as one or two other summer programs that I don't remember exactly. Some students have found other opportunities such as a summer program in the Czech Republic where they got to work in the neurosurgery department and experience true socialized medicine and see the benefits and pitfalls.

http://med.uc.edu/StudentServices/FinancialServices/CostOfAttendance.aspx

Assume a 3.5% tuition increase each year which will most likely also be seen at OSU.

Hey ucbsmd or another current student,
I noticed that UC has an MPH program, but I never heard anything about a dual degree program or even anyone doing the MPH program to complement their MD. Do you know if this is something that people can arrange?

There is nothing official, just PhD/MD, MBA/MD and MS Nutrition/MD. Since the MPH is 18-24 months in length, you would have to get the 2 years off approved. I would imaging they would, but I don't know of anyone currently pursuing this.

Ucbsmd could probably speak better to this than I could, but I remember Dr. Bennett saying that they have an MPH program that students can complete between years 2 and 3 or students can also take a year off and go get a degree at another university.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Does anyone know when the wait list gets ranked into "tiers"? I emailed someone at admissions to ask, and they said they don't place the wait list into tiers 😕. Assuming Dean Manuel didn't completely misspeak, I think that person was misinformed.

Guy above mentioned it's post-May15th.

I'm AL as well.

Just got a "Congratulations on your placement on the Alternate List" email. Not sure if that was sent to everyone placed on the wait list or not, but I wanted to share either way. 🙂

+1

Does anyone know how many people are on the alternate list?

I got it too. Why are they congratulating us if we haven't been offered anything yet? Hopefully we will see a lot of wait list movement this year.

I just called, they don't publish that information. They also said that they will tell you which tier you are in by the 3rd week of May.
