Congrats to the newest invitees. Please don't bombard the admissions office with calls. It makes NO difference.

Yeah, I don't think CU is receptive to LOIs either. They have a lot of apps to get through! They told us interviewees could bring an update to hand to interviewers in person but nothing pre-interview as I understand it.

Congrats everyone!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hey guys,

For anyone who has already interviewed and did not hear back on 12/12, don't read too much into it. This is what happened to me and I just called the Office of Admissions to see if it meant anything. They said there is no rhyme or reason to who they give news to first, so just be patient.

I'm not sure if anyone else was panicked when they didn't hear back, but I doubt I'm the only neurotic person in this forum haha. Good luck to everyone applying!

Every time I hear about someone else being accepted, it makes me feel like one of those little toy aliens in Toy Story. "THE CLAW, OOOOOHHHHH."

Yes. Exactly.

...except I feel like one of those little aliens from 'Alien' is exploding out of my chest...

🙂

I feel the application process is more akin to LOTR than anything else. There is the all-seeing Eye of admissions, and me cast as widdle Frodo from the Shire, totally unsuited for the psychological and physical blitzkrieg that is the transport of my application across the hinterlands. The keen, snarky Gandalf is SDN.

The first rejection leaves a wound like that of the wraith blade, but if I muster the strength to recover, I'll find it affords me deeper insight into the dark arts of med school admissions panels.

Shelob...I don't think I've encountered her yet. Maybe on interview day.

Did everyone who failed to submit a secondary get a letter encouraging them to go ahead and submit it by the deadline? Just want to see if this letter is exclusive to those who have sufficient stats or if it's something they are sending out to all as a money making tactic?
Thanks!

I got one too - not sure what to think of it

Does anyone have any idea how many Presidential Scholarships are offered to accepted applicants? Just curious. 😉

Any current Colorado students:

I've been accepted to a few places and I was wondering if you could help me find out a little bit more about the school from your perspective. Why did you ultimately want to go to Colorado? what you like about Colorado? What you dislike... How long are you in classes... how well you think the school prepares you for securing a competitive residency match.. any info you have would be greatly appreciated!

They gave out a round of acceptances at Christmas. I also interviewed 12/15 and haven't heard. Hang in there!

How'd you find that out? Do you know when? Also interviewed 12/15 and haven't heard.

If you check back a few pages to around that time you'll see that there were some people who got acceptances. Most acceptances come out in March though so hang in there! We are all in this wait together.

Edit this is a reply to desphil sorry phone didn't let me quote properly.

When does CU send out their last IIs?

Last year, the majority of invites went out by the end of January. It seemed like the last large batch went out around the 30th. Then about the first week of February they added one interview day and sent out a couple more invites. All the rejections came out about the day of the last interviews. Obviously, every year will be different but I think its a safe bet that the last of the invites would be given out by the end of the month.

The last mention of an acceptance in this thread was a post on 12/14 referring to an acceptance on 12/12.

Hey SDNers, this is really a last minute question. I am interviewing with AMC tomorrow, and I notice they allow me to bring application updates to the interviewers. I read from other threads that an update letter usually consists of activity and grade updates as well as some kind of statement of continuing interests in the school. In this case, however, does it really make sense to write about what I like about the school, given that I will probably be asked about that question tomorrow during my interview? Thank you very much for your help!

Um...I thought AMC is Albany Medical College...but this is in the University of Colorado thread...so....:idea:

I interviewed at CU a few months ago. I brought an update letter but didn't end up using it, I had emailed a copy a few weeks before my interview and everyone seemed up to speed (although I barely recall discussing my current gap year research). A good update letter is about a page, and you don't want to spend precious interview time sitting there and watching someone read a letter (and they really move you quick through those rooms at AMC) when you could be talking about yourself. Bring the letter, hand it off to an administrator, keep a copy on hand for the interviews just in case, and email a copy to the office so that it can be attached to your electronic file. Anything important can be discussed as it comes up, just explain that you have yet to send it in an update letter.

Good luck!

Ah, thank you very much, pomona. I didn't see your post last night though, but here's what I did (and plan to do):

I submitted a copy of my one page application updates (just updates, no statement of interests what-so-ever) to each of my interviewer at the end of my interview sessions. I plan to send a formal thank you letter to the admissions committee, in which I will talk about how the school will be a great fit for me and how I like about the school (so kind of like a letter of interest).

What do you think? Is this overkill, since I have already talked about my interests in Colorado during my interview?

For CU I sent hand-written thank-you notes to my interviewers c/o of the admissions office, and I also sent a letter to the office administrator thanking her too. Definitely email the plain update letter immediately, in case the hard copies do not make it to their intended destination. I would say that if CU is definitely your top choice or if you just think it fits better than most other schools, go ahead and write the letter of interest and attach it to your updates. If you are concise, I can't see it hurting you (try not to repeat anything you wrote in your essays, but I am sure repeating stuff you mentioned in the interview would be fine). I myself have not sent any school-specific letters of interest at this point, but I think that Jan-Feb-March is a the perfect time for them to go out (especially for CU, which makes the bulk of its admissions in early March).

Will do, haha.

Hi!

I interviewed on 12/15 and was accepted via phone call on 12/24. I don't have any info on how many acceptances went out at that time, but I know at the time of the interview they had offered about half of the available spots in the class (~80). But they said they offer about 250 by the end, so still lots of good news to be heard! Sorry if any of this is redundant from previous posts! Also, I am IS and this was my top choice school. Facilities were incredibly modern and I loved the atmosphere. Good luck to everyone!

I'm dying! Any news on whether there will be any more II?

How often is the waitlist reviewed? Is it possible for students to be accepted off of the waitlist prior to May 15?

I doubt it. Those applicants who are waitlisted don't actually get waitlisted until near the end of March. Then they school waits to see how many of the accepted applicants actually choose to accept the offer of admission before they start pulling people off the waitlist.

how late does Colorado interview and send out invites till?

Second look details are out! April 19th, 2013. 👍 Who's going???
😍

To anyone who sent CU a letter of interest, who did you send your letter to? I thought in the interview Ms. Patel asked us to correspond directly with her but I wasn't sure if I misheard. I feel like sending it straight to the admissions office is a safe bet otherwise.

Congrats to all the new acceptees!
