Same here. Maybe they have to do it manually. I got the confirmation email, though, so it's all good.

Mine has posted already, but I was a student at the HSC previously. One of the numbers listed to put in the payment site was my old student ID. I wonder if that made mine go through quickly, maybe they have to create an account for new students... Not sure. I wouldn't expect anything more to happen until the university reopens after the break on the 2nd.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted!

I had a question about the the COM's right to rescind its admissions offers to accepted students. It says on the acceptance form that one must "satisfactorily complete all prerequisites and additional requirements" and that the offer is "contingent upon your successful completion of all entrance requirements and providing the College of Medicine a final transcript by July 19, 2013, documenting that you have maintained the standards, academic and personal, that led to your acceptance."

The reason I ask is because some schools have specific grade point averages you need to obtain to keep a spot in the class while others are more laid back and basically just require you to successfully graduate. The wording is a little vague here. Have people been rejected from OU after acceptance offers in the past? Is it alright if you slip up once senior year but maintain an overall solid academic record?

not sure whether calling the admissions office is a good idea

Don't take my word for it, but I'm pretty sure that OU is fairly lax on these requirements. As long as you don't fail a class (below a C), I think you will be fine. However, there's nothing wrong with calling anonymously and asking. 😉

Is anyone interested in living at the Lincoln next year with me and a friend?

Costs would be around $350/mo. We're quiet (except for the occasional weekend), responsible, and all that jazz.

PM me!

We're dudes.

LOL thanks Black Mamba24! I really appreciate it 😀

I was really sick for a week during finals and did poorly on one exam, got a pretty bad grade in that class but what can I do. Hopefully the rest of my grades will show that it was just a one time thing...

just excited about OU since I'm not originally from OK! anyone thinking about living in the village? being able to walk to class after an all night zombie mode sounds kinda nice 😛

The website still hasn't processed my deposit. I paid it on the 23rd.

I think the admissions office might be closed or not doing much over xmas/new years break because I tried calling their office and no one answered

It looks fantastic but I'm guessing there's a nice wait list from what I've read. Can't hurt to email them though.

i'm looking for nearby apartments from out of state and I was hoping someone could recommend nearby studio/one bedroom apartments. I like the Village but I haven't been able to contact anyone for the past few weeks, and I would like to have a back up.

i'm looking for nearby apartments from out of state and I was hoping someone could recommend nearby studio/one bedroom apartments. I like the Village but I haven't been able to contact anyone for the past few weeks, and I would like to have a back up.

Here's a general breakdown of the complexes where most students live:

Campus
University Village. 10ish minute walk to class. Offers studio and two bed/one bath apartments. Price is $559/mo for studios, $867/mo for 2br. If you're interested in these, apply now because from what I've heard, they fill up very quickly. The only complaints I've heard is that they're pretty small (not sure about exact square footage, but floor plans are on their website) and the wifi isn't that great.http://village.ou.edu/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/

Bricktown
Deep Deuce. 7-8 minute drive to campus. Offers 1 and 2br options. Price varies depending on square footage, floor plan, etc, but expect around $950/mo for a 1br, and $1100-1400/mo for a 2br. Pricey, yes, but within walking distance of Bricktown, Chesapeake area, and very close to I-235 for convenience. http://village.ou.edu/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/

Level Urban Apartments. Right across the street from Deep Deuce. Opened Summer 2012. Offers 1 and 2 br options. Similar to Deep Deuce, except rates are only around $850-900 a month. Level also offers a parking garage, unlike DD, where I believe you have extra for covered parking or a garage. Also a little farther away from the highway (1-2 blocks), which I guess could help with road noise. My take: I've been in a couple of these, and they're really nice. Having a Native Roots Market downstairs is also pretty cool, if you're into natural and locally-grown food. I believe quite a few residents live here as well. http://www.levelokc.com/

Farther from campus
The Lincoln. 4 miles from campus. A majority of my classmates live here compared to the other apartments that I've mentioned (could be due to several factors--availability, perceived convenience, etc). 1, 2, and 3 br options. Prices are variable, but they're pretty much on par with the DD and Level rates. Definitely more square feet for the price, but if you live in a 1 br, that space is almost too much, honestly. Pros, you'll be living with other members of your class, and the apartments are large. Cons, no covered parking; traffic on Lincoln goes past the Capitol, making travel time a little longer; college students also live at the Lincoln, meaning some nights can be a lot louder than others, especially around the pool. http://www.thelincolnatcentralpark.com/

Non-apartments
If you want to live in a house off campus, I suggest living west of I-235, probably around 23rd street. There are a lot of rent houses available; however, some are nice, while some are definitely not. Anything east of 235 is really, really sketch. Just don't do it.

I know there are other places that I've missed, but this is a general overview of where most people I know live. There are also condos available downtown, but these are very pricey even compared to apartment rates. Hopefully this gives you a good idea of where to live in OKC. Message or comment if you have any questions; I'll do my best to reply ASAP.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE INFO! CuttingCorneas you are awesome 👍

chiquita2468 & coyotelime: same situation here i heard about the wait list but no one seems to be answering the phone or emails in both the housing and admissions office. i have yet to receive the red acceptance mail because I recently moved and amcas had my old address. I've been calling/emailing the admissions office but everyone's most likely gone for the holidays. just been checking my online acceptance, deposit receipt, and acceptance email non-stop to make sure that this isn't some twisted joke or mistake hehe 😳
hopefully we'll be able to contact them soon 🙂

hope everyone had a wonderful xmas/new years! just a lot of eating, sleeping, and more eating 😀 college has taught me that nothing beats being with family, and of course, eating/sleeping

Does Level offer a student discount? It looks like ~$1200 for a 2BD

Website still says that they haven't received my deposit. I might have to shoot an email their way. 😎

EDIT: Deposit finally processed today 🙂

Not that I know of. The only one I know of for sure is the Lincoln, but I don't remember how much it is. $50/mo, maybe?

So I just got invited to an interview on the 10th of this month. This is my first year to apply and my first interview... Kinda scared, lol. Words of encouragement or advice from anyone would be great!

The student guides were really helpful! Just review your stuff and relax! 🙂

+1

I would also say that the interview was probably the most laid back one that I've had. Like zheng said, know your application inside and out. Also, be sincere in everything that you say and be nice to everyone there. They really do just want to get to know you. Oh, and good luck! 👍🙂

Agreed with what others have said. It's normal to be a tad nervous in the beginning, but make sure your answers sound natural, relatively unrehearsed, and most importantly be confident in what you say.

Remember they are selling themselves to you just as much as you are to them. In that way, it's like to date to determine compatibility. If you love the school, let them know and explain why you'd be a good fit (a few aspects of OU COM are pretty unique imo, for instance they have families of cadavers talk to you before starting anatomy lab).

You'll be fine. Good luck!

I will see you there, then. I also have an interview on the 10th. This isn't my first interview, and I've been accepted elsewhere, but there is still some stress. The most important thing to do is to be yourself and to present your passion for medicine. You wouldn't have been invited to interview if they didn't see something in your application that they liked. Keep that in mind and you will do great!!! Best of luck!!!

Thank you CuttingCorneas! Very very helpful!

i have yet to receive the red acceptance mail because I recently moved and amcas had my old address. I've been calling/emailing the admissions office but everyone's most likely gone for the holidays.

I have moved since I submitted my AMCAS as well, so I haven't received the big red folder either. Do you think its worth calling admissions and seeing if they'll send another one or should I take my chances with the USPS?

Also, does anyone know when second look day is? (apologies if it was in the red packet)

Also, does anyone know when second look day is? (apologies if it was in the red packet)

There wasn't anything about it in the red envelope, it was just an official acceptance letter, no other papers, info, or forms.

What exactly does second look day entail?

From what I understand its like interview day, minus the interview. They're trying to sell you on the school in case you are holding multiple acceptances and need another look to make your final decision. More handouts, tours, lunch, white coat fitting, that whole thing, and maybe a chance to meet some future classmates if you ultimately decide on OU.

This is all just what I've heard, nobody I know who is currently at OU went to the second look day.

The Lincoln is absolutely the best cost-to-quality apartment complex. The drive to the school takes about 10 minutes and has exactly zero turns.

It's just far enough out of the city proper that it's safer and more secure, and it's gated. Virtually half the complex is filled with OUHSC students, which is a plus.

I'm a MS2, by the way.

I remember I was so nervous the first 2 min of the interview was a blur and wasn't sure if I was speaking engrish or not haha
The best advice I can give is to be personable. You are a hardworker and an awesome student, but more importantly, a wonderful person. It's crucial for the interviewers to get the sense that you are not this pre-med robot who can regurgitate facts but an empathetic human being passionate about what you want to do in the future (which you are of course 😉 )

it's completely fine to smile and laugh to make it seem more casual 🙂 the interviewers are all very nice and aren't there to torture us, they understand interviews are nerveracking. just take a deep breath and be yourself! Best of luck to everyone interviewing! 👍

I'm going to call them this coming monday. My phones been acting up (dead now) and so I might have missed a call from them (I left a voice message a few days ago) It's a relief that there wasn't much in the red folder, I was afraid it had some important financial aid info 😀

Speaking of financial aid, does anyone know when decisions are made regarding financial aid? I've started to fill out the FAFSA, so I am curious.

according to their website May 1 for submissions made by march 1

I made a call today and no answer still... well im just going to cancel my other interviews and pray that my OU acceptance is solid (have the email and online page so I guess that's enough confirmation without the hard copy mail)

im looking into housing and the village said that they are currently full and have a waiting list. hmm, so I'm guessing it'll have to be lincoln or some other place (maybe in edmond). not sure about level apartments, are they even done with construction?

fafsa already? I guess I should start working on mine too. nice to see you again loan packages.

For those who have already interviewed, do you mind posting some questions they asked you, and how the closed/open file portions differed? I'm interviewing this week, and would appreciate any feedback.

I've looked at the interview feedback page for OU on SDN, but I wanted to see if there's any specific feedback about this year's interviews that could help me.

all of my questions were very specific to my app and experiences. just relax and good luck!

I know there's that to a certain degree, but I'd appreciate any specific examples.

I agree with the poster above you, but I do remember one question that they asked me. It was "If you had 24 hours all to yourself, what would you do, who would you do it with, and why?" Talking with other interviewers, it seemed like I was the only person to get that question. I thought it was an interesting question that I had never really thought about before.

For the most part, I felt that the interviewers really try to cater their questions to something that is unique about the applicant (stands out in the personal statement). I got questions about my experience shadowing a military physician, about my experience living overseas, etc. I did get questions about my research, both lab work and social, so if you were involved in research be sure to know exactly what it is about and why you do it (or how you got into it). Other questions are more generic ones like "why do you want to be a doctor" and "where do you see yourself in the future". An important part is to include somewhere in your response why you want to attend OU specifically. They are looking for a good fit so if you don't really show a sincere interest in wanting to attend the school, they'll notice.

Does anyone know when the next (and final) board meeting is? The admissions phone has gone straight to voicemail for a week and they're not responding to emails.

I would like to know this information as well... but then maybe I don't. I don't want a repeat of December. I practically made myself sick.

I called. The board is meeting tomorrow. We won't know until early February, I'm not sure why the wait.

According to admissions, there are 30 slots left, 60 deferred students, and 60 new interviewees. They plan to wait-list 60. So there's only a 33% of being rejected at this juncture.

What were your stats again? Female? URM?

Early interviewees are ranked higher academically than the January folks, so unless their interviews were very strong, it does not look great for them.

*edit* Oh, I also made myself sick last time. Physically sick. I didn't leave my bedroom for 3 days, it was pathetic. This time, it's not as bad, but I've been very depressed. Some of my best friends have been accepted as PhD candidates at top universities, and here I am potentially taking a gap year for medical school. It's been a rough year. Best of luck to you.

Sorry to hear that bro. Best of luck. I'll be waiting for the celebratory status in a few weeks! 👍😀

The suspense is killing me. 😱 I just interviewed January 9th.

It's nice to hear that there are still 30 possible slots though. 😀

Good Luck to all that are waiting... I was an OOS candidate accepted in DecemberAll things are Possible.... I look forward to seeing all of you next year at OU BoomerSooner

Cost to square footage, maybe. Cost to quality, not really. Trust me, read the reviews online.

About the gate, it depends if it's working or not. DD and Level have gates as well, and they're in very safe areas with security surveillance, so it's not like you're going to be living in the downtown OKC hood.

im looking into housing and the village said that they are currently full and have a waiting list. hmm, so I'm guessing it'll have to be lincoln or some other place (maybe in edmond). not sure about level apartments, are they even done with construction?

As far as I know, there's no construction going on at Level or Deep Deuce. I believe, however, that there's a hotel going in across the street from Level, which should be completed this summer. Like I said above, though, everything is gated so you shouldn't have to worry about safety.

AJH30 covered it pretty well, but I can give some more details. From what I remember, there's an intro presentation about what school will be like, as well as a Q&A with current students about where to live and different classes, courses, etc. followed by a financial aid presentation and an extended tour of the Clinical Skills Education and Testing Center (you should have seen this on interview day). What was great about the tour was being able to play around with different surgical simulators, practice CPR, and learn knot tying. We also used that time to talk to fourth year students about their experiences and the residency match process.

I would highly recommend going to Second Visit Day even if you're absolutely sure you'll be attending OU in the fall, if only to meet your future classmates and enjoy delicious breakfast goodness (seriously, OU's food was my favorite...not that I picked the school for the food or anything). 😳

Does anyone know the actual date of the Second Look Day for OU?

Does anyone know the actual date of the Second Look Day for OU?

Not yet, I haven't gotten any additional info since my letter came in the mail. I did get an email today asking me to fill out forms online for the AAMC background check.

Last year it was April 21st, if that helps. They sent out an invitation via email a month in advance (March 22nd).
