...Or are things a bit different these days? 😀

Game day bump.

Close score so far. Marquette will be tough at home. :scared:

Not looking too good. 🙁 Marquette beat us in OT earlier this season when we played at the Peterson. Crowd went nuts when we tied it up at the buzzer, but then we fell apart again.

Yep, the game ended up being a bummer.

Marquette is a solid team though, so it shouldn't knock the panthers out of the T25 rankings -- depending on how the rest of the weekend games go. Bright side is that, luckily, Notre Dame will be a home game!

...Along with these too...

Dyammmm! I had already been leaning towards Pitt; you may have pushed me over.

Pitt is my top choice that gave me an II, and I think it's an extremely underrated city...

But "Because it's a beautiful city!" should not be the reason you're choosing Pitt, or you are going to start getting really depressed in like, October lol. It's still Pittsburgh. But it's not like... CLEVELAND or anything....

I agree. Pitt is hands down my top choice. However, going to Pittsburgh because you thinks some pictures are pretty is a terrible idea. Its cold here. It rains constantly. The sky is grey from about late september to early June. I love winter weather so I can easily look past it, but some of my friends are constantly shivering!

I'm pretty sure that poster as joking. You guys really think someone is going to base the next 4 years of their life on a couple of pictures? No way compadre

Lol I know! I just don't want that poster to get their hopes up about the shining brightness of pittsburgh!

I'm pretty good at detecting sarcasm on the internet (hint: if you think it might be sarcasm, it's definitely sarcasm) and I legitimately think that it isn't sarcasm.

Secondly, If those pictures are pushing him/her towards Pitt, then he/she probably subconsciously wants to go there anyway.

Thirdly, people are "stupid," in that they sometimes so things for stupid reasons. If two schools are incredibly close in their mind, a few pictures absolutely COULD be the difference for one school inching ahead at any given moment.

+10000000000000000000000

I believe Pittsburgh either has more rainy days or more annual rainfall than Seattle, which is "The Rainy City." And it's practically winter from late October to mid April

But I still 😍 it!

Not that the MS1s really have that much time right now to go outside while dealing with microbiology... 😀

Hey now, gotta wait for the bus to go to all the mandatory PBL and lab sessions  I'd much rather podcast in the warmth and plentiful coffee of my apartment!

Great points, folks!

My prior Pitt homage collages were perhaps a bit too unbalanced, too... vibrant.

Here are some more of noirish material to help counterbalance things:

Does anyone have any idea when interview invites for the PSTP program go out?

I suspect they're out because I got an email asking for hosts, conveniently (*sarcasm*) early in of Step 1 study period. Not sure why it got sent to the MS2 class...

Amazing. There's a huge one right across the street from the med school (http://www.intramurals.pitt.edu/baierl.php) and then farther up the hill there's Trees Hall (with Olympic-size pool, weight rooms, rock climbing wall) and the Fitzgerald Field House (with an indoor track, basketball courts, etc).

I wouldn't quite say amazing...at least not compared to my undergrad gym. I sometimes have to wait for machines/equipment during the busy hours. I also wish that the hours were longer and that it didn't completely close over breaks.

There's also the Cost Center where people play soccer/flag football (large indoor turf field). The fields behind there are used when it's warmer out for soccer and ultimate.

 It's all I've known and it's a heck of a lot nicer than the gym I belonged to in my hometown. Depends on what you're used to. I just avoid the peak hours and I've never had to wait for anything.

I'm still blown away by Pitt's hospitality and friendliness. I received an e-mail today from Emily A. from admissions, who wrote about specific aspects of my application (in a way that would be hard to copy-and-paste) and asked if I had any questions. Not even my state school, which offered me a huge scholarship, did that. These little, pleasant human interactions are what really makes Pitt stand apart, in my mind. They seem to invest a lot of effort in courting their prospective students.

Well, it def looks like a step up from the dorm gym I'm forced to use now, which consists of... 2 treadmills, 1 bike, 1 elliptical, and free weights 10-50 lbs. No seats. No benches.

(Hey, they're the only gym option that doesn't require a valid student ID. :meanie:)

I'm jealous... Besides the formal letters, I haven't been getting courted.

Buuuut, then again, maybe they already know from my interview day that I require no courting... I was pretty blatant about my interest in the school, heh.

Don't feel bad--these personal emails may be coming out in batches. I received mine last week, so maybe it just takes time to compose one for each accepted applicant! I agree it was a very nice touch and reinforced the great vibe I had during interview day.

Oh it's not bad by any means. I just need to carefully plan the times that I go so that I don't get stuck waiting around for a cardio machine. 😛 Lunchtime and dinnertime are usually too crowded for my liking (and the week after all of the undergrads come back from winter break and want to lose weight hahah).

I'm so annoyed that the Backyard Brawl is gone. 😡 😡 😡

Def. It's always a shame when rivalries die. On another note, I'm aware of wvu's chant ("eat **** pitt!" ) Over and over, ad infinitum.

My question is: what did pitt chant at wvu? Did/do they have one?

Haha no idea. Brawl always fell on Thanksgiving weekend so I watched it from home all 4 years. But yeah a lot of schools use that chant against us...I'm sure it will be alive and well at the PSU game too

Pictures are just constructions of the photographer. That being said, Pittsburgh is not that nice weather-wise, especially during the winter months. It's grey overcast all the time. And it's not like Seattle where it's "nice" overcast — Pittsburgh is incredibly cold in the winters and super hot and humid in the summers. Late spring and early autumn, however, is pretty sweet. But overall, I went to UG in Pittsburgh and it certainly wasn't at the top of my choice of cities to return to.

The MD program at Pitt, however, is phenomenal from my impression at the interviews.

Just to put in my two cents about the weather: it's not that extreme.
Winter: slightly colder than Philadelphia; on the grand scheme of cold: not a problem (anyone ever been to upstate NY); pretty grey days
Summer: Warm, some humidity (dew point is 5 degF lower than Phila). If one has ever been to Washington (swamp!) or Florida (another swamp!) in the summer, this is a major step up.

Yeah, Washington DC summers are the absolute worst. Pittsburgh summers are more milder. But still colder in the winters 😛
