rejected pre-interview as well.. 3.8 MCAT 37-40 with solid ECs. I feel like they are looking for a very specific type of applicant that obviously I'm not haha

Wondering this too

It was extremely informal so I was under the impression that it was just an opportunity to allow the interviewees to get to know each other. One of the MS2s that was giving the tour said it was something new that they had just started either this year or last year, so maybe they are still trying to figure out how to incorporate it into the admissions process? 😕

So is no one else on here interviewing on the 29th? My flight gets in early afternoon on the 28th and I wanted to explore but not so much by myself.:lame:

I wish I was, I'm jealous! Where are you staying? I live right around the area and I can make some recommendations for places to explore if you let me know what you are interested in.

I'm staying at the Best Western since it's close to the school (And cheap). I'm not sure exactly what there is to explore. I just want to get a good feel for the place so any recommendations would be awesome.

Which will not include me. Noooo. 🙁

Aiyo, this process seems seriously brutal. It really looks like they're just rejecting randomly, I know someone who has a 3.9 GPA and a 40 MCAT who was rejected pre-interview from Rochester a couple of days ago. He was accepted to places like University of Chicago-Pritzker and had an interview at Harvard. 😳

Haha I am sure there is a method to their madness. Maybe they feel that people with stats like that see them as a backup school.

Yeah, I felt terrible about getting rejected but I instantly felt better when the likes of Tots got the axe as well. I wonder what their thought process is...

It's pretty clear, it's not random. His other interviews and acceptances are exactly why he was rejected: UR knows he's not going to end up going to their school, so why waste their time?

EDIT: My bad, just saw Mdtichen's comment above and it's the exact same sentiment as mine.

It has been completely random for me. I have Rochester's median stats and close connections to the community (as well as a cousin who went there) yet I've been interviewed at schools where my stats are are at far below the median and where they are above, and yet silence or rejections everywhere else. Did they just reject everyone that applied late or something? I applied 1st week of September.

For you, I admit, it is random, and I'm sorry it happened that way. My comment was mainly directed towards applicants with extreme high stats who are wondering why they were rejected. I'm sure you're going to end up somewhere great, good luck to you.

Haven't got the axe yet and I have pretty low stats. However, the same thing happened to me at Brown and USC and I was eventually rejected from them both.

I highly doubt they'd reject on high stats alone. They likely just don't think the higher stat applicants they did reject would fit the environment that well at Rochester. The 50th-90th percentile MCAT is a 33-37, which is still pretty high.

I was complete 9/23 (because my committee sent my letters in so late :-( )

Rejected 10/24

3.9/33

I doubt applying late helps, but who knows. I applied about a month ago, have lower-than-median stats, and I still haven't heard anything

I am sure that it wasn't random, they must have had their reasons. Call and ask if you are really wondering. I applied around the same time as you and haven't heard anything.

Yea, it just bugged me cuz one girl was a total healthcare experto and dominated the conversation while everybody else including myself was pretty quiet and only made marginal comments of agreement or shared our fave movies. Whatevs, tho. I hope it's just for kicks. If not, I'm probly done here.

I think you are taking us too literally. We were just venting. Unpredictable is a better word than random. That is the point we were trying to convey

I've been accepted to Rochester and while I may not have the best stats on SDN I do have a LizzyM of 79. So the process isn't just about stats or rejecting people pre-interview because they wouldn't attend because it's a "back up school." Rochester is a competitive school for an acceptance, especially when you consider its relatively small size compared to other "top" programs. Whether you're interested in research or primary care, the opportunities are all there. After my interview day I can vouch that the school is extremely proud of its biopsychosocial model and many other facets that make the program unique.

My point is that I think rejections/acceptances have more to do with fit. That would explain why I've been accepted to programs other "top" applicants (in terms of stats) have been rejected to, and I've been rejected to programs other applicants of similar stats have been accepted to.

Secondary submitted sometime in August... glad I am surviving these streams of rejections. Apparently they like something about me... now if only they could f/u with an interview 😉

Um, I would say a 39/3.9/4.0 is in the realm of the best stats on sdn....

Does anyone know if it is uncommon for students to participate in more than one program outside the main curriculum while at Rochester? For instance, two different pathway programs, or a pathway program and international medicine and research program?

Also, does anyone know where can I find more information on Rochester's exchange programs?

Sorry, to clarify I meant the single best

You're also from New York.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but it has a very large role in what I would consider 'fit' regardless of application. Might help explain why others with LizzyM's +/- a few points from yours are getting a boot if they're not in-state. I mean, I would highly doubt even you are going to attend here, not to mention someone from the West coast.

So I'm scheduled to interview this Monday the 29th and a couple of hours ago I got an e-mail that my flight home from Rochester is cancelled! It didn't say specifically in the e-mail but I'm pretty sure it's because of Hurricane Sandy.Ugh! My flight to Rochester today is not cancelled but I don't know if this is a good thing. Do any of you think there is a possibility that the interview will be cancelled as well? It would totally suck to fly all the way to Rochester and then hear on Monday morning that the interview is cancelled and on top of that end up stuck in Rochester not knowing how I will get home. 🙁 :scared:What sucks the most is that since it's the weekend I don't think we would hear before Monday if they actually did want to cancel the interview. 🙁

Someone from the tri-state area is from a VERY different part of the state and about an 8 hour drive away from Rochester. This is actually much further away from many Pennsylvania and Ohio residents to the school.

As for your argument about attending here, if I was not accepted then there would be no chance I would matriculate. However, that is not the case.

So I flew into Rochester early this afternoon. There still hasn't been any word from the university about whether or not tomorrow's interview is cancelled due to Sandy. I don' t know what to think because the news is making it seem serious all over but I would have assumed that if it would be that bad in Rochester that they would make an effort to e-mail us even on the weekend about the issue.

Anyone complete 8/24 not rejected yet? I think they forgot to reject me.....

My mcat score is well below the median/mean of this school. I don't know what is going on. I do love primary care and I have a lot of research, which is why I love this school.

My gpa is right at their median, mcat score is kind of low for this school. I should have been rejected by now. A lot of people complete a lot later than me have been rejected. Knowing my luck, they just forgot to reject me hahahhahhaah. I guess it will show up in my inbox these next couple of days. They probably can't send out too many rejections in 2 days. It must clog up their email service or something.

If you are willing to take our relationship to the next level URoch, I will take that leap of faith with you. If not, please just give me some closure. (nervous chuckle)

Any1 know how they look at multiple mcat scores?

Do they take the most recent? The highest? Both? or Superscore?

^^ Even then I am screwed. Oh well, won't hold my breath for an interview at this school.

Just got a interview here! This is my first invite so im crazy excited.

complete 10/16

Haha identical post to gottabeadoc...interview invite this morning! This is also my first II, so I am crazy crazy excited! Complete 10/16 as well.

Complete 8/22 and crickets over here. Is Rochester receptive to LOIs?

Completed on 7/30 and no word yet either. 3.4-gpa and 31-mcat. Looking at how so many candidates with higher end stats have been rejected -- I don't think they've even gotten to those applicants with lower stats yet.

Yup that is what I am thinking. Oh well.....🙁

Does anyone have the numbers for how many out of state students are accepted that interview? MSAR shows the amount that matriculate, but not the amount of students out of the 424 that are initially accepted. Thanks!

Interview Invite this morning! Complete 9/27, stats: MCAT: 37; GPA: 3.6. I grew up in Rochester however no strong connections with Strong (pun intended 🙂 )

Accepted!

[Interviewed 10/8, acceptance received (by phone) on 10/30.]

Rejected by letter 10/25. IS, 32P 3.3c 3.0sci. Complete like eons ago.
