Will all EDP applicants get an interview scheduled and response (acceptance or rejection) before Aug 31st? Just wondering, I haven't heard anything since I submitted my II 3rd week of July 😕
I'm an EDP applicant as well and I was wondering the exact same thing because I haven't heard back anything since I submitted my II in the second week of July. I asked a doctor who works at the Keck hospital if he could ask some of his contacts, but for some reason it seems like EDP is not well known even among doctors so they don't really know much. If I find anything else out though I'll be sure to update here. I'm thinking that EDP applicants will probably hear back within this week or maybe they'll make a decision without an interview??

"II" means interview invite, not secondary.

By the way, good luck! I'd be way too scared to apply EDP.

Complete 8/11. USC is kind of a long shot for me, but giving it a shot anyway. If I were to get an interview here, it would make my year. lol

Thanks for the info! Guess not that different acceptance rate btwn IS and OOS. The matriculation rate however, is quite different. And the percentages do seem a bit high but I'm guessing as a mid-tier school, a lot people who get into USC won't end up going.

:eyebrow:
Plenty of students here turned down some pretty spiffy schools...I think you're overlooking the impact of attracting the same applicant pool as the UC's. It's not that every school is just so much higher ranked, but you're offering admission to a lot of the same people as med schools that are some of the best bang for your buck...the difference in cost is not insignificant & factors into the decision for many CA residents.

They really do accept a large % of the interviwees, but I just viewed it as being pickier pre- rather than post- interview.

Hey guys. So I guess I wasn't being too cautious with the Keck requirements, and didn't see thier molecular bio req, which I don't think I fulfill...

I've taken biochem, orgo, neuroscience, but nothing like cell biology. I am currently working at an immunology lab that is genetics and cell bio heavy, but still, no formal course.

Do you think I should bother applying?

Do you guys think interviews are sent out on Fridays?

I got mine on a Friday. It seems schools like to 1) send invites around closing of business (5 PM in their resident time zone) and 2) on Fridays (so they don't have to deal with emails and phone calls until the next Monday).

Just take it before you matriculate. I'm pretty sure genetics counts, I would just take that now if you can. Genetics is awesome.

Okay, so i guess it isnt much of a problem? Hopefully I can squeeze it in the summer before it all begins. Thanks!

At rank #34 out of 138 allopathic medical schools (USN&WR), I would consider Keck to be more of an upper-middle tier school than a strict middle tier. Keck routinely produces the highest Step 1 scores in CA (averaging 232-234 over the last 6 years) and posses one of the best clinical training programs / reputations in the nation.

See below for an explanation of the high interview : acceptance ratio.

I completely agree with this interpretation. Keck does not grant a large number of interviews (given its relatively large class size) and accepts a high percentage of those invited to interview.

Based on USN&WR data, 55% of all students accepted to Keck chose to matriculate there. This # is considerably higher than most private institutions and likely reflects a careful selection process. Keck chooses applicants who are most likely to attend (based on geography, genuine interest in the school, ties to the institution, etc.) and thus does not need to interview / accept massive numbers of applicants. Waitlist movement has been quite limited in the past few years based on the aforementioned reasons.

MS-1 checking in. Keck has surpassed my expectations in every way possible; it is truly an honor and joy to be a part of this institution. Good luck to all of you applicants out there!

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have questions; I'll try my best to get back to you during my study breaks. Also, DaisyBuchanan is awesome & incredibly helpful.

For the #s-obsessed applicants out there, here are this year's matriculating class stats:
- 186 students, including 6 MD/PhD (101 M / 85 F)
- 3.7 cGPA
- 34.11 MCAT (mean)

Wow that MCAT mean of 34 is kind of high. Good thing about means is there are always values below it!

of all the graduate schools at USC, the med school seems to be the lowest ranked. I wonder why that is. I looked at the ranking of law schools, business schools, and public school of policy and all the other ones and they're all in top 10/20.

I think it's because USC's research doesn't have the greatest reputation. also, According to the the UCLA alumni writers for 30 Rock, USC is the last bastion for the incompetent rich.

poor guys must have gotten rejected from USC. Since USC is the top school for that and USC rejects go to UCLA in that department.🙂

I just got rejected before my new MCAT scores are released (I took the MCAT for a second time Aug 16 so I dont get my scores until Sept 18) Are they allowed to reject me before the MCAT scores are in? Should I tell them that I retook the MCAT because maybe they didn't realize it?

Rejected today after submitting my secondary on 8/19. Boo.

Sorry to hear about the rejections 🙁 boo

Any II's lately? Think it'll come this week? I've been complete since 7/13 so getting nervous now that II's are rolling out. Though my stats are modest so I'm assuming I may have to wait...

I don't think you would have anything to lose by telling them.

A 39 MCAT is modest? :scared:

Honestly, this sucks. But I can't help the fact that I laughed out loud when reading this. When deciding to retake my MCAT, I was wondering if schools would make a decision about my app before my 2nd score came out. Now I know, and lucky I didn't retake.

If you haven't already, it might be a good idea to not apply to a school until your 2nd mcat comes out. Take another look at your AMCAS app and make sure you have a retake date set. It would suck if you tried to be sneaky about it and not list the retake on your AMCAS.

Why would you think of retaking a 33?!

And is that Harvey Specter in your avatar?!!!

How many batches of interviews have come out so far?

I feel like USC has a fast turnaround for rejections, so I guess it's a good time if you haven't heard anything back yet. Most likely means we are still in the running, but with my mediocre numbers, I'd be ecstatic to get an interview invite here.

that or they're waiting to see what other applicants they get and possibly reject us in the spring.....i'm hoping that's not the case. this is my #1 choice. :xf:

What were your other stats (e.g., GPAs)? Did you fail any classes?

I imagine that if there wasn't a mistake they rejected you based on some other aspect of your application: if not stats, something in your primary or secondary (e.g., misspelling, inconsistency)? Either way, I'm sorry. Hopefully it was just an honest mistake...

Does USC emphasize ECs? Stats? Secondary responses? I think they have passed over me for the interview... Sad...

Why do you feel this way? Have there been any interview invites since that first flurry? I'd guess most of those were EDP anyway.

Plus, EDP applicants aren't notified of acceptance until late August (now). I would guess that once September hits USC will start pursuing the normal applicant pool, including the EDP'ers who didn't get in.

Seems as if a lot of people have gotten interviews there from these threads. A lot of them submitted their secondaries after me (late July). Maybe hanging out on SDN a little too much...

This is the e-mail they sent me when I said that I retook the MCAT on August 16:
Please be assured that your entire application was reviewed and given careful consideration for admissions. Once an application is submitted and complete, we do not place applications on hold for additional scores. All decisions are final. Again, we thank you for applying to the school.

But do you know if other schools have this same rule? Some schools told me that they wont even give out secondaries until they get my other score, so I just assumed all of the schools would at least wait to see it.. but now I'm really scared because I've already submitted so many secondaries and my MCAT won't be released until sept 18. Isn't it kind of late if I wait until after Sept 18 (since lots of schools accept people on a rolling basis?)

Totally get that, whales. I compulsively check this crap way too often. But I would say, if you haven't been rejected yet, that's something to be happy about -- I know, easier said than done -- because USC is not shy about sending out rejections.

All that BS being said, I've now convinced myself that USC will start sending out a lot more II's in September so I'm sure I'll be glued to this page Tuesday morning, if not before. I hate this site, hahahah.

If I read last year's thread correctly, USC sends invites to a few early on but do send out more later on apparently so keep that hope

Jeeze, that blows infinitely! I've never heard of a school rejecting before you get your scores like that. I think this is unique to this school. I'm glad you posted. I just received the secondary yesterday and almost submitted today; but my scores won't post until next Wednesday.

Wow, I am so, so sorry, mate. Rest assured that 99.9% of your other schools won't do this. I only got secondaries from the schools that don't screen. The rest are waiting on my scores before sending. Good luck on the rest of your apps.

does being at USC for undergrad/masters help? just wondering
Probably, if you got strong letters from people the admissions staff know. Pretty sure that helped me.

Everyone that is waiting to hear from USC, relax! Interviews are tentatively scheduled to go to early March, there's plenty of time to get the good news 🙂

Remember, I'm always willing to answer PMs or questions on this thread if you want to know about the school, med school life, general app questions, whatever.

From what I've seen, the adcom does not place particular importance on any one particular factor / stat / attribute. Rather, they are trying to select "well-rounded" applicants - just like most other medical schools. The new assistant dean of admissions (Dr. Arias) does seem to have a penchant for people with interesting life experiences. Numerous members of our class have been out of undergrad for 1-3 years and a high percentage of students have already obtained graduate degrees. Also, Keck traditionally has a slight preference for MCAT over GPA.

Keck is a mystery to me. I haven't taken mo bi and I have very mediocre stats, so I'm not sure why I haven't received a rejection yet. So maybe it is some unusual ECs? Time will tell.

Seriously?! Didn't know schools do that. Reject people before MCAT retake scores come out. I submitted my secondary late July, and I retook the MCAT on 8/17. No rejections here yet, so I guess I am still in the running...thank god.

The undergraduate institution representation was announced at the white coat ceremony.

Here are the *approximate* numbers (if my memory serves me correctly).

# of students - undergrad. institution

42 - USC (including several from the BS / MD joint program)
26 - UCLA
20 - UC Berkeley
8 - UC San Diego
4 - Duke
4 - Harvard
3 - Dartmouth
3 - Georgetown
3 - Stanford
2 - Brown
2 - Cornell
2 - UC Davis
2 - UC Irvine

...and the list goes down from there.

In total, I believe 24 states and over 60 undergraduate institutions were represented. Approximately 70% of the class is in-state.

Really? I retook the MCAT too and I am waiting for my scores to be sent in late September. I already sent in my secondaries last week for USC

Just looked up MCAT for USC and saw this:

MCAT
To be considered for admission, applicants to the 2013 entering medical school class must have taken the MCAT no earlier than August 2010 and no later than August 2012. Scores from earlier administrations of the examination will not be accepted for consideration. Early Decision applicants must have taken the MCAT by July 6, 2012.

So do they take the MCAT scores you took in August or do the scores have to be available by August?

I've had that since July 11...

I wish we could see statistics from the school on how many total have actually been rejected, how many have been offered interviews..... just so all of us with the "silent treatment" can have a sliver of idea on what our chances are. Lol, but patience is a virtue.
