It messes with your sleep cycle but it is very manageable and certainly not more than you can handle. It's a system that clearly works as seen by test average and later board scores.

And regardless of how "hard" you think block week is, anyone can suck it up and do something for a week. The best part in the fall semester is that you get anatomy out of the way on Monday.

Nothing messed with my sleep cycle the first two years! Lol not as much as surgery has anyway...

The thing is, we get all our exams over with in a week, and then you have a completely free weekend and a relaxed couple weeks after that before buckling down again. It's not that bad at all. I have friends at other schools who had 1 or 2 tests a week seemingly all the time. They rarely, if ever got a truly free weekend. So you just have to choose which style you think would work best for you.

Do I feel like I fit in at this school? Can I see myself living in Houston for at least 4 years? Etc. The hardest part of block week is studying for that last test thursday night/friday morning. Everyone is mentally checked out by then.

My advice to others would be get all your studying done before that last night, because all motivation is gone.

Huge plus, I had an undergrad semester where it seemed like I had 1-2 tests a week and it was miserable. You never stop studying or ever come off that exam crunch feeling.

This was a huge selling point.
 
^^^ i know man, i looked at md apps and people with similar stats as mine were getting interviews at uth and utsw around this time (early october) so i constantly checking my inbox as well hahahaha good luck dude

Same here! I interviewed at Tech back in August but haven't heard a thing from anyone else. I couldn't be so awful that Tech would slum it to give me a first-round interview and not ever hear from another school, right?
 
^^^^dude i def feel ur pain, i had a first round interview at utmb and another texas school than in sept, i heard from el paso and since then everything has been quite......wtf? I really want an interview from this school. My app couldnt be so bad that 2 schools interview in the first round, one in the middle round, so idk why i having having a tough time getting interviews fml.

I can't imagine you guys' reaction when you receive your acceptance email. I just got an II from Houston and I am already beyond excited!!!

Man.. A friend that's been interviewing with me and has been getting II's on the same days as me just got one from UTH... No love for me. 🙁 I guess they decided to pass me up-- 🙁
 
Submitted 08/13 and my GPA and MCAT are both well above the averages, decent EC's, and still no II. I have interviews everywhere else in TX I applied. I'm starting to think this is a silent rejection 🙁

Definitely don't give up hope, my man! I was confirmed quite early in the cycle, and I had been feeling the same way for the past months after seeing so many people getting II while confirmed after me.

Gosh, I feel awful.

I have my UTMB interview the same day as my UTH interview. I confirmed the UTMB interview over a week ago. I even have student housing arrangements and everything at UTMB...

UT-Houston sounded like they were very reluctant to offer an alternate interview date. I even heard a student at UTH say she thinks that if you ask for another date, you pretty much forfeit your interview...

I sent them a heartfelt email explaining the situation. Anybody have a similar situation with UTH? What did you do and how did it resolve? This school is one of my top choices and it would break my heart if I was unable to interview here...

From reading past posts, it seems like others have had little trouble trying to reschedule their date. I think their email just sounds intimidating, but I say give it a try.
 
Yes!

Rescheduled for Nov. 9, a week before my original date. What a blessing, I think I'm in a better position now than before.

Will anybody be joining me on that date? To those who have interviewed before me, how did you perceive your interviews? Were they relaxed and conversational or did they grill ya?

This is my number 1 choice in Texas so far. I can't wait...
 
Does anyone know the remaining interview dates for UT-Houston? Ahh, still crossing my fingers for one.
 
I have lost hope for this school. Hopefully Nov 15 brings me an acceptance so that I can relax a little.

Is uth releasing soon for oos kids or will they wait until nov 15 like utsw?
 
I'm pretty sure there are a couple of interviews in january this year...so don't give up yet!
 
Someone posted earlier in this thread that they had called the admissions office and were told that they were interviewing until Jan. 4 this year, so hope is definitely not lost, stay positive guys!

I'm sure there are a lot of invites left to go out...for ALL Texas medical schools.
 
When do we get ranked? Is it the monday after the interview?

MD2017: Don't stress too much man, Houston was my most relaxed interview. There really is a feeling that they are trying to sell you on their school rather than trying to make you squirm.
 
Is UTH receptive to LOI's? Still hoping for an interview, and it's so late in the interview season already-- 🙁

It's not that late, but I would not send one. Their initial email at the end of the summer seemed pretty adamant that they don't accept update letters pre-interview.
 
I interviewed on 10/19 but still don't see the school in my rankings list. I know its nowhere near the match date yet but I still find this concerning :/

Anyone else who interviewed this date, can you tell me if it shows for you?
 
^^ i interviewed 10/5 and mine hasn't updated either... so i think we are fine!
