Pre-matched this morning! 3.8/29 non-traditional student with years of professional healthcare experience. Hey classmates!! 😀

Is it too late to expect an interview at this point?

Is it too late to expect an interview at this point?

Not necessarily...

Per the UTH Admission twitter this morning around 10 AM:

"@UTHAdmissions: Please note we are still inviting for interviews. Our last Interview Day is January 4th, 2013. We will e-mail you if invited. Good luck!"

Accepted! IS 4.0 35
Interviewed late September

Anyone know the remaining interview dates open? And does UTH respond benignly to in-the-area emails?

Accepted 8:00am this morning plus scholarship offer!!! interviewing at SW december, but I am pretty sure I will go here!!!! amazing, never been so happy in my life. this is my second year applying and I prematched to ALL the schools I interviewed at this morning... guess it was worth the wait! 😀😀😀😀🙂😀😍😀

Congrats to all of those who were accepted this morning! And don't lose hope if you didn't receive an offer this morning. A few more batches of offers might happen like last year, and a large majority of my friends here, including me, got in from the match in February (or later off of the waitlist). Let us know if you have any questions!

Accepted on Nov. 15th. 3.5/35. I loved this school and will likely be matriculating here!

I interviewed here yesterday and loved the school. Does anyone know if I'm eligible for prematch?!

Sent from my SGH-T989 using SDN Mobile

Still waiting for an interview, but this is what the rolling feed on their web page says:

UTHAdmissions Congrats to the early acceptances! We don't send many & prefer to get most of our class from the match so everyone else prepare for Feb. 1!

This is what Im waiting for. I absolutely loved this school.

I have to say I'm extremely excited to have prematched here. I'm still hoping to get into UTSW soon or through the match, but I definitely can see myself attending here. Great school, great facilities, great students/faculty, and of course... the TMC.

Good luck to you!

I would love the chance to check it out and see what all the excitement is about. 😉 I am non-trad and have been settled in Houston quite a while; I'd love the opportunity to stick around if I so choose!

Did your acceptance email specifically say that you were offered a scholarship?

The pre-match email says we should notify them by December 6th. I'm still debating between Houston and Southwestern, so does anyone know how strict they are on this notification rule? I want to go back to UTSW to take a closer look, but I don't know if I can before the 6th. What happens if we don't respond by then?

I have read that if you don't respond within a reasonable time frame you would forfeit the offer. Thus (and based on info I gathered talking to other applicants), you should accept ALL offers for now for at least 2 reasons: 1) You would not forfeit the offers. You are entitled to them, as you certainly have worked hard to have the luxury of the choice. You shouldn't feel rushed as this is a critical decision for you. 2) It will give you time to find out about any scholarships, as they may be given a bit later.

You can hold multiple acceptances for a while, not sure what the dates are. As soon as the match starts, if you haven't resolved them, TMDSAS will automatically match you to your higher ranked school. So make sure that the rank reflects your preferences before Jan 21st 2013 after which you cannot modify them.

I am all for withdrawing as soon as possible so that other applicants can have a shot, and I myself will do so, as soon as I get official letters. So as soon as your 100% sure of your decision, it is good practice (and out of respect fo all applicants) to act promptly, freeing acceptances that you won't use. However, make sure the decision is right for you, so take the time you need to make the correct choice.

Best of luck.

I haven't received an interview invite from UTH either, and i really want to check out the school! Does anyone know if the admissions committee is receptive to letters of interest? I'm hesitant to send one because their initial email to all applicants said they don't want any updates on a person pre-interview, but I'm getting ancy because interview season is almost over.

I also pre-matched into two schools already and dont want to look like an ass.

If you have already pre-matched, I would look at it this way, what do you have to lose? I talked to UT-H a few times before and Ms. Magel specifically said receiving one e-mail or letter is fine (she is quite annoyed with multiple e-mails or letters). Others may want to send theirs after their interview to stress their intent on wanting to come to this school specifically.

I would agree with this. You don't have much to lose. Worst case scenario they toss your letter into the trash and noone sees it. I suppose it's also possible that it makes it into someone's hands they think you couldn't follow instructions and don't send an invite, but at this point in the interview cycle (and considering you're already accepted elsewhere) I don't think you've got much to lose.

Yall know when UTH stops sending out invitations?

Based off the assumption that they will be interviewing into the first week of January, I'd say they'll be sending out their last batch of invites by the second full week of December. But they might call up a few people sporadically afterwards to fill up last minute open spots.

I called yesterday and she said that they will be offering interviews through the end of December, but that most will be out by mid december. Those spots coming out at the end of December will probably go to in-the-area people who are filling spots of interviewees who bailed at the last minute.

Awesome, thanks! So I should accept all of the offers via email, and then rank my schools on TMDSAS? And I will have the ability to change this ranking until January? How do people know these things >.< Also, you're positive accepting multiple offers is legal, right? I don't want the schools to say they are retracting their offers because I didn't follow the rules or something... Thanks again!!

Yes, yes, and yes. 😉 If you have multiple prematch offers, all but the highest ranked will essentially drop when you submit your final rankings. Your match will either be that highest prematch school or, if you ranked a non-prematched school higher, the highest ranked school that also matched you when they submitted rankings. (I'm not sure that sounded clear at all....)

People know these things from reading up here or having friends in med school. That's how I know anyway.

For my part, I have accepted all offers thus far. But I will be dropping them as soon as I have official letters in hand and that I have secured a position in the school I want.
While it is perfectly acceptable to cumulate several positions until match, I still stress that it would be respectful to withdraw as soon as you possibly can. If you need more time, then so be it. But if it is just for convenience, or to enjoy having multiple seats, I think it would be a bit selfish...

In any event, enjoy your success, and go accept these offers!

Just wanted to add one thing: if scholarships are an important part of your final acceptance consideration, some schools may give out early aid prior to match date. Just something to think about before giving up an acceptance if a considerable scholarship may change your mind.

Anyone got anything in the mail yet that was accepted?

Same here, only got UTMB and UTHSCSA in the mail, eagerly awaiting UT-H.
I want to add that as soon as I received the acceptance and scholarship offer from UT-H, I e-mailed the two other schools that I am withdrawing. It is only fair to my other fellows to withdraw as soon as I am sure that the other schools are out of my consideration now. I do like the point someone else was making about a scholarship maybe changing someones mind. If that would be the case, then by all means keep your acceptance. Just play out each scenario in your head and start thinking realistically.

🙂🙂🙂

Good point.... Thanks, everyone, for the well-informed advice 🙂

31M, 3.7 but no word from UT-H and most of TX schools. Suspecting something wrong with my App.

I had 0 interviews last year, and was told by admissions later that they weeded me out before anyone even read my app because I had only applied to 3 schools in my area (my son goes to school here and my husband works here so I thought it would be a nobrainer). They told me that a thousand people have the same stats and issues and it looks arrogant to think I am better than the others and can choose my own school before I even get an interview invite or acceptance offer. I took the advice and applied to EVERY school in Texas plus out of state and this year worked out great.... There are many factors that we are unaware of so it helps to talk to admissions many times before to clear up ridiculous things that you would not even think about

Thank you for sharing. I will sit down with school admission to review my apps if did not get accepted. I was on bed for 2 days b/c of Flu and no pre-match on 11/15.
