congrats 👍 i'm signed up for the 8th, which means it hasn't filled up yet. does anyone know, on average, how many people are interviewed per date?

I'm inclined to say that there are around 50 or 60 interviewees. Either that, or my counting skills aren't all that great.

You should have scanned it and keep a copy or even email it. Let's not be neurotic here. I am sure you did what you were supposed to. Just email admission with your possible confusion and stress that you have accepted their offer. At least you will have that on record.

Yeah, I didn't have a scanner handy, so I ended up just sending it in. I should have taken a picture, at least. I think I checked the right boxes, but I just get worried whenever I do stuff by mail.

First world problems.... Lol... Congrats on the acceptance!.. I'm losing my mind waiting on one! Unfortunately, I'm OOS and just interviewed the 16th! Anyone else from that interview date here back yet???

haha sorry about my first world problems. Best of luck to you though!

So I have been really considering UTSW and the schools at the Houston Med Center since prematch and I still cannot decide which I would prefer. I am going to go back to visit both in December but I am wondering. For those of you who have almost surely decided to attend UTSW this coming Fall, what was it that made you decide this other than factors such as prestige and proximity to family? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Where exactly does your status change when you send in the acceptance letter? or does it even change at all?

The colleges system, the activeness of the student body (especially in intramural sports), and Houston traffic.

You should receive an email stating that your acceptance form has been received.

I got one of these nice emails this morning! Good to know the US postal system didn't fail me this time! 😀

when did you mail it in and are you IS or OOS, if you doint mind me asking?

I got an interview invite for January. I was really surprised and excited. I hope I'm not too late to join the party!

Hey Microsteph we might be interviewing on the same date. I also received an interview invite for January, mine is on January 12th.

Does anyone have the IS Interviewed:Accepted numbers from last year?

My status changed if you go to the MyInterview page and click applicant status it will say "Accepted and Deposited" (even though there is no deposit to be made)

Can any current students speak to what the letter grading system is like? I have heard that P/F is preferable in med school.

P/F is preferable in med school but you really have to be careful with that. There are lots of schools that say they are pass fail but then it's all just talk.

For example:
- I know of one med school that one of my friends go to that's P/F but all P grades are divided into quartiles that's recorded with the registrar and reported in the Dean's letter for residency. That's basically A/B/C/D/F in all but name
- Some schools where I interviewed will do Honors(High Pass)/P/F with the top 10% getting the H grade. That's also basically a modified grading system.
- Some school will keep internal rankings even if they say it's P/F

There are other ways. The bottom line is that this isn't as clear cut as whether a school if P/F or not. I personally know of only one school in the dozens that I've interviewed at where they truly mean P/F (which also means they have no AOA). And as a side note, it is a very highly ranked med school so whether or not you are AOA really isn't do or die either.

A good thing to do is to come straight out and ask about this or ask whether the school has AOA and what criteria they use, that should give a good idea on how students are evaluated.

tl;dr: be real careful asking about P/F and look for overall fit vs. whether or not a med school is P/F.

not a current med student. I just know that the first semester at utsw is p/f (not sure about internal rankings or quartiles as mentioned in above post). Also, AOA has a chapter at the school.

Just worry about yourself, and try not to pay attention to how other people are doing. The professors here have made it very clear that if everyone made the "A" cutoff, everyone would make an A.

An unranked P/F system is preferable (and there have been talks about extending the P/F period to the first year or even through the entire pre-clinical period), but as SBR mentioned above, many schools use a pseudo-P/F system where they still internally track your overall rank for the purpose of AOA and your director's letter (which seems to defeat the purpose of P/F, but that's just my thought on the matter).

Just to be clear, the first semester at UTSW is UNRANKED P/F. The deans have made it very clear that they don't keep track of your performance for P/F classes beyond P and F.

Thanks for the clarification!

I've heard that they are planning on extending P/F to both semesters of MS1 for our incoming year. Anyone one how likely/true this is? Also, I've heard that while the first semester is P/F unranked, there is a big (physiology ?) exam at the end of the first semester that IS in fact graded or ranked. Is this true? Thanks!

Yes, the Block 1 physiology exam before winter break is graded.

P/F at UTSW is on a per class basis. All classes that start and end in the first semester are P/F. Physiology starts in Nov and ends in February so is a graded class.

Absolutely loved this school. The new Parkland hospital seems like it will be amazing.

Amen to that. New facilities that respond to name badges? Count me in.

Thanks and good luck :luck:

My interview experience was really good. The Friday rounds and dinner was really cool and a great way too learn a lot of information about the school and meet current students. The interview on Saturday was also great. The interviewers were really nice and seemed to really care. All in all a great day. I'm sure you will love it too.

And there were like 50-60 interviewees. Not sure if thats average for this school or not.

I just interviewed here on November 17th. Anybody hear of anyone who has received a prematch after the initial nov 15th prematch day?? This is definitely my top choice school and the waiting game is killing me haha thank you!

@FutureDoc: the administration has said that they will be making another 40 or so prematch offers before Christmas after the initial Nov 15th batch.

I'm in the same boat, and I'm out of state. I just sent an email to admissions asking for details on this! UTSW is my dream school right now! Unfortunately, OOS is a very small pool!

I faxed in my admission offer last Thursday (nov 29th). On my fax confirmation I checked to make sure I checked the right boxes (how much would that suck?), and that I faxed it to the right number. However, I have yet to have a status change on the my gateway website (still says "offered admission") nor have I received a confirmation email. It seems like I should have received some kind of update by now, according to what others have posted on here. Should I call them or just sit back and be patient?

I sent mine in around the same time, I think they just haven't gotten to it yet.

I did mine last tuesday and didn't hear a response 🙁

I called yesterday and they said they've received so many that they haven't been able to get back to us yet and that we should hear back soon.

Skimming through, didn't see anyone say they got in after Nov 15th. Is this the case, or did I miss anything?

I'm OOS, interviewed late September so I'm paranoid.

You and I are in the same late interview, OOS boat. I interviewed Nov 16th. But I haven't seen anyone accepted after that date either. Though last year they seemed to send them twice a week (Wednesdays and Saturdays) each week following Nov. 15th all the way until Dec. 16th. I hope something is different this time though. I'm desperately hoping for an acceptance here!

I interviewed in the third or fourth week of September, is that late?

No I don't believe so. I interviewed early/mid October and I think they said we were only like the 5th interview day. Good luck though! :luck:

Anyone get any acceptances post-Nov. 15th yet?? Please post if so!

Acceptance email at 10:07 pm!!!!! 😍😱:highfive::highfive::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited::clap::claps:

Interviewed 11/17, OOS, 4.0/37

Nice! 😀

And just to let people know I received the email letting me know they have my paperwork. So if they haven't responded back to you yet it maybe lost in the mail.

Must be an awesome feeling!! 😀 Congrats 👍

Thanks! Looking back, I probably hit too many emoticons... Got caught up in the moment... Sorry about that!

Anyway, best of luck to everyone still waiting! I just thought of something today that might help... If you're on this website, you're already more proactive than most people, so I'd say your chances of acceptance are a lot higher than average... That, coupled with the fact that you've been invited for an interview... Prospects look good!👍

anyone instate who interviewed 11/17 get in tonight??

The waiting is the worst. I interviewed last saturday so i can imagine how it feels to be waiting since 11/17.

good luck, this is def one of my favorite schools for sure.

Opinion on sending letter of intents here? Planning on sending it either right after they're done with prematches or mid-January before match.

Been waiting since 9/28 here... loved this school, still love this city, and I thought my interviews were the best out of any school I visited.

I am planning to send one either right after the match or after mid December. I think after the match is probably a good time to send one because that when they are looking over our app again for wait list consideration; and the letter "might" get your app looked at right at that moment for some brownie point. Looking back at last year thread, they said that letter if intent doesn't do anything especially for utsw since it is many people's top choice. But it can't hurt right?

I actually called admissions today (about 6 hours before my acceptance email) and asked about letters of interest/intent/update letters and I was told they didn't really look at them... but I don't think it could hurt!
