If the adcom people don't know who you are by Saturday afternoon, then you haven't done your job. As for women's clothing, dress to impress. I will say it again. Dress to impress.

I think there's also something to say about knowing what is appropriate. While it's definitely better to overdress rather than underdress, part of the interview is judging how well you interact with people on a social level, including understanding the social norm, and recognizing practicality.

For ex.if its going to be a bazillion degrees outside, and you will be spending a decent amount of time outside... a full suit and long sleeves is probably a terrible idea.

I had a handful of Texas interviews in August when it was miserably hot, and everyone was in full suits. I think anything less would have been inappropriate and would have stood out like a sore thumb (and every so often someone did). I wouldn't want to be that person. I'm going to go ahead and dress in a full suit for both days. I'd rather be overdressed than under. Its not like I'm going to a social party. No one is going to judge you negatively for being in a suit.

Regarding your first statement, is there ample opportunities for the adcoms to get to know the applicants, or is it up to the interviewee to become an extrovert during the info session and spontaneously introduce themselves to everyone? Sorry if it's a weird question, I'm just not the typical walk into the room and introduce myself to everyone kind of guy 🙂

Don't sweat it. Just don't do anything obviously stupid while on campus to draw negative attention to yourself.

I think if you try too hard to get the attention of the adcoms you are going to come off looking a little obnoxious. Just don't do anything draw negative attention to yourself, do your best in your interviews, and let your application speak for itself. For example, I didn't introduce myself to any adcoms and I'm pretty sure they would not have been able to pick me out of a line up except for the picture I submitted with TMDSAS. I got a UTSW acceptance on Nov 15 with a nice scholarship to go with it (current MS3). No one likes a gunner--just relax and use the interview days to learn about the school and see if you think you would enjoy being a student there (you will!). Good luck!

Dress to impress, but don't show up looking like this:

If you don't feel comfortable introducing yourself to everyone, at least make an effort to meet a few people. Remember, these are your potential classmates for the next 4 years. So there is no harm in making some friends.

My friend just got an invite here, and she has a 30 MCAT. She has great ECs, so they definitely take a holistic approach. I believe the date is in mid-November.

Does anyone know how what is the latest date you can interview here and still be able to get a pre-match offer at UTSW?

At the interview, one of the doctors mentioned that a financial package would be given to students in april after filling out fafsa, but some people mentioned that they received scholarships upon acceptance in november and afterward. could anyone clarify this up for me please?

You can't fill out the 2013-2014 FAFA until after January 1st. This is where the government subsidized student loans, work study, and some grants will come from.

The school gives out scholarships on their own schedule.

merit scholarships were often, if not always, awarded in the acceptance letter (the paper letter, not the acceptance email). the fafsa-derived need based scholarships would come in the spring.

oh ok. that makes sense. thanks for clearing that up! I had the impression that they did all of that in April. how soon does the paper letter come after you get an acceptance email?

Anyone know if the November 3rd interview is too late to be considered for a November 15th acceptance?

Within the week usually, depending on where you live.

I think that's still within the timeframe for a Nov. 15th prematch. UTSW does hand out prematches up until sometime in December (the end of December, maybe?).

If I remember they said they would stop around mid december, a bit before xmas. Then wait a month or so, and then resume sending acceptances.

Sent via my crappy phone.

^ Congrats! What was the day they offered you for interview? I'm still hoping for one.... 🙁

Honored to receive an ii from Southwestern today. My stats are well below the schools average. Lizzy score of 63.

I'm aware I may be interviewing for the wait-list, but still very excited.

Congrats! You must have something else extra special then. I have a Lizzy score of 70 (albeit low MCAT score), and I haven't been invited. 🙁

20 days and counting until IS pre-match offers start coming out. The suspense is killing me. This is my dream school. I want to go here so bad! 🙄

UTSW, please send me an interview invite. You are my dream school! 🙁🙁🙁

Don't give up hope yet! If it makes you feel any better, I didn't have an interview invite by this time last year (I think it came in mid-November) - now I'm an MS1. There's still time to interview and be accepted, even if it's after pre-match.

Thank you! Sigh... Crossing my fingers.

^^^Areum,
I met three medical students during my interview in Sept. All three had nov/dec interviews. So a large portion of matriculating (and probably like 40% if not more ) interview past November.
So hang in there man. Still some time to see nice things happening.

Thanks! Ahh, the wait is so discouraging!

I am interested in applying to UT Southwestern. How is their surgery, ER, and psychiatry programs? Anybody hear anything good about them?😎

check this morning, it was the 1st, check just now and its still the 1st! God damnit!

Look at your calendar. Now look at my calendar. Now back at yours. Doesn't read Nov. 15th? If you use Old Spice deoderant your calendar could read Nov. 15...or at least help your perspiration until then.

I know that the surgical residencies at UTSW are very highly regarded (top 5-10 nationwide in many categories). Their Ob/Gyn and IM programs are also among the best.

Can't say I know that much about psych or emergency med, though.

I know there was some discussion above about what to wear to clinicals on Friday, but I'm looking from some definite advice. I'm considering going with the same suit each day to avoid being underdresse... Would it be better to do slacks/shirt&tie friday and then suit up on Saturday?

Also, does anyone know how quickly they usually get back to out of state applicants after interviews when the interviews are after Nov. 15th??

I wore the same suit both days. I only have one nice suit right now. I doubt anyone noticed.

If I get a decent scholarship, I'll be sure to head out to Men's Warehouse and buy a few additional suits so I'll never have this problem again. But for now, I'm on a budget--and there is nothing wrong with that.

Nobody is going to notice if you wear the same suit both days. Nobody is going to notice if you wear the same tie both days. But they will notice if you show up wearing a Led Zeppelin t-shirt and some faded jeans. (Then again, if you're looking to get noticed, dressing like a "rock star" might not be a bad thing)

But my opinion is to dress the best you can afford.

Most guys wear suits. Wear the suit both days.

I was just there and this is definitely true. Wear the same suit both days if need be. No big deal, just dress to impress on both days.

Thanks for the advice! I'm in the same boat as far as only having one suit goes... I do have some other slacks and a nice jacket, so I might consider combining them and seeing how it looks for the first day. Anyway, thanks again for the help!

Wow Im super surprised to hear from this school. Considering their average stats and the ranking of the school I almost never thought I would see an invite from them. I feel so grateful and excited.

My interview date is 12/1/12.

If you look on the UTSW schedule, the week before classes start next August, they organize a camping trip with river rafting for all of the incoming MS1's. Sounds like fun.

Congrats-- Did you happen to hear today?

I ask just because I'm still waiting-- =/ Wondering if I missed another wave! 🙁

Interview Invite this afternoon for 12/8.

Available dates were 11/17, 12/8, 1/12, & 1/19, for all those who who are still waiting.

Also did not expect to hear from this school at all, I am still in shock and it hasn't quite registered just yet. Nonetheless, I am grateful for the opportunity and super pumped to check out UTSW. I wish all who are waiting for invites the best of luck. :xf:

Yea I just got the email like an hour before I posted that. Don't give up, I honestly never thought one would come in and it finally did.

good luck 👍

One more week until I find out I have to wait much longer than one week lol.

Anyone know what ratio of interviewed applicants get accepted?
