I think who ever answers the phone is just horribly misinformed of how the process works and always says that. I called last month and was told the same thing.

Update!! I was able to talk to Mrs. McLane today and to clarify she told me what the receptionist told me was incorrect. The class is not full and they expect more waitlist movement whenever the committee decides to meet again!!

🙂 the dream is alive my friends !

Thanks for letting us know-- 🙂 Did you happen to ask when the committee was planning on meeting again? May 31/June 1 is quickly approaching! :scared:

No idea. She made it sound like the committee meets whenever they want to.

It was a really tough decision, but withdrew my UTSW acceptance yesterday. Hopefully one of you waitlist-ers will get a call in the next few days!

If you don't mind me asking were you in-state or out-of-state?

Just heard for UT Southwestern today and got off the waitlist 😀. I'm probably going to end up going to UTSW so I don't have to worry about paying loans for forever and ever (Chicago so expensive >_>).

I am wondering about housing though. There's the Medical Park on the website that seems nice except I'm not sure about the "unfurnished" bit. I'm not really familiar with what apartments would be the best and how they are in comparison to the Medical Park housing. Does anyone have any recommendations about housing or just information in general?

Congrats!

Sigh, my hopes for this school are dwindling as I keep missing each round of acceptances..... 🙁🙁🙁 I hope there are spots still left.

Congrats on the acceptance!

Medpark generally has a waitlist for people trying to move in, so if it's an option you're looking to consider, I would go ahead and submit an application ASAP (http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/education/student-services/housing/index.html). At this point in time, however, you'll be pretty low on the priority list, so I would definitely scope out some other options in the area.

Thanks for the info! I called today though and they said at this point it's highly unlikely I can get off the waitlist for Medpark for this year 🙁.

If there's anyone who is looking for a female roommate or has other recommendations for housing options, please let me know. In the meantime I guess it's time to make a bunch of phone calls...

Besides the housing predicament though... I think I'm finally moving past the shock of the e-mail... So excited to get in! 😀

There's an active Google doc on the c/o 2017 FB's page for people in need of roommates:

Best of luck with roommate hunting, and we look forward to seeing you here in the fall!

Thanks again for the info! I did see that there was a facebook page yesterday and requested to join but not reply yet. I will definitely take a look as soon as I get access to the page.

Accepted this morning. Almost had a heart attack. There were definitely tears.

Good luck to all of you who are still waiting! I think a lot will happen within the next week.

Congrats! I guess I'll be seeing you on campus then XD.

Accepted this morning as well - really a dream come true. IS, sub-par stats. Will definitely attend! If you really want to attend UT Southwestern and are still waiting, I think it helps to be persistent (but not annoying) and express genuinely why you feel this school is a great fit for you what you can contribute back. 🙂

GL to everyone else waiting!

Did you send an update letter? Think would it be too late to send one now? 😕

They totally tricked me. They told us not to send in anything 🙁

Would you guys mind sharing your stats?

PM'd

Yeah, I sent updates but I was afraid I was annoying. But instead of writing generic updates I tried to be as genuine as possible with my own unique reasons. I think there's a fine line between persistence and annoyance that you have to be careful to not cross. At this point, you have nothing to lose. Best of luck to you all!

My stats were pretty average, nothing special--

And I did send in some letters!

Hang in there, guys! I really feel like a lot of will go on between now and June 1!

I was accepted last week and had never sent in anything since my interview. It may make a small difference but it definitely isn't absolutely necessary so don't get discouraged.

Congrats areum!!! I'm really happy to see that you got accepted. I think the good spirit/will you showed, despite not having an acceptance to UTSW over the past few months was awesome. Well deserved! I am excited you will be a part of my class next year.

Aw thank you so much! Haha, I was definitely a bit of a spaz, but today was prob one of the best days of my life-- 🙂 I'm excited as well and congratulations to you too!

Can any current student tell me more about Pre-OP weekend? I'm assuming its mandatory? I'm planning a trip for the end of the summer and don't want to cut it to close and i need to start planning my move to Dallas.

Also, is Uptown the best place to live? Any recommendations about where to live would be great. I'm not to familiar with Dallas and missed MS0 weekend.

Thanks! 😀

I have a friend who's going to end up missing Pre-Op weekend; I don't think it's exactly mandatory, but I think the Friday before actually going on the trip will consist of orientation-y type things as well as getting our ID's and such.

I flipped through this site, and I found it helpful: http://www.southwesternstudents.com/PRE-OP/

anyone know the answer?

I doubt anyone got an exact answer but I say "probably" one last movement on June 1st. I send an email to Mrs. Mclane last week after the last movement on here; and she didn't say anything about the committee stop meeting or that the class is full (basically she just told me to wait till june 1st) Let's just wait and see.

Plan on attending Pre-OP.

Uptown is generally a nicer place vs. some of the areas closer to UTSW, but it's also much more expensive. Most of the affordable + nicer apartments in the immediate area are already approaching max capacity, so I would definitely plan on getting housing arrangements in order ASAP.

Here's a list of some popular housing options in the area:

Uptown is awesome, but I don't think it would be conducive to being a medical student. A lot of the bars, nice restaurants, etc. are located in uptown but it's noisy and incredibly expensive. The Dallas medical district is located more or less across from the new Parkland hospital and has some nice buildings. However, as the above poster stated, there is extremely limited availability.

There are a lot of options near the medical center that have plenty of availability right now.

I'm a rising 4th year, and I currently live at AMLI on maple which is literally a 2 minute drive to campus/the hospitals. I've been here a year and I truly have no complaints at all, security alarms come standard, security guard overnight + cameras in common areas + garage, key fob access to everything, great resort style pool + super clean and big gym, etc. A little more expensive than some (can get 1 BDR from 1000-1200/month, and 2 BDR from 1400-1700, affordable if have a roommate), but it's a LEED building so super energy efficient; I only pay like $40-50 in electricity. Truly have had no problems here at all. Let me know (PM me) if you're planning on looking here or renting here and I can answer any additional questions you have, and if you put me down as who referred you here, maybe we can work something out in terms of the little referral incentive they give current residents. 🙂 Also, UTSW is a "preferred employer" which counts for students too and gives you no app fees and waved deposits I think.

Also, there is a brand new place right across the street that's slightly less expensive but just opened like 2 months ago. Not quite as nice as AMLI but has a salt water pool which is kind of awesome.

Other places I know current students live and have liked include:

http://www.21fortymedicaldistrict.com/Neighborhood.aspx (medical district)

http://www.colonialprop.com/dallas/colonial-reserve-at-medical-district/ (medical district)

http://www.cityville-apts.com/apartment_communities/cityvilleOakPark-Dallas/ (on lemmon ave)

http://www.mqcedarsprings.com/ (uptown)

http://www.amli.com/apartments/dallas/uptown/dallas/knox-henderson/ (knox henderson, other trendy neighborhood with bars/restaurants, less expensive than uptown, less chaotic)

http://www.amli.com/apartments/dallas/uptown/dallas/quadrangle (uptown)

http://www.5225mapleapts.com/ (medical district)

I would avoid the Design District (tons of really shady crime, like serious stuff going on) and I would avoid living on the East side of 75 near/between Haskell and Fitzhugh (you WILL get your car broken into, no matter what, it will happen), even though the Haskell/Fitzhugh area is actually really cool for going to fun bars and restaurants, living there is just a mistake IMO.

Hope that helps some of you guys!

So I guess that's it for the waitlist? No one from SDN got offered this week?

Got my notice that I was taken off the waitlist as per the Texas waitlist agreement.

What a terribly sad day it is.

Has anyone else gotten this email yet? I emailed someone at the admissions office at Tech to withdraw (because I have an acceptance from an AAMC application school, and I want to still be considered at Southwestern), but I never got a response from her nor did I get anything from Southwestern recently. (I'm OOS if that's important)

From what I understand, you're only removed if you have been accepted at a TMDSAS school (dunno about Baylor). The agreement indirectly increases chances for OOS students and people with no acceptances.

Hey everyone,

Looking for a third roommate for a 3 bed, 3.5 bathroom condo near the intersection of Stutz Drive and Forest Park Road. You can actually even see the UTSW campus from the kitchen window.

The monthly rent would be cheaper than most of the apartments listed on the housing survey. I have a couple pictures, but I'll just post a few here.

If you are interested and want more information and pictures, just PM me and I'll get back to you.

I guess that means my withdrawal from Texas Tech was completed, because if it wasn't, it sounds like I would've been told I'm no longer being considered at UT Southwestern.

Does anybody know anything about what students still on the waitlist can expect at this point? I am an OOS student and am essentially wondering if there is still a chance of getting in off the waitlist e.t.c. In the email Anne McLane sent out in February she said there would be an update in late May but I haven't heard a peep!
