Just found out that my flight back home on Thursday night was cancelled! 😕 It's Jetblue and since they only leave once a day from Burlington, I probably have to stay another night. I don't want to impose on my host possibly by staying another night so I guess I'll ask around during the interview to see if others are in the same situation to possibly share the cost of a hotel.
Been on the phone trying to contact Jetblue but the wait time is over an hour now....

If I do have to stay another day (highly likely), definitely would like to meet up! I don't want to spend the day alone wandering Burlington lol.

I read somewhere that the Contract of Carriage for jetBlue allows you to go standby for another airline if your flight is cancelled/delayed and that jetBlue has to honor the change fees. You can ask them about this, or you could go standby on the Wednesday since there is only one flight out of Burlington a day. The airport isn't too far from the school.

I suggest you stay in the Burlington Hostel. It's cheap (I think I paid $35 a night?), there's a nice common area, free breakfast and coffee, and close to Church Street. Looks shady from the outside, but inside it's nice!

Hey earf! Thanks for your input. I talked to Jetblue last night after being on hold for almost two hours and the supervisor I talked to was very unyielding and said that I could only be rescheduled for a Saturday morning flight. I was fine with that..... well, just woke up this morning to find out that one of my flights has been DELAYED so that I only have ten minutes to get on the connecting flight to Burlington. Right now, I'm considering calling the office and seeing if I can reschedule my interview for two weeks later (have lots of exams next week).
Ah, if the distance wasn't over 20 hours, I would totally drive!

So, I definitely am not going to Vermont... flights are cancelled/delayed/no other available flights. I called Ms. Keefe and was told the only interview dates are in December.
Since I will probably go after my final exam period, I'm looking at an interview in mid-late December rather than Nov 1.

I'm a bit worried... is this going to be detrimental to my application at all since it's a later interview?

JetBlue won't even let me be on hold now lol. They keep ending my call since they have so many customers on the line.

That's such a bummer, I'm sorry! Where are you flying in from? I'm a bit surprised your flight in isn't cancelled. I'm hoping my flight out on Saturday doesn't get canceled either, it is connecting through La Guardia which is still underwater.....I gotta call them before I leave this afternoon ha.

I wish! Right before leaving for the airport, found out that I can't even go to Vermont lol. I'll keep the hostel in mind for the future though! Thanks!

So my status still hasn't changed from the "Your application will be processed, please allow 6-8 weeks." I was complete on 8/24. Should I call them or what?

Good luck. This hurricane is really doing a number of travelling. But UVM is beautiful and the curriculum seems fantastic, so it's worth it to be optimistic!

Call them and ask them about the status of your application and then ask if you could send an update letter and what the best method would be (email, message center, etc). Send them an update letter stating your continued interest in their school and I think that'll be your best next step.

This is a repost from another thread, but I just wanted to let people on this forum know:

I contacted the school to see if I could schedule earlier and I was told that any interviews after Nov 13th (which I the date from which I could go since I have exams next week) would be reviewed in January. This means that it does not make a different whether you interview November 13th or as late as December 20th since it's all reviewed in January apparently.

Since I did miss the Nov 1st interview however, I am still one review session behind now. If I had been able to attend tomorrow, I would have been reviewed by the week of Nov 13th.

~~~~Anyway, I'll stop posting so much now 😳
Ooh and I wonder how cold it will be in late December... ha
Yeah, they told all SEVEN of us yesterday that we would be reviewed in about two weeks. I only made it to the interview because I drove for 5 hours on Monday. I literally just got home right now, and I am very tired. Good thing Vermont was easy on the eyes 🙂
So if we have an interview the week before Nov. 13th then we will be reviewed within a week?
so if we interviewed mid september (after the 13th) is it looking like we won't find out for a while? I'm surprised because at my interview they said we would find out around october 16th...but no word yet...
Cancelled my interview for Nov. 6th and withdrew my app! Hope someone can put my spot to good use! 👍
Good luck to everyone with their interviews on 11/1. The place is amazing.
My interview is 11/08. So that's good to hear that we can find out within 2 weeks!
However, I am concerned about potential knockbacks from the delayed/cancelled flights from this week. Do you think it will spill over to 11/07 my travel date?
You mean you still didn't get a decision when you had your interview in mid sep?
Not even OOS?
redPastel, it still says this:
We hope that you enjoyed your interview at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and that you were able to learn more about our school, curriculum and life in Burlington.
Your file will now be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and you will be notified in the coming weeks regarding the final decision of the committee.
You could call and see if they'll tell you when your file will be reviewed. I interviewed 9/11 and have already heard back, but maybe that was the cut off date for their last meeting. They might not be able to accurately tell you when statuses will be updated (they didn't give me the right time frame), but I would think they should be able to say if the committee already met or if a decision has already been made?
Yeah call and let us know what they say.
I interviewed after 9/13 also.
Small pooled today! Submitted 8/16, sent LOI 10/17, under preliminary review as of 10/26. Yay! Now just have to cross my fingers for the II....
Anyone 11/08 interviewing? I'll be there 11/07-11/09. Down to do some exploring of burlington thurs after the interview!
Interviewing here 12/13. Any info on the structure of the interviews? Any advice from those who have already interviewed? Thanks in advance for the help.
Yup, they didn't get to our applications in the last meeting. They're meeting again "the second week of november" (which i assume/hope is this week), and we should hear at the end of that week, or early in the next week.
II!! OOS, 3.5 cum/3.4 sci/ 32O. II date is for 11/20/12...right before I fly across the country for Thanksgiving, but I'll make it work.
Complete some time in early August
Small-pooled around mid Sept
Sent two LOIs (one just after being small pooled, the most recent one last week)...so I think the LOIs definitely did something! So excited, I love this school.
Would it be wise or annoying if i sent a Loi If my app still hasn't been reviewed? I've also been waiting a while but I would really like to express my interest! I love this school!
Had my interview last week, actually pretty blown away with how much I liked it! Great students, everyone was so incredibly nice and laid back, could really see myself here.
Not to mention that Burlington is a pretty cool city 🙂
I'm seeing crappy weather for flying due to the noreaster and a low pressure system off the atlantic... I'm coming in Wed. I hope there's no delays =/
I'll keep my finger crossed for you! :luck: I had the same worries when I was flying in last week after Sandy came through, and had to switch my flights around but I made it in!
I was told that the next meeting is on Nov 15th
Sometimes I wish I could just go into cryostasis to skip to when schools have made their decisions. This "hurry up and wait" application process is wearing me down.
I definitely feel you there. The worst I think is waiting for interview invites. After an interview, you know that they WILL get back to you at some point with a decision.
Interview invites though....I submitted my last secondary app on like August 10th and haven't heard anything from 5 or 6 schools, despite update letters and such. I don't know if I have been given the silent rejection or if I'm on hold or what!
As Ron Burgundy would say....
"I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION!!!!"
Hahaha, will definitely use this! I haven't even gotten a secondary 🙁
Did anyone who interviewed after 9/13 get acceptance?
No, I interviewed in early October and was told they would meet next in mid November. So hopefully soon we will have a status change
Keep the hope alive cheechoo! How long have you had your primary in? Cause I've just passed the 4 month mark.
4 months after primary but no secondary or... secondary no interview?
Just finished interviewing at UVM. Can positively say this is a hotdamn great school, students happy and well supported by staff, very nice and COLD, great brews, small town, warm admissions staff, great physician faculty members as well as lecturers (saw one). Hope they give me good news, I'd love to go here!
