you could drive to Stowe and go to the Ben and Jerry factory... or is that just me that is interested in this? haha

You definitely want to hit up church street. Bunch of bars and restaurants and just a great scene/vibe overall.

For those accepted... Can you guys share your stat and your state residency?
And no waitlisted for those OOSers?

Holy crap. Had about 2 minutes to check SDN/email on my layover before take off and found out I was accepted !! 😀

OOS, CA resident. Interviewed 9/11

did you find out about your acceptance via email? or status change?

I was literally about to press send on my LOI when I got the acceptance offer lol, but yeah waitlisted first like everybody 👍

also does anyone get rejected post-interview or do they just keep a massive WL?

Yeah, I got rejected immediately. 29Q, 3.6 GPA. Vermont resident. Not sure why, I contacted one of the admin requesting an evaluation. She told me she would call me back, but never did.

Oh, well. There are children starving, so I can't complain 😛

Sent from my Droid using SDN Mobile

For those of you who were accepted...How did you find out? Congrats by the way!

Accepted today via email! Had been on a WL for 3 days I think. Interviewed mid-Sept, CA resident! Soo excited!!

Hahaha my status just changed from the "Thank you for applying...6-8 weeks" status to the "Preliminary review...6-8 weeks" status. I submitted on 8/15. If I get small pooled, I'm guessing it will be in January. Come on UVM...show me some love, in less than 6-8 weeks, pleaaaseeee.

PS. Does anyone know when the UVM ADCOM meets to review files? Weekly? Monthly?

I apologize if this has already been asked, but about how long do people spend in the small pool? And is that time different for oos applicants?

I am OOS, and I was in the pool for 10 days. However, i think it varies from person to person.

Does anyone know the status of 10/30 interview? Are they going to reschedule/cancel it because of Hurricane Sandy? 🙁 I called but no one answered.

Just sent in my primary app to Vermont! Hopefully I get an interview before this year ends!!

I interviewed in early October, and they told us that the adcom had just met and wouldn't meet again until November.

If we want to send a letter of interest, do we send via mail or email? And is it okay to send one before being notified whether i"m on wait list or not? I've interviewed but haven't heard back

My interview's on 11/8. Does any current med student think I should ask about potential reschedule if the storm hits vermont?

How should I broach the subject?

"Dear AC,

In the news, I am reading about the huge hurricane that is about to hit the east coast. Will it affect my interview schedule on 11/8?
"

Is that sounding too selfish? Should I include, I hope you will weather it alright? <-- feels kind of awkward.

My interview is scheduled for 10/30. I don't know how bad the weather will be in Vermont.

Does anyone have any tips for keeping my new suit from getting soaked?

I have never owned a suit until now, and I am worried about what the inclement weather may do to it. I do own a rain-resistant top-coat and an umbrella, but do I need anything else? I feel silly asking this question, but should I buy a "nice" umbrella, or will any old one do? Should I wear boots to the building and then change into my dress shoes when I am inside?

My girlfriend is coming with me to Burlington. I'm considering having her drop me off/pick me up close to the door.

Does anyone else have their interview scheduled for 10/30?

I think that would be awkward and unnecessary. That's 2 weeks away!

From what I've read, interviewing later in the season will hurt my chances. As long as they're still holding interviews that day, I'll be there. I just don't want to be soaked for my interview. Regardless of how bad the weather may be, that would not make a good first impression.

Tuesday is supposed to be the big day for the storm. For safety and sanity, I will be driving up to VT on Monday and leaving there Wednesday.

I went to an interview on a rainy day, and no one paid any attention to umbrellas. I think any old one you've got is fine.

Congrats to all accepted this week! Feel free to PM with questions, or ask them publicly if you like.

I'd guess the storm will be a non-issue by the 8th. A wait and see attitude is probably best.

You could certainly call admissions on Monday and find out if they think the university will be closed on Tuesday or the interview schedule will be at all affected. Otherwise, just have your GF drop you off at the door. Go to one of the entrances marked here with arrows. The one with stairs and the awning looks inviting in the rain but the door will be locked.

Thanks a bunch for the map. I'm a terrible navigator.

I'm really hoping UVM doesn't cancel interviews at the last minute. I already booked a room, and I'll be charged for 2 nights if I cancel Monday :scared:.

My flight has been canceled. Sigh, cant make it to Vermont anymore :/

Oh dang I'm sorry! I'm thinking mine will be the same way though, I interview Thursday and fly out Wednesday night.

Anyone know if they are going to let us reschedule?

Hurricane Sandy Update

10-28-2012 By University Communications
The latest forecast from the National Weather Service station in Burlington is calling for powerful wind gusts between 5:00 p.m. and midnight on Monday, October 29, 2012. Winds are expected to gust over 40 mph after 5:00 p.m. and could gust as high as 60 mph in the late evening hours until midnight. Winds should subside by daybreak on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.

Based on this forecast, UVM’s Emergency Operations Group is urging people to remain indoors as much as possible during this period. The combination of saturated ground conditions and strong winds will make trees particularly vulnerable to coming down. Driving and walking on campus during these hours is discouraged.

As a result of the remnants from Hurricane Sandy the following steps are being taken:

All classes, activities, and events will be cancelled beginning at 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2012. Offices will remain open until 4:30 p.m.
The University will remain officially open.
Employees scheduled to work Monday evening should report to work. Evening employees are encouraged to remain indoors as much as possible.
Campus shuttle buses will run until 8:00 p.m. and will resume as scheduled on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. At this time the CCTA buses are planning to run as scheduled, but you are encouraged to check their website for any updates - http://www.cctaride.org/
The Bailey-Howe Library and the Athletic Complex will be closed at 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 29. The Davis Center will close at 8:00 p.m.
All University Dinning Services will be available until 8:00 p.m. All late-night facilities will be closed on Monday evening.
All classes and events will resume as scheduled on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.

We will continue to monitor the storm closely and make changes in response to new forecast conditions as needed. For updated weather information, please check the following NWS website: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=VTZ005. Additional information is also available on the University’s Emergency Management website which is accessible from the UVM home page.

We encourage students, faculty and staff to take steps to ensure their safety by exercising reasonable precautions.

I received this e-mail today as well:

Greetings:

We wanted to provide you with a weather-related update regarding your scheduled interview day onTuesday, October, 30th at the University of Vermont College of Medicine

Interviews are still scheduled to be held on Tuesday; however, due to weather forecasts calling for severe weather in the eastern United States, we understand that travel in and out of the area may become problemmatic for some applicants. In the event that your travel is delayed or cancelled, please contact Mary Keefe at (802)656-1289 or email [email protected], and we will work with you to reschedule your interview, if necessary.

We are looking forward to meeting you. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Best,

Interviewing a week from today, no student host available so I decided i'd stay at the Hilton an extra day.

Anyone have some tips for things to do on a Friday in Burlington??

Go to Muddy Waters and grab a coffee/hot chocolate there. It's a wonderful coffee shop filled with UVM students. When I went, there was a live jazz band playing while I read a book I had brought. There's no wifi here, so don't bother bringing your laptop.

Umbrella. Wear a rain coat over your suit. The entire interview day is indoors after you check in. You can put your raincoat at the table reserved for admissions so you don't have to wear it or carry it into your interview.

I would suggest arriving earlier than you expect so you can sit and dry more than the other applicants if you're really worried about being soaked for your interview.

Oh that sounds like a good time, thanks for the tip!

Damn earf, way to hold out on your fellow interviewees.

It seems like UVM accepted people who interviewed up to the 13th of September.

Did anyone who interviewed after the 13th get accepted yet?

Just an update: Burlington barely got anything from Sandy. There were a couple showers and a slight breeze. Overall it was sunny for most of Monday and Tuesday. It's very beautiful up in this neck of the woods.

If this school never sends me an interview invite, I'll be very sad... Want another letter of interest? 🙁

Just found out that my flight back home on Thursday night was cancelled! 😕 It's Jetblue and since they only leave once a day from Burlington, I probably have to stay another night. I don't want to impose on my host possibly by staying another night so I guess I'll ask around during the interview to see if others are in the same situation to possibly share the cost of a hotel.
Been on the phone trying to contact Jetblue but the wait time is over an hour now....

If I do have to stay another day (highly likely), definitely would like to meet up! I don't want to spend the day alone wandering Burlington lol.
