Wow. I didn't get any email. Just checked my status and saw the waitlist..... hmmmm

For some of you who had the waitlist (and knew about it) ... did you also send a letter of interest or didnt do anything?
 
First acceptance here as well!!! (OOS, interviewed 11/08)

Just wondering if anyone got a confirmation after notifying UVM that you accepted their offer of admissions. Or do you receive the confirmation after the check has been deposited?
 
i remember you O_O. Did you receive the acceptance today? Or was it from a few days ago?

I received it 11/20...not sure if I was ever waitlisted as I didn't check the status page since I was waiting for email notifications, heh.

A confirmation email is sent after they receive your deposit

Was beginning to write it off! Congratulations to those accepted AND waitlisted. Folks who did not hear good news will surely hear it from another school.
 
Congratulations to all! I'm really excited and nervous to interview there in about a month...seems like I've been waiting forever. I got my interview invite late August so it will have been like 4 MONTHS from the invite to attendance! 😳

Sorry, forgot to mention that I would be in the Burlington area (with a CAR..not going to risk air travel cancellations/delays again lol) around DEC 16!
I would like to meet up/offer rides to fellow interviewees then!

Also just out of curiosity, for those who had to cancel their interviews early November, when did you reschedule? I was only given dates in December for availabilities.

It took UVM 3 months to review my application for some reason (not waitlisted, just in limbo) AND most enrolled students spend time on the waitlist, so do not fret! You are still in the game.

My application still hasn't been reviewed and I'm coming up on the 3 month mark...I just want my status to change to anything else haha. I don't know if I'll be able to relax but its good to know I might still have a shot. Thanks!
 
Does UVM send "complete" emails?

I submitted my secondary sometime in late august/ early september and I have no idea whether I am complete or not. I have had this status since submitting.

"Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed. You should continue to periodically check on the status of your file through the Online Applicant Center. We appreciate your patience!"

I have had the same status since early september as well. I had emailed the office after the 8 week mark to make sure my materials were in and this is the response I got:

Our system should really reflect that it could take more than 10 weeks for an application to be processed. If your application status on the Online Applicant Center says that we have received your secondary application, then you are essentially complete and ready for review. If we determine that we need anything else your status will change to reflect that.

Thanks! Everyone is getting small pooled and I was starting to feel left out... 🙁

I sent them a letter of interest too, and I just got an email back saying that they are adding it to my file.
 
Reading these posts is making me feel a bit better. I submitted a while ago as well, and I was starting to get worried about not receiving a response, small pool, II, or otherwise.
 
Hey, does anyone know if the University Inns and Suites is an okay/safe place to stay? It's the cheapest lodging I could find... and I'm pretty sure I remember someone mentioning something about lodging on this thread, but couldn't find it.
 
Does anyone know if UVM offers scholarships, and if so what the amounts are? I'm trying to decide if I should attend my interview or not. Thanks!
 
Smells like funk? Yikes! I guess I'll keep looking... or it's just one day so if there isn't anything with a comparable price, I'll just stay at the university inns. Thanks for your reply!

If your on a budget some people I interviewed with stayed at the hostel. It was 40 bucks and they said it was fine. I went there and there was no funk.

So I stayed at teh Burlington Hilton, they have free shuttle service to/from airport and the med school, and I payed about 100 a night with the discount. It was a really great place!
 
That's where I'm staying as well- free shuttles for school and airport= no taxis or rental car. Just boarded my flight and can't wait to be in Burlington!!
 
Can anyone comment on this? I would like to give the office sufficient notice if I decide to cancel, but I'm still unsure about cost/scholarships/aid for OOS students

+1. Jay516 gave me a ride back to the Burlington Hostel. It's very nice if you don't mind sharing bunks. Walking distance from school (maybe not in heels) or a few bucks taxi ride. It was $35 for me and I loved the common area they had. Free wifi, printing, board games, and lots of food places nearby. Looks a little shady from the outside at night though.
 
I'm a late applicant here with not too good stats (28 MCAT/3.5GPA/cookie cutter app but with all the components) and after writing an interest letter a month ago, received an II for February.

I'm not a Vermont resident or even a surrounding area resident.. it will be my first time in Vermont and I really do like the school from what I've read. It was my first choice.

The issue is that my future is basically counting on the impression I make during this interview. I would like to know if UVM waitlists almost all interviewees...or if they reject any POST-interview?
If I have a decent interview, what are my chances of getting in?

I'm preparing myself to be a re-applicant and one of the labs I'm applying to wants a full year commitment...
Unfortunately, I have been rejected or put on "hold" from the other schools I've applied to..there's only one state school in my state and I've been rejected from them already. I applied late and not to enough schools. I am REALLY happy about the UVM II, but am just worried since my stats are low and I do think I'm a nice guy, but not the best at interviews. Should I tell the interviewer or adcom that UVM is truly my top choice (since it is!) and let them know that I'll be a reapplicant if I don't get in... or is that too desperate?

Sorry guys if I'm being ridiculous... it's been a rough and demoralizing cycle for me.

1) Congrats on your interview ! Getting an interview means they see something in you that they like and believe in--so you should too. 🙂
2) Half of the people in my interview group were from CA, almost everybody else was from other states. Only one from VT. Don't worry, you won't be alone.
3) In the past, UVM has been known to waitlist almost all OOS first... I haven't seen any post-interview rejections posted on SDN but that doesn't mean much.
4) I'm not sure any one of us can answer that question for you 🙁
5) It doesn't hurt to tell them that UVM is your top choice. They probably will ask something along the lines of "Why UVM?" anyways, so you can just be honest there. No need to tell them you don't have other interviews yet.
6) It's a long cycle and can be pretty humbling, but try not to put so much pressure on yourself and the interview. I've had much better success with my interviews once I let go of the whole "omgomg this can decide my whole future" mentality. I know everyone says this, but try to be yourself in your interview. Don't worry so much about "what does the faculty member want to hear?" I had some questions that threw me off-guard at my UVM interview, and I didn't always have the best answers--but I stuck with my gut and stayed true to myself. I think that comes across as a good thing in an interview. Interviews are to get to know you, and guess what... nobody knows you better than YOU!

Thank you for your kind and thorough response. I've received some really uplifting advice on sdn just in a night so I'm grateful for it all.

I think the hardest thing to overcome is being nervous. I was never good at speaking and am afraid of the impression I'm going to make...
I am going to try go through all the interview feedback questions so I can be more prepared, but hopefully I don't get an interviewer who asks a lot of ethical questions..
I will try to be relaxed and send a LOI after their decision is sent (really hope it's waitlist and not post interview rejection)

Howdy,

Noticed your post and wanted to mention a couple of things. At our interview, the Dean of Medical Education told us that because we're there at the interview, it means they know that we can cut it at UVM. Now it's just about finding out how the school and the interviewees fit together.

Also, I come to medicine from a long career as a manager in technology companies, and I've interviewed a lot of people. And with each and every one, I wanted nothing more than to love them. Given even the smallest reason to, I would! Your interviewer almost certainly wants to like you right from the start. Trust that and be relaxed and open, and I'm sure they will!

Oh, and some practical advice--practice! Have a friend or two or four interview you. Better yet, a friend of a friend who you don't really know. Simulate the situation--put on a suit, sit in an office, have your friends try to poke at things you're uncomfortable about. Make it as close to real as possible. You'll be much more comfortable walking into the interview then, because it will be familiar. It really helps!

Honestly, my interview here was incredible- nobody was trying to freak us out, they just genuinely wanted to chat and get to know us. They made a point to tell us that we were choosing THEM and we were given interviews because they wanted us there. That was my second interview and I was grateful to hear something like that because I was nervous too! Good luck to you, it's such a wonderful place!

I definitely understand how nerve-wrecking an interview can be. For my first interview, I lost my train of thought a few times and said some sentences really awkwardly.. thought it went badly, but around a month later, found out it didn't go as badly as I had thought.

I am also interviewing at UVM.. more I read about, the more it becomes my top choice..and the more nervous I get... To prepare, I scheduled several mock interviews and just attending one last week has been SO helpful. Try to get a mock interview or have a friend's friend read you questions off the frequently asked interview questions on sdn. You can even record yourself to see if you have awkward tendencies that you may not realize you for. For example, I was recorded during my mock interview and I saw in the recording that I tend to touch my hair too often and also look too scared lol. I'm trying to improve that as well as trying to exude more confidence.

Really, just practice and try your best...and SMILE!! 🙂 😀

Oh and regarding lodging, I looked at the hostel suggestion, but I am actually a REALLY light sleeper so I didn't want to take the risk (although it did look very clean and cozy). I used AIRBNB to find a private room that is a 5 minute walk to the campus. I am paying about $46 with all the fees included.

Airbnb might be a good site to check out... you stay in people's homes and they have private rooms for a better price than most of the hotels in the area.

Good advice! My first mock interview was kind of a trainwreck haha but I'm so glad I did them because it really helped me figure out my weaknesses...even though that first one was totally awkward. Thankfully it was with a doc I know pretty well lol
 
I think there is definitely hope. I got an II very recently.

Also, thank you for all the advice!

One last question, did anyone get an aggressive interviewer?? A sdn user pm'ed and told me how an aggressive interviewer tried to "break him" at UVM and it made me nervous. Is it hit or miss or are most interviews generally laid back? Can those that have already interviewed write an input if possible. Thank you!

I think the interviewers are generally laid back. If you do get an aggressive interviewer, there's not much you can do about it to prevent that 🙂 So try to stay calm and don't let the interviewer corner you into saying something you don't mean.

lots of great brewpubs to check out if you're in to that- hiking nearby if it's not too snowy, skiing if it is!
