I see that this question was asked earlier on in this message board. But does anyone have further insight on the scholarship/grant-based aid situation at UVM (specifically for an OOS applicant?). Thanks in advance for any input!

I know it's soon, but I just freed up a spot on 2/14/13. If anyone can make it, give them a call. Good Luck!

UVM typically does not put any information out about scholarships/grants until late April/early May, which is kind of annoying, but c'est la vie. There are two types of aid: need-based and merit-based scholarships. Merit-based scholarships are for all four years and need-based scholarships need to be renewed every year, since they are based on your FAFSA submission. I would guess that about 20-30% of students get them. Each student obviously gets a different amount every year, but last year when I called the Financial Aid Office, the guy told me that the highest they gave would be around $11,000 (for need based).

Private message me if you have any other questions.

how many people who get small pooled get an ii? thanks!

Howdy! Not going to be there, but the day is fairly typical for interviews. A couple presentations, a tour, lunch, then interviews.

I had great interaction with the staff during the day, who were super receptive to questions and very welcoming. Loved the presentation with the dean about the curriculum too, it was very personable!

Thanks for the hotel suggestions! I am going to be in Vermont this week and I'm super excited/nervous about this interview. Any last minute tips/suggestions? Also, it looks like it'll be pretty cold. Probably going to wear two pants 😳

Everything (including the tour) is inside, so you probably don't need two layers of pants. You hang up your coat at the beginning and don't need it again until you leave. Good luck!

It's slightly more expensive, but the Green Mountain Suites is by far my favorite hotel from this entire interview season. Beautiful rooms, a free real/hot breakfast and free dinner with drinks, and the staff is extremely accommodating.

Sent from my Nexus 4

does anyone know if this school is responsive to "in area" emails?

Oh thanks! Good to know. I think two pants would've been pretty uncomfortable lol

I'll be there! I sent in the request form for a host but haven't heard back yet...did you do the same?

oh wow! Congrats! I will send one out then.

i forgot to quote the reply, this response is to unhistoried!

I sent one and received an invite the next day. The interview date matched what I requested in my "in the area" e-mail.
Also, who did you send the email to? Did you use the online applicant center and go through the "contact us" link? Thanks!

No...I'm driving there and staying in a cheap hotel down the road from uvm, any word yet???

They said they unfortunately can't find a host. 🙁 I'm thinking of staying at the Sheraton unless there is a cheaper option??

Check out the Burlington hostel. I stayed there during my interview and would definitely recommend it. I believe it was $40 for the night.

When the committee meets in March, will they be sending out more II?

I've been complete for a while and would love to go here. I wish the committee had met this month.

Best option is to send an email and ask them, they love communication ( you don't have to do it super often). If you show that you want to go there and are really waiting for a reply, you've got a better chance.

I withdrew and canceled my interview. Hopefully it opens a spot up for someone on here that really wants it. This was a great school, and I was really looking forward to an interview, but I just got into to many more affordable schools to justify interviewing for me. It's bittersweet, because had this school allowed the change to in-state after first year, I would have loved to interview here.

If your are an out of state applicant is being waitlisted required before being accepted? thanks

I never saw my status change to waitlisted before it changed to accepted, but some people say all OOS are waitlisted first.

Everyone is waitlisted - some longer than others. Some people are waitlisted for such a short period of time that they didn't even have a chance to see that they were waitlisted. UVM doesn't send email notifications for a change in status to waitlisted.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn on Dorset and it was really worth it! 90 a night with free shuttles to and from the airport and the school (fletcher allen) and free breakfast in the morning. It really made my trip low-stress.

I stayed at the Burlington hostel and it was pretty cheap ($45) but shared rooms. Really nice common room, free wifi, and free breakfast. I walked over to my interview too

so has anyone been accepted after the bunch that posted here in November?

Has anyone e-mailed them recently? I sent an e-mail late last week and have not received an acknowledgment from them. I only ask because I've sent a few before and within a few hours I always got a reply.

Thanks!

I sent application updates recently but didn't get an email back until I called the office...but i think they responded within 4 days or so

It might be that Mary (the main woman in the admissions office to my understanding) is out of the office until the 28th. I tried calling today and that's what the voicemail indicated.

Just curious if anyone knows anything about the number interviewed, accepted, rejected. I see that they interview about 600 people but they interview twice a week from september till spring and interview 15-20 each day. So do many interview invites decline the interview? Does anyone know how many they probably accept verses withdraw following an interview? i don't mean this in a negative way, but is UVM viewed as a "safety school" so following Thanksgiving many decline the interviews because they have an acceptance at a preferred school? thanks.

I'm pretty sure they are still sending out interview invites, since they interview pretty late into the spring
OK that's what I thought, thanks. According to the information on their website and such, their last interview date will be April 18th or something.

$45? I'm from VT. That seems unbelievably cheap.

I stayed in a Best Western and it was pretty cheap too. I don't remember how much exactly, but it was the only hotel I've ever stayed at that offered their shuttle as basically a free taxi to take me and pick me up from wherever I need to go. I got the best vibes from Burlington, which is why it's one of my top choices.

I stayed at the hostel too and paid $38/night. It's kinda far down Main Street near the lake and I had no problems walking to the interview and to a bunch of great restaurants on church street. I really liked Burlington and UVM. Hopefully ill get some good news!

Has anyone sent emails inquiring about his or her own individual application status/interview invite information? Just wondering how responsive they might be to this type of e-mail (or phone call, if you guys think that's preferable/better option?)

This was the response to an e-mail:

"You will be able to see any updates to your status on the Online Applicant Center."

So...that didn't go so great.
