Has anyone who interviewed oct. 11 heard anything regarding a hold status? Good luck to my fellow oct. 11 interviewers by the way!
I was basically put on hold recently... sigh (no II).
I just got this status update:
"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March."
I don't see any way on the site to search for available interview dates and I'm not really sure what to make of this message.
Anyone else get this message? Am I supposed to wait for another email?
Can anyone explain to me what the $100 that they are asking post-acceptance is for? Do I get it back if I don't attend?
Most schools charge money to hold your acceptance spot, and I don't believe it's refundable anywhere.
I'm more or less positive it's refundable if you withdraw your app before May 15th, and if you decide to attend, it goes towards your tuition.

Has anyone gone up to the INOVA tour?
I did. I thought he was really nice and very thorough about reading and asking questions about my entire application. He was also very nice to just talk with about what it takes to be a good physician and the merits of VCU. My interview ended up being long, too. I ended up getting in on the first offer day as an OOS student with a low GPA, so I'm pleased with the results. What were your thoughts?Anyone here interview with a retired doctor at the alumni house? I want to hear your feedback

I just received an II, but the earliest date is Feb 6. I'm very interested in the school, but don't want to spend the money flying out there if I will only be interviewing for a spot on the wait list (I'm from CA). Does anyone know if they interview for wait list spots? Will the class be mostly full by the time I interview? Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
By on hold what status did they have you? If its a further status, it's not necessarily a on hold status.
Can anybody clarify what a priority score is and how to identify mine? Thanks for your help!
Hi everyone! I interviewed at VCU recently and thought I'd share some observations.
I'll admit; I pre-judged VCU a tiny bit because it is not particularly high in the US News rankings. I thought it would be "just another" medical school...but I was totally wrong!
First of all, every student I met seemed genuinely happy, and the tour was perhaps the most thorough and interesting out of nine previous interview tours I've been on (including last year's cycle). VCU is very well rounded; it's a great place to prepare for a career as a specialist because the hospital is outstanding, but in addition, there is a strong emphasis on primary care/community medicine, so VCU will prepare you for whatever you want to do.
Next year will see the introduction of what sounds like a great new curriculum (only 1.5 pre-clinical years vs. the traditional two) that relies heavily on PBL (problem-based learning) in small group sessions. These sessions will take place in the new medical school building, which looks like it will be incredible! Finally, Richmond seems like a great place to live, with a wide variety of affordable, fun neighborhoods within walking distance of the medical school campus.
As for the interview itself; very conversational and laid back, although interviewers are required to ask a few "behavioral" questions such as "tell me about a time you overcame a challenge" or "tell me about a time you made a mistake and what did you learn from the experience."
Bottom line: I was very impressed with VCU. I can definitely see myself going here, although my OOS status might make VCU an expensive choice. If I get in, I'll have to see what I can work out with financial aid. Good luck to the rest of you applying!
Is anybody still incomplete? For some reason it says i am, apparently they don't have my letters. I submitted like 7 days ago. Does it take them a while to update it or, does aamc not send?
Glad you enjoyed your time here! It's a fantastic place. I hope you also asked your host and/or other students what our LEAST favorite parts are. (You should do that at every school.) There are certainly aspects of the school that we dislike, which will be true no matter where you go. I suspect that with the new curriculum, you will have an awesome experience but it could also be rough at times as they work out the kinks. It is definitely an exciting time here, though, and I underestimated it on my interview day!
(Looking back, I interviewed at several elite schools and, honestly, they did a better job of showing off what they have than VCU does. Now that I have actually seen more of the school and the entire academic complex and hospital, I actually seen it as more comparable to some of those high-end schools. Its name is also well-recognized, especially under the traditional "MCV" brand.)
Has anyone who interviewed after 10/15 had a status change?
I thought we get status changes the day before an offer date, so the next one will be in December. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My understanding was that after our file is reviewed (within a couple of weeks after the interview), we get a status update either placing us on hold for the next offer date or rejecting us.
I interviewed 10/8 and still no change
Does anyone know if Monday interviews might be cancelled due to "Frankenstorm"? I've called the admissions office, but they're out of the office all day due to "purging"... Catching an early flight from out West, early tomorrow, so would be nice to know f I'll be stranded sans interview.
I got this status update (interviewed 10/10):
The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16. Only offers of admission will be made on the dates above.
Is this good? Or does this mean I could potentially be wait-listed or rejected in December?

Now I'm nervous. What do they mean by purging-just got a status change to hold post-interview, does it mean a reject?
Don't worry, all it means is Dr. W/C ate a little too much and had to take some time in the bathroom. It shouldn't be too much of an issue. She'll feel better Monday this way. No problem at all.
J/K!
And everyone is put on hold post-interview.
What's purging day?
