Rejected last night. oh well. GL to everyone else 🙂

edit: Is it possible to get feedback from the school as to the reason for their rejection? In the case that I totally fail at this app cycle, I'd like to improve my chances for next cycle.

You mind posting your stats?

wow, they didn't stop what they were doing just to answer your e-mail?!?!

THUMBS DOWN. 👎
Wow, someone else did the same exact thing and was complete by the end of the day, meaning that they actually did stop what they were doing and verify them, but my email was forgotten?

 👎

(and yes, I emailed it to vcu.edu obviously)

I emailed them about my status, and they responded with we're really busy right now, and will be processing LOR's next week. That was more than a week ago. I'm hoping they're just too busy to update the status. All the other schools have gotten my LOR's just fine, so I don't see why VCU would be any different. Just relax, have a beer, and wait it out.

Looking at your stats, holy ****. You should have been accepted last year.

Rejected pre-interview...

out of state applicant, 3.96 / 36S, good research, volunteer, traveling, sports, etc.

Yeah, I actually called about being incomplete a couple weeks ago and was marked complete about an hour after I got off the phone, so it seems like the whole "squeaky whelel gets the grease" thing might work at VCU. Just throwing that out there.

They have a glitch that initially shows rejection many times. Im sure it will change again. Relax. Vcu will be hard to get into this year.

are you saying that the rejections were a glitch?

You can probably get good feedback here on SDN. You should also be able to self-assess. If you got rejected this early, there are almost certainly some very glaring issues with your application. Most likely they had to do with stats. Was your GPA high enough to be somewhat competitive (3.4+)? How about your MCAT (28+)? Unless you had other things that were exceptional, a rejection with scores a solid 4 LizzyM below the mean here (~3.6/30 and likely rising this year) should come as no surprise. In addition, if you lacked clinical experience, ECs, and/or research, a rejection shouldn't be too surprising. If all of those things were in place, I'd look at your PS and secondary essays....

Some are, some aren't. The pre screen ones generally are.

Where are you getting this information? I saw one person had a glitch, but that does not mean that all of the pre-screen rejections are mistakes. Please don't start crazy rumors. We're all paranoid enough already.

I am talking about bloggers early in the thread (like way early) who said they were pre rejected and then one of the nice admissions staff said it was a glitch. Quite recently a couple bloggers like the ones you mentioned said it was a glitch.

Lastly, one blogger said that his complete status was wrong and it was a subcommittee one after calling the admissions staff.

There can be wrong statuses and the vcu isn't prompt to update them always as we have found out about the way they are handling letters.

Its crazy I know. I promise you im being honest. Read throughout the thread and look at the comments.

Crazy rumor - exactly how I would label it

Not sure about the veracity of this rumor; however, I will say that my LORs last cycle were somehow not downloaded from the AAMC. MCV did not catch it until I actually called them after waiting about a month after pretty much every other school had marked me complete. As a result, I did not get interviewed until the end of the fall semester, but I still got in. I don't know why, but their admissions computer system doesn't seem to be the best. I can assure you, however, that the actual systems here with which you will interact are much more effectively run. I must also admit I am a bit jealous of all you M0 hopefuls who will be enjoying a new (awesome looking) curriculum and a beautiful new building! Hope to see you at interviews in a few weeks!

Are you talented in music? I happened to catch your screename. I love music. I play the piano and sing in choral music. The arts are great.

I'm sure half of the people on here at some point played an instrument. I was actually almost a saxophone major. There's no shame in looking for a few like-minded acquaintances.

In case this helps anyone figure out their timeline...

App Completed: 7/20
"Further" Status: 8/1
Interview Invite: 8/15
Interview Date: 9/10

Good luck guys!

wow early interview spots are still open? Thats a good sign guys, it shows they're just scratching the surface of their IIs.

JUST marked complete, submitted 7/23. At least I didn't just get lost in the shuffle. Looks like the admissions process is officially starting to get bogged down.

Edit: I see most people stating a "further" or "may" or whatever status. Where do you see this? Mine just says File Status: COMPLETE

You'll get an email saying your status has changed, then when you log on it'll display your new status right in the center of the page.

Also:

I never thought I'd find myself backing sjagan , but he does have some merit for what he was saying about one of the glitches. If you look towards the end of page 1, you'll see people (myself included) that were rejected pre-secondary the first day the status webpage went online. However, it was a webpage error and they fixed that within the next 5 minutes. Everyone that was rejected was under review again. That was the only glitch I'm aware of, and I'm pretty sure it was fixed though so I don't mean to give anyone false hope 🙁

Just received an interview from here a few minutes ago!

OOS applicant and received the "MAY" interview status a few days ago.

Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear back 🙂

Interview invite today!!!!!! I have gotten so many "status update" emails from VCU by this point saying that I was complete... again and again and again and again that I have become numb to them when I see them in my inbox. The other day though, I got the "may" status and then today my invite came! First one this season, I'm stoked!

OOS, 3.6sgpa, 3.5cgpa, 33Q

Anyone else going 9/18?

Congrats to the new people with invites! You seem to be the first oos invites on this thread!

Congratulations to everyone that got an interview! Take this time to enjoy your days off and most importantly prep for your interview.
If anyone needs housing during their interview let me know. I live about 0.7 miles from Sangar Hall (where you will most likely be interviewing). Please PM with your date and time. I can't guarantee anything but I will check my schedule/availability and do my best to provide housing. You can also contact VCU about student housing they have tons of other med students providing student housing. This interview invite should be an exciting moment for you. Generally speaking early interviews tend to get accepted the most at VCU as long as you show some substance in your character and commitment. If I don't message you right away please forgive me, school is pretty hectic and I'm always trying to catch up 😉

P.S If we do agree upon something, I can drop off and pick up from the airport (Richmond airport only). If you have a car, I have street parking available. Also most importantly I can take you to your interview site.

This may have been answered earlier, but how quickly after the interview does VCU hand out acceptances? If you're more on the waitlist side I would imagine it could take a while, but if they were impressed with the interview would there be a turnaround of a week potentially?

Wow. I was OOS with may status a while back. Hope this means mine is coming!

After looking at the new 1.5 yr curriculum and building, pretty excited for this school. Hope it goes through development! 😀

Yeah, surprising all three time slots (8:30, 9:30 and 2:00) were open for 9/10 (the earliest available date that I could see). I did click on some other dates just to check and only saw one or two time slots available.

I believe they send out acceptances in batches. Don't quote me on the dates, but it's usually around 10/15, 12/15, 2/1, and 3/15. However, the admissions committee reviews interviewees' files on a weekly basis.

Acceptance dates are on 4 specific dates. The first one is in October. No one will be accepted prior to that date unless you're in the guaranteed admissions program or early decision of course. So this is how it works, your application is reviewed by an evaluator and given a base score. Then you interview and your interviewer gives you a score. That base score, interviewer score is taken in front of a committee (20+ people including some 4th year medical students, Faculty PhDs and MDs). You interviewer will stand up and present you to the committee and they will finally vote you 1-5 and based on that if you score a 1 or 2 then you will be accepted as early as October. Your score DOES NOT change and you compete with other pools of interviewees that have scores. The highest scores get accepted the first acceptance batch that is in October, second highest on the second date which is in December and so on. Offers are sent on or about October 16, December 15, February 1, and then the class is completed on or about March 16. Sometimes offers can go out +1 dates from those specific dates due to some issues but most likely never earlier. It should be noted that once the committee gives you a final score NOTHING, absolutely nothing can change that not even the Dean of admissions can change that score. You can send in interest letters but they will be pointless unless of course you're the unlucky one that has to suffer through all 4 acceptance dates and still end up on the waitlist. I hope that clarified everything you asked.

As early as the next quarterly review date. I received my acceptance exactly 2 weeks after my interview. I am not sure how close to the review date they will take for each date (i.e., if your interview is Dec. 14, they probably won't consider you for the Dec. 15 acceptance date).

And to add some clarity on how long this process can last. We actually had a couple of students admitted AFTER orientation started this year -- I believe one on Monday and another on Tuesday morning. I also know of at least one other student who was admitted some 5 days before orientation began.

That's awesome! As for me, I believe so, lol. It was my "first love" back when I really did NOT want to go into medicine. Of course, med school may make me want to return to music... :scared: (jk...)

What kind of piano music do you like? I love to play beethoven and debussy pieces. I like chopin's nocturne in c sharp minor.

For those of you that got interviews, how close to the 8000 character count limit were you guys on the secondary application?

I have been COMPLETE since mid-July, so today I called Admissions and inquired about my application. Apparently my application is currently being reviewed by a subcommittee, but all my status page says is COMPLETE. I had read on this thread that the "subcommittee status" is usually a bad thing, so I asked her if the adcom had reservations about my application. She then told me that all applicants are reviewed by the subcommittee before being granted an interview. This really confused me because I thought that this status meant a low priority score. Am I misinterpreting subcommittee evaluation for "subcommittee status"? Anybody have any thoughts?

This actually happened to me too. I kept getting complete status changes so I called to ask about my app. The lady told me I was being reviewed by a subcommittee, which I interpreted to be exactly what you said (not so good). My status still says complete though, which is confusing. I'm not getting my hopes up though, since they may just be trying to be nice about a poor status. That is a little confusing though...
