What is this "may" status everyone keeps referring to?
What is this "may" status everyone keeps referring to?
Also from last year's post:
"Application Status:
1) "The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date."
2) "The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail."
3) "The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."
4) "The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."
5) "REJECTED"
#1 - you are interviewed
#2/3 - may be interviewed (still not sure how they are different or which is better)
#4 - subcommitee message
#5 - rejection."
I've had the MAY status for a little under 3 weeks. No interview invite yet...and some of you got invites just a week after status change. What's going on? Is this like a silent rejection or did they change their minds??
I have an inkling "further" might actually be better. "May" says they might not be able to interview you. "Further" seems to show more interest. Plus, I feel that response times are faster with "further." Most of the "Mays" I hear about wind up waiting quite a bit.
I got the "further" status on a Sunday night and got the II phone call early Monday morning (i.e. around 12 hours later).
That being said, I don't think y'all should be reading too much into it. Whatever happens, happens. There isn't much you could do about it once you've already sent in your app.
The "may" status is the #2 status in the post below...it essentially means that they like you but might not have enough interview slots for people at your priority score. For what it's worth, people have gotten interviews from both "may" and "further," although I would guess that "may" is a little better at this point in the application cycle.
Do we know if everyone who interviews gets a post-interview hold? Or is it just sent to a certain few?

I had the "further review" status for 2 months, but received an interview invite for January 22 a week ago. OOS - Texas
I've had the further stats for about 2 months as well. Did you send any updates or letters of interest to VCU?
Their FAQ page says:
"Why havent I received correspondence from you yet, when my interview was months ago?
You should have received an e-mail within a few weeks of your interview, advising you to check the status page where you would be placed on hold or notified that we will not pursue your file further. For those on hold, no further correspondence will take place until we are ready to make an offer or place you on the alternate list."
So, in theory, you either get the hold message or a rejection within a couple weeks of your interview...has anyone been rejected post-interview this year?
Does anyone knwo if the reject soon post interview ? Or do they keep you on hold until may?

Not necessarily. I had been complete since August then last week got a status change to the MAY status then an II a week later. Don't lose hope!
Rejected after subcommittee.

Ouch! I would have thought that they'd give you preference since you went to their undergrad, are IS and have fairly decent stats.
For those of us who interviewed last week (I was 11/7), can we expect the standard "on hold" status this coming Monday? Or does it sometimes take longer?
Are any current students here members of SNMA? I met with a representative from the organization after our lunch/tour. Would you suggest joining? I'm Latino with an interest in giving back to underserved populations.
Does anyone have suggests on where to eat dinner the night before? I will be in Richmond in two hours and am staying right next to the school and capital building.
Trying to figure that out myself and if I should attend my interview. Convince me guys! Never been to or near Virginia...
Virginia is the promised land. Not much else can rival its beauty, people, or economy. VCU is a nationally ranked art school, making the city full of artistic flair. The medical college has a strong history and is well-respected. .

According to the admissions office, since December 15th is on a Saturday, they may send out offers on the day before or the following Monday.
Did anyone who interviewed last week hear back with a "hold" status?
Is anyone who interviewed at the end of October still waiting for a post-interview status update? My status is still the same one from before my interview showing my scheduled interview.....I'm thinking this can't mean anything good. Hope I'm wrong.

Just interviewed and at the airport already and ready to go home. A really nice school. It will be even nicer when they finish off the new building. I could see myself going here. Hopefully the interviewer was being serious when he said I was the most enjoyable person he has spoken to. I would love to get an acceptance.
Sent from my iPod using SDN Mobile app. Please excuse the typos.
I interviewed here a little over a month ago. Really loved it and Richmond. I interviewed with a few people (there was a slight mix up), but, I felt like I didn't really click with the the last interviewer and I could have answered some of their questions better- (this interview is the one that counted for the MD program). The others went great. I know they don't seem to like Letters of Interest, but is there any way that I can continue to express how excited I am for this opportunity? I hate that one interviewer may be able to control my fate here.
