so generally, it seems that being put on hold prior to the last decision date was a good thing. Is that still the case for the last round of acceptances for March 16? Or are they putting future waitlisters on hold as well before this next decision date?

I think they put everyone on hold who isn't rejected outright. Then they determine acceptances based on your score at the committee meeting. Once you reach the threshold, you get in. I got put on hold prior to the last meeting, but nothing happened for me at the last meeting, just more waiting...

Ok, thanks. I was under the impression that if your status changed prior to a decision date you were accepted based on previous posts.

But it makes more sense now for people to be put on hold regardless, at least for the last decision date. I just gotta be patient now

i know that everyone here is saying that all hope is lost at this point for an interview invite, but when i call vcu they claim that there are still spots open for interviews... whats going on here??

i got the "may" status change about 2 weeks ago and havent heard anything yet.

I'd listen to that then. Id say most of the stuff on here is just speculation.

This is my first time posting, but figure my experience may be helpful to those who have questions. I received the "very interested in your candidacy" update a couple of weeks ago and today was rejected via status update so perhaps it's true all interview spots are gone? The interested status told me (though no guarantees) to look for an interview invitation so I would believe there aren't interviews available?... But hope is a great thing to have!! 🙂

I did, and quick question on that: Does anyone know if saying yes to the pre-matric. program completely bind you to attending VCU in the fall? I'm about 90% sure I'm going to VCU, but there's still some extenuating financial factors.... ...

I don't think saying yes would be but actually attending would be defined as matriculating. Check the fine print, but if you attend that would be what the AAMC would consider "matriculation." If you said yes and then got into another school like May 16, you could probably get Dr. W/C to let you out if your reasons were good enough....

is vcu still sending out ii ?

From what I hear, no. Although there could always be exceptions.

The wait list has not yet been formed; therefore, there is no wait list to place you on. You are on hold until either an acceptance can be offered, a wait list is forming/formed, OR you are rejected. (Yes, you could still be rejected. You simply passed the initial post-interview screening.)

There may be a delay between offers being approved and actually being sent out -- at least that would be guess, since the reviewers I know are now all done reviewing apps. They were required to make all recommendations by last Friday at the absolute latest as I understand. This is speculative, though. I offer it as someone a bit closer to the process but without any official ties that might bind me.

All I can offer is that if you have not yet gotten an II and want to go to MCV, please prepare to reapply by figuring out what went wrong in your app this yr. The same goes for those still on hold or rejected. If you want to come here, figure out how to improve your application. No one -- not even Dr. W/C -- can tell you IF you'll get an offer at this point and certainly NOT the front desk people in Admissions (at just about any school). They are wonderful people, but they do not sit on the committee. Even a member of the committee cannot say for sure what your chance of acceptance is (hence why your interviewer can seem to really like you and apparently "promise" an acceptance just weeks prior to you receiving your "Dear John" letter from the school at best thank you for your $150 and "interest" (never was quite sure whether they meant "interest" as in the money they had already made off investing my application fee or the interest as in a desire to learn more about the program -- the former actually seems more likely...).

Sorry to hear that. I assume you applied let? This sounds like what would have happened if your reviewer wanted to see you interviewed, asked the Committee to open a new spot for you and then got a "sorry, great candidate but not THAT interested" response from the committee. Just reapply next year a bit earlier!

Yes, I applied late. (Submitted secondary mid november and complete maybe month later?..)And I knew that was a risk... But still holding out hope for a few other options for matriculation this year, though VCU was appealing to me from the beginning so never fun to be a reject!! 😉

I was accepted to VCU and can anyone shed light on the pre-matriculation program before classes start? For instance, do you have to be invited to attend this program? Thanks.

Yes they tend to invite a limited amount of students (close to 30?) since it's a 70k program which is paid for by the School of medicine. If you really want to take advantage of the excellent program you would have to contact the admissions office and ask them if they would consider you.

Few questions...

Is this a recruiting tool? Or is it for students they feel need more anatomy/science background before starting med school?

What's the 70k program or are you saying the school puts $70,000 into it?

Not at all recruiting. I believe you pretty much commit to attend when you do it. From what I hear, it sounds like they invite students who are maybe a bit weaker on their science background. I believe he was saying they put $70k into it. I'm pretty much positive it doesn't cost the students anything.

Not necessarily true. There were members in the program with 4.0 gpas and mcat scores > 32. I don't classify that as weak on the science background unless of course we're talking about sdn standards which are off the chaiiiiiin.

last acceptance date coming up....fingers crossed for everyone

For those of you who are interested, as of today the last interviews of the year will be next week, March 7th. I would assume if you haven't gotten an invite by now that you shouldn't hold your breath. Good luck to everyone!

Dr. W/C said that due to move the decisions may not go out until TUE March 19th.

Of course! Making us wait even longer. I am excited and nervous to hear back from VCU. It is definitely one of my top choices and would go there if accepted.

So I interviewed almost 6 weeks ago and still no status update. I called to make sure everything was okay and they said my interviewer just hasn't had the chance to present me or hasn't gone to the meetings lately....grrrrr. So frustrating, the waiting is killing me.

Will they also form waitlist and reject the rest on the decision date coming up?

Current MCV M1 here. Don't give up now, regardless of what anyone else says. I got into MCV after May 15 and I know at least a couple dozen more in our class that got in after May.
So, if you want to come here, then let them know you really want to come here: email and call the office, your interviewers, or any other connections you have with the school, send in additional letters of recommendation. Don't give up and keep trying!

Excuse me for not trying to comb through the pages but who should we email the letter to? Directly to Dr. Whiting-cook or should we just email admissions? or both?

According to their website, they don't accept LOI or update letters, only grade updates.

Spoke with admissions... they confirmed they are done with interviews for this cycle.

Hey Guys! I posted in some other Virginia school threads as well with the same question. But for this school can u guys help🙂

Im a California resident. Hispanic URM with avg stats. 3.7GPA, 30MCAT.
I was wondering more or less how OOS friendly the school is to accept applicant. Are the OOS acceptances usually neighboring states or people with strong state ties?
Like i mentioned, im from CA, with ZERO state ties. trying to compile my list of schools for the 2013-2014 cycle. Sounds like an awesome university I would love to apply, but also don't want to waste money if I have a very slim chance because of my OOS status.

Thank you for your help and Honesty. Congrats to everyone who got in here!

I would definitely apply! I'm from Colorado (not quite as far, but DEFINITELY not a neighbor!) and also have zero ties to the school. I however loved the community and extra programs that VCU has to offer and explained this in my interview and was able to secure an acceptance. So If you like the school, go for it!!!

I would say apply. I am also OOS and got an acceptance. I am from WA, so just as far from VA as you.

My advice is to buy the MSAR and read the mission statement of each school. Apply to schools that have a high OOS preference, your GPA/MCAT scores match, and you agree with the mission statement. Then incorporate what you like about each school into the secondary.

I would for sure apply. I'm actually from Colorado also and went to school in California,, which didn't seem to hurt me at all. Especially since California schools are so notoriously difficult to get into, definitely give VCU a shot

Definitely put in an application here. I think you'd have a great shot if your ECs are outstanding as well. Good luck!!

From the FAQ on their website, it doesn't seem like they accept LOI.
