What is a second look day?
Second look day is the day that schools allow all the accepted students to visit the school for a second time in case they have been accepted in more than one school so they can gather more information and make a decision.

I don't think they do, but you could probably email Beth Ann and ask. I'm sure you could make your own second look day and ask a current student to show you around or something.

why do you say that? i see one person reporting oos acceptance in january.

There were two today.

i'm a creeper

OOS...just got the "you remain on the wait list email". Class was filled on march 15.crossing my fingers for some movement!!!!

I'm guessing everyone received the email from Dr. Hazard? Still on the waitlist so I guess that's a good thing. Here's hoping May 15th will bring better news. On another note, anyone gonna submit an LOI?

Just received the following email, like many of you, I'm sure:

I am writing to inform you that the Class of 2017 at the West Virginia University School of Medicine was filled on March 15, 2013 in accordance with the requirements of AMCAS. You are on our waitlist which means you impressed us with your academic achievements and with your interview while on campus. While we wish we could extend offers to all the candidates who interviewed at our medical school, we are limited in our class size. We will continue to accept applicants off the waitlist up until August, 2013. We would anticipate more robust movement as it gets closer to May 15, the date applicants holding multiple positions must declare their intended school.

If you wish to be removed from our waitlist at any time, please contact either Beth Ann or myself.

...and cue the elevator music. The waiting continues.

Just got the same waitlist email saying the class has been full since 3/15, and they anticipate the most movement around mid-May. I think I'll be withdrawing from the OOS waitlist soon, even if I get in it would be more expensive for me than other options. Good luck to everybody waiting!

darn. i wonder who they filled the class with. do you think they have already over accepted?

Does everyone who is on the waitlist get that email, or do they boot out some people?

I also got the waitlist email. I hope oos people withdraw their acceptances bc of the high tuition so we can take their spots.

Unfortunately most people are procrastinators and want to sit on their acceptances until the deadline. A big thanks to those who already withdrew.

do they tell us what position we are on the wait list at all? or do they just leave us hanging until we get accepted?

From everything I've heard you are basically hanging in until your accepted or done since school started. I've heard of students finding out they were accepted up until the first day of classes at other schools.

Was anyone that was on the wait-list prior to todays email receive a rejection? While I would think the wait-list would be slimmed down their is no reason to this thought as they are in the same position they where before the deadline in regards to waiting on acceptees to make official decisions

it happened here 2 years ago, final student got the call the day before class started

I got the waitlisted email status too. lame.
...the waiting continues....

I'm getting ready to send a letter of interest. It should be sent to the medadmissions email address, right? If only this school knows how much I love it...

i would send it to beth ann

It would be nice if there's some indication of the ranks. For those at the bottom, LOIs are desperate, wasted effort. I can't help feeling pessimistic as more time drags on. Still, I'll try.

I just want to say thanks to all of you for all your posts. It helps knowing that others share my feelings during these emotional weeks/months.

[email protected] I called Beth Ann before I sent mine and she indicated her email to send it to.

Got it. What's a good title for the email? I don't want to appear desperate as in "WVU is my top choice" and I don't want to appear boring as in " letter of interest." Maybe I should title it "waitlist?" I want it to look professional.

Please excuse my neuroticism.

I believe I used waitlisted applicant (Letter of Intent) or something like that

Thought I would share a bit of information I received from Dr. Hazard. She said to send all corresponding LOI to her or Beth Ann with ATTN: LOI for Waitlist as the title. "No word limit, per se", was what she told me but I'm guessing that means not to be overboard. She says to mainly state any update you would like the committee to know since your interview. Oh and also I asked her about whether to take the mcat again so that they would receive the score by may 15th and she said traditionally thy don't look at newer scores at this point in the game.

Do you guys think it'd be frown upon if I emailed Dr. Hazzard and CC'd Beth Ann? Also, if we don't have any updates, should I still send them an email?

I'm conflicted because I would go to this school in a heartbeat but if I got into my state school, that'd be where I go because it's cheaper. Should I still send a LOI?

I was creeping on your mdapps and just have to say lol to your comment about WVU being in a hilly area. It's seriously ridiculous. Flat ground just does not exist in Morgantown. It makes me feel better about counting my walk to and from work as my exercise for the day. 😛

I would try to think of an update, new work, class taken etc, but even if you can't I would think still stating your continued interest in their program is not a bad idea. Also, I guess I'd advise not making any statements such as "You're my top choice" or something to that effect if its not really your top choice.
However, maybe someone who spoke to Beth Ann recently has different info?

You should display your interest but don't give any guarantees

Does anyone know how active this wait list is? I'm OOS..being wait listed since nov! It's getting really hard to stay hopeful

Same here. I'm OOS but in a neighboring state. Hopefully that helps. Seeing everyone get accepted everywhere else and I'm getting waitlisted left and right sucks.

Yep I hear ya. I just want ONE acceptance 🙁

lol it's interesting that a lot of us are in the same boat. I have quite a few WL but no acceptances. That probably means whomever they are, admissions committees are picking the same people over and over again. Probably, a lot of us will get in when they let go of their positions.

I sure hope that's the case! I know last year I had a friend with like 5 or 6 acceptances and he waited right up to the end to let go of the ones he did not choose. I think I'm becoming manic, checking emails, phone, sdn to see if there's movement etc. Its killing me!

5/15 can't come soon enough. Why can't people with multiple acceptances have pity for the rest of us. They probably have 1 or 2 schools that they know they don't want.

Since so many of us has the same problem, this thread needs more Ditto.

If only they can transform into acceptances....

Just wanted to let you guys know acceptees got an email today about WVU's rural track. I counted 116 recipients in the email so it looks like the class is indeed full. I noticed lots of WVU email addresses and a few from Marshall. There were also a few from other schools OOS, but those could still be IS students. Just thought you guys would like to know.

aw that's depressing.

Nice detective work! I certainly would not have had the patience to count all the way to 116🙂

That is interesting though... wonder if WVU shifted to more IS acceptances this year? Surely not. I mean many of those WVU (or Marshall) email addresses could well be OOS people as well who just attended those schools for undergrad but didn't actually establish state residency in the process.

Typically though only about 50% of WVU's class comes from WVU students. Would you say the list seemed more WVU heavy than that this year?

The weird thing is that I heard WVU was actually going to start going MORE OOS than before... mostly because they've had a few pretty lame classes in the past few years with incredibly high dropout rates (the current MS3 class is down in the 70s somewhere - from 110!).
