Nice detective work! I certainly would not have had the patience to count all the way to 116🙂

That is interesting though... wonder if WVU shifted to more IS acceptances this year? Surely not. I mean many of those WVU (or Marshall) email addresses could well be OOS people as well who just attended those schools for undergrad but didn't actually establish state residency in the process.

Typically though only about 50% of WVU's class comes from WVU students. Would you say the list seemed more WVU heavy than that this year?

The weird thing is that I heard WVU was actually going to start going MORE OOS than before... mostly because they've had a few pretty lame classes in the past few years with incredibly high dropout rates (the current MS3 class is down in the 70s somewhere - from 110!).

I was bored at work 😛 I'd the list was probably about 50% WVU emails. They're easy to spot because it's @mix.wvu.edu. Like you said, some of those WVU email addresses are probably OOSers who just went to WVU for undergrad (like myself).

wow thats a crazy amount of drop outs. i think it would be wise to accept some of us neighboring staters. 😀

Where did you hear this drop out number from? I specifically asked about attrition rates at my interview and was told only one odd case happened in last class. And basically didn't even have a %because ppl always tended to finish some tdking a semester off but returning to finish. This was from Ferrari himself.

The 3rd year I was staying with stated that the attrition rates for IS students are very high. That's why it was possible for them to say they got a 100% pass rate.

i heard the same MS3 attrition number from a faculty member, just a bad year that one. that kind of number lost is the exception rather than the rule.

hey, what happened to that post telling us what to put the title of letters as?

Does Dr. Hannah Hazard usually reply to LOIs?

Just out of curiosity, did anyone apply through the ED program and was OOS?

I did! I have a more detailed write up on my mdapps you may want to look at. Do you have strong ties to WV? Pretty good stats?

I know they rejected some people from EDP this year, but being OOS and getting in via EDP is definitely possible and it was great knowing where I was going back in October.

Edit: And that extra $20,000 doesn't hurt 😛

Can you elaborate about the $20k? I'm assuming that's part of the scholarship assistance for edp applicants who are accepted? Btw, i'm asking for a friend who will be applying this upcoming cycle.

You get a $5,000 scholarship for each year when you're accepted via EDP.

Have any acceptees heard about financial aid? We really haven't received any substantial information. I think they said we would hear sometime in April and just wanted to check that I didn't miss something. Thanks!

If you get on to SOLE (I just did today) and read "The Doctor Is In" notes it says financial aid packages come out in May.

I had heard that we would hear in April but the information on SOLE contradicts that.

Thank you for bringing SOLE to my attention!

I know the MacBook/ThinkPad debate his come up a few times and according to SOLE the c/o 2017 will definitely be getting MacBook Pros! Just thought I'd let you guys know who were hoping for MacBook's as much as me. 😛

I emailed the financial aid department last week asking when we would receive our financial aid info. They responded that they hoped to send something out soon, but that they were still waiting on some info before they could compose the letters. So hopefully we'll get something end of April/beginning of May! Can't wait for the momentary panic attack that will come when I see the loan amount! Haha and this is only the beginning...

Its part of your tuition. Everyone is issued one from what I understand whetheryou want one or not.

Yep, you have to accept it. The website says we take our tests on them so I'm assuming you couldn't just sell it or something.

Judging from last year's thread, there's really no movement until after may 15th.

I sent a letter of interest and Dr. Hazard replied. Hopefully that's a good sign

She congratulated me on having another acceptance and that I am still waitlisted at WVU. She told me how it's a rolling admission and they are still evaluating candidates as people decline their acceptances. I also got a warmest regards.

what she say?

That's good you got a reply. However, providing basic information and concluding with 'warmest regards' are run-of-the-mill email etiquette. Don't start shopping for Morgantown apartments just yet.

Congratulations! Were you IS or OOS? Stats too if you don't mind me asking.

I was put on the wait list towards the end of February and I just got an acceptance letter on Friday, so there's still hope for those that still remain on the wait list!

Congrats to everyone accepted here. I was accepted a few weeks ago. I've read over most of the posts from Page 1 until current posts. I was told we'd be getting Macbook Pro's as standardized computers where we will take exams on. I have to learn how to use it, been an adamant Windows user since elementary school.

A bit concerned about this drop out stuff, can anyone really clarify? It seems that many students drop out at the M1 or M2 phase. Is this due to being unable to handle the actual material, way it's taught, etc? The STEP scores are a few points above the national average so fingers crossed it's due to the people, as bad as that sounds.

Unless things change, I'll be seeing Mountaineer, Dmac, jjbodean, and mikemskatet this fall! Also looking for roommates and an apartment, PM me for more info.

I don't know too much about the drop outs just that I don't think it's as bad as it was made out to be before. Maybe ask Beth Ann?

As for roommates, lots of people have written on the Facebook group needing roommates so maybe look there.

Just joined the FB group, saw people wanting to switch and get a roommate rather quickly. Looks to be good!

Hi guys,

Planning to get down there last week of May or first week of June to start looking for a place to live. Any recommendations?

Thanks

I'm not sure there will be a ton to pick from in May/June (most places rent May to May here and may have been booked a month or two ago). I'll make a list of some places to look into.

Close to HSC:
-Georgetown
-Copperfield Court (also check other Metro Property Management complexes)
-Chestnut Hill Apts.
-Rachel's Rentals
-Chateau Royale

Short drive to HSC:
Copper Beech Townhomes
The Lofts
The District
West Run Apts.
...These are big apartment complexes and may have a lot of undergrads so beware 😛

Of course there's always smaller apartment complexes and houses you can rent. These are just some of the big name ones in town.

Congrats!!! You're keeping the hope alive for alot of us. At least it's good to know that there is somewhat of a waitlist movement.

Not any REALLY strong ties. I played travel softball in WV a lot and we had a lot of WV patients that I interacted with at my internship, but that's about it. And thanks!!

I'm pretty sure that qualifies as ZERO ties... just sayin'.

Good Morning,

I was checking the COA for last year and I see that WVU allocated about $5094.00 dollars per semester for rent, utilities, food, transportation, clothes. I also notice that most of the leases for housing are for 12 months. Even if I don't live there during the summer and lets say my lease is $500.00 a month, I still need to pay $1500.00 from the COA.This will leave about $1000.00 a month. If I coud get a room and utilities for about $550.00, that will leave me about $450.00 a month for everything else. I'm low maintenance but I think that this will leave little room for any unexpected expenses. Can I get any Loan for any extra money?

I also notice that they have a COA for summer. Does anyone knows how this work?

Thanks

You can't get loans above the COA. However, you can find lots of places with cheaper rent than that in Morgantown (unless you're living alone). That said, I've worried a bit about the COA as well. I'm not sure how the summer funding goes and would be interested in hearing as well.

I don't think you have to use the money you get for loans one what it says to use it on. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can pocket most of money listed for books as $2,500+ is ridiculous. Also, if you have insurance from your parents or a spouse, you can pocket that loan money as well. Like I said, I could be totally wrong about that though.

Thank you for your answer. I emailed a first year student from WVU, and he said that he spend around $550.00 in Books for this year. That will give us some room. If we can pocket the money from the insurance also, that will give me enough money for any extra expenses.

does anyone know if you pay the tuition for the year up front or is it split to be paid by semester?

I know in undergrad it was split and on the financial aid website it's split into fall, spring, and summer so I would assume it's split. Maybe email financial aid to be sure.

Withdrew from waitlist (OOS). Good luck, everyone!
